To clarify, WNYW wasn’t formally a Fox O&O in the traditional sense at the time, as the Fox network wouldn’t launch until October 1986; by March, Metromedia had completed the sale of most of its stations to News Corporation, which had also recently completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Only the Fox Television Stations unit had been formed by the time this video was recorded, while the network itself was still in development. The “Fox Television” brand pre-network launch was akin to the former Metromedia brand used by the predecessor group’s independents before the Fox/News Corp. purchase, little more than a unifying identifier for the O&Os-to-be.
