Great song and the question back then as now was what has happened to Country Music. Hey Folks, it's still country and you just have to listen. Chris Young is a strong voice in the Industry with his "Black Dress" song. Lee Brice and Luke Bryan are also have very impressive voices. But, then again what do I know. Bill Monroe, Bob Wills, Hank Williams and Ray Price put me to sleep in my cradle. Today I just listen and enjoy the great sounds of Country Music.

I still recall the mornin' that I met you, standing out in front of Wilsons Five and Dime; Staring thru the window at the jewelry, hungry for the things you couldn't buy. Just like a fool I thought that I could please you, I saw you had an eye for things that shine; I paid seven sawmill dollars for a bracelet, Just to satisfy your fourteen carat mind. Layin' by these railroad tracks in Denver, with a hurtin' head and a half a pint of wine; Everything except my soul has been surrendered, just to satisfy your fourteen carat mind. The cabin that I built in West Virginia, was not enough to keep you satisfied; 'cause a man that's got a sawmill occupation, can't afford to feed a rich girls appetite. I wonder if you're still with Willie Jackson, sometimes I wonder if he's still alive; Ole' Willie he gave up his wife and children, just to satisfy your fourteen carat mind. Layin' by these railroad tracks in Denver, with a hurtin' head and a half a pint of wine; Everything except my soul has been surrendered, just to satisfy your fourteen carat mind. Just to satisfy your fourteen carat mind.

LaVonne McCollam if county music has ever had a better voice. I haven't heard it people like this man paved the road for country music. people like him Gary stewart get lost why country music is a joke any more
One of my favorites by Gene Watson. Written by the great songwriter Dallas Fraizer.

I meant gene in 93 Wichita ks great guy great music.
Yep, had a couple of those in my life...........thankfully I saw the writing on the wall in time to move on before rings were exchanged. Great song.
he is just one of the best
...jewelry is unlucky to me....unless it's given with love....I lose it every friggin' time...
That's what i think when i see the fireworks and on stage antics of Today's performers. Yknow it's sad but true, Gene, Haggard , the Possum, and even the great Hank Williams wouldn't stand a chance today.Pop music is good word for it. Cause it sure as hell aint real country music.
Too many women like this....took me two go rounds to learn.......couldn't work hard enough or make enough money.... this song reminds me of the old bluegrass song "Big Spike Hammer" . Sierra Hull and the Boxcars sing a great live version of it together, posted on KZread....
Damn they don't write country songs like this no more. Spent 7 "Sawmill dollars" on a bracelet just to satisfy your 14 carat mind! LOL is she still with Willie Jackson. He gave up his wife and kids for a hot little gold digger. I wonder if ol' Willie still alive, LMAO probably not! Gene Watson's coming to Richmond VA tomorrow night tickets are only $20 a pop got mine can't wait to see the show!
Hard lessons ..make country songs.. im in...
Perfect
Just to satisfy your fourteen carat mind.

kaywat40. I knew a Willie Jackson in West Virginia. Yes,he is dead. But,not the same one in the song. LOL
i feel old i remember dime stores.
I once knew this woman.
Love the female backup singer on it.
With all of Gene's hits, this was his only #1 in Billboard.
When the makers of this "video"came to the fourteen carat part, they should have shown fourteen carrots.
I love the classic country and it’s so relaxing
A great singer and an equally great version. I tried it myself on a youtube cover.
my very song I had ever heard from Gene and fell in love with him after that....hubby didn't like it....oh well, got rid of hubby and kept Gene's albums

Sarita Odom were you the Gold Digger in the song? 😂😂
I have the Chartbuster Karaoke version of this song and I enjoy sing this song.
Moral of the story: if you're not making a six-figure income or better, a girl with a fourteen carot mind is out of your league! Imagine me, a correctional officer, trying to feed such a girl's appetite! Even though I work enough overtime to make more than some of my rank, STILL!
Gene's only #1 Billboard hit. ACC's #2 song of '82. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week!
