Four Ways to Sublimate onto Clear & White Acrylic | Sublimation & GlowForge Project

Hey guys!
Here are some keychains I made with my GlowForge & sublimated onto them. I’m working on getting these on my site soon.
The purpose for this video is to show how I sublimated onto clear and white acrylic. I made 4 different kinds of finishes, show the steps on how they were made & discuss their differences.
Types of keychains I made in the video:
1. Regular sublimation onto clear acrylic (no background)
2. White HTV (I heat pressed white heat transfer vinyl onto the back of the keychain to make the colors pop)
3. Tan/Beige HTV (I heat pressed tan heat transfer vinyl onto the back of the keychain to make the colors pop)
4. Regular sublimation onto white acrylic (no HTV or paint was necessary because the acrylic already is white)
Although I made a few mistakes along the way, the final product came out so cute!

Resin like to seek it's own level , that's why you get those dips in your resin as it dries. You can get Doming Resin and it will prevent that from happening.

I just bought my supplies to start this type of project after seeing your post on Instagram! I am so excited. What is the laminate sheet you talk about instead of doing the UV resin? Thanks for the inspiration! I am a teacher and can't wait to have my middle school students make some projects.

Hey there I love your videos. I did try to do a test with infusible ink on clear acrylic. The ink took but it looks like there was residual left from the masking? Did you have that experience.

Hey, thanks! Appreciate that. I have never used infusible ink so I really wouldn’t know. I used my converted sublimation printer (Epson Eco-tank). I heat press it at 400 degrees for 40-45 seconds. & When I peel the paper, I only have some paper that stays on the acrylic which easily comes off with warm water, some soap and a a tooth brush. Other than that, I wouldn’t know, friend. 🌸

Did you have any issues with the acrylic warping? If so, were you able to fix them?

if you find your acrylic warping, you can put it under something heavy as it cools , then run it under the water to remove the paper

Slightly. Especially the white acrylic. But I put something heavy and flat on it to avoid warping.

Warping is a problem as heat-pressed acrylic is very soft and bendy. I used to place the printed acrylic immediately between two sheets of tempered glass with a weight on top until they had cooled down. Be careful if you use anything other than glass as the surface of the acrylic will retain the texture of whatever you place on top of it.

Hmmm… I researched to make sure I was right on this answer. I found that as long as the acrylic is not ABS plastic (which can melt) can be heat pressed at high temperatures- and make sure the acrylic sheet is thick enough. 1/16 of an inch and higher.

Use 'cast' acrylic and not 'extruded' acrylic.
