Four Star Playhouse: A Place Full of Strangers (Dick Powell)
Фильм және анимация
“A Place Full of Strangers” aired on Four Star Playhouse 60 years ago, on December 8, 1955. It stars Dick Powell and Dina Merrill (making her TV acting debut), with support from Morris Ankrum, Frieda Inescort and Howard McNear. It’s an allegorical tale about the successful class of middle-aged men who’d weathered the Depression and World War II who now had to deal with the pressures of high-powered corporate life in 1950s America. Powell plays a harried businessman who flees his office one day and takes a bus to “the end of the line” where he finds a “Twilight Zone”-style limbo awaiting him. As such it definitely looks forward to such “Twilight Zone” episodes as “Walking Distance” and “A Stop at Willoughby,” although its ultimate message is a lot more reassuring than the bleak morals Rod Serling gave us.

There's a reason it is called the golden years of television.
These actors made tv great you can't get a cast like that today.
What a great thing four-star did with their productions. So glad to have discovered this show!
Great job Dick! We sure could use your talent these days.
I am really enjoying these old shows. Just brilliant
Dick Powell was born in Arkansas. He's definitely a guy who calls the shots. Multi-talented: singer, actor, director, producer.
What a sweet story. A little like Groundhog Day meets It’s a Wonderful Life meets A Christmas Carol.
Thank you and we enjoyed the play very much👍
Dina Merrill - absolute charm, total beauty.

I just discovered these impeccable gems. Thank you!
Anyone notice "Floyd" from Andy Griffith Show? "Pink Floyd" is a great tee-shirt! I love these shows and echo all compliments about Dick Powell, such a versatile guy!

I believe he appeared a few times on Dick's radio show, "RICHARD DIAMOND, PRIVATE DETECTIVE". Powell knew a GOOD character actor when he appeared with them.

They used to hawk it in the ads rear of "Rolling Stone", a 'HOT PINK' tee-shirt with Howard McNear's (you know, Floyd the Barber)picture on the front. I was an idiot and the ad bit the dust!
Simply brilliant.
Another mystery thriller Amazing how scripts Are made ones imagination Works overtime creating Unusual situations!
This was a great show; well produced drama. I vaguely remember this show as a boy. This episode has a touch of Twilight Zone-Kafka. Dick Powell really was in tune to drama....
An entertaining plot and well acted by the primary and supporting cast. Dick Powell does well in the varied characters he plays.

“Where is this place?” “Don’t you know? It’s the Twilight Zone.”
Loved it, thank you so much!
Oh, yeah, most def, Serlingish. My only complaint, I wish it were longer. But the best things in life are never long enough.
Thank you to you too ❤️
A very good movie
Thank you
This looks more like an episode of " One Step Beyond. "
a great story well acted.
Good old Howard McNear. The barber on the Andy Griffith Show.
Don't be so grim... that's a word you never hear anymore. Fleet is a forgotten name, too.
Dick Powell and Dina Merrill sitting at the bus station lunch counter. Behind them is a sign on the wall advertising Hot Cakes and Coffee, price: 35 cents. The 1950s world where a $1 bill had the value of a $20 bill in the 21st century.

Dick Powell wakes up in the 22nd century after being in suspended animation. He is informed by his assistant that his bank account had grown to $100 million. Dick: " whoopee! This calls for a celebration "!! After an expensive steak dinner..... Waiter: " Your check, sir. That'll be $500,000 ".
Willard Wiener also wrote the teleplay for Ida Lupino's directorial effort (from her story) for "SCREEN DIRECTORS PLAYHOUSE" a month later, "Number Five Checked Out" [with Teresa Wright, Peter Lorre and William Talman].
great production we saw in Spain in 60s Golden Age of T.V
This script could have been a Ron Sterling one.

One's future looks brighter the harder one works.
Shades of Groundhog Day.
Hot Cakes and Coffee for 35 CENTS!!!!!❤.....WOW
C.S. Lewis wrote a novel, "The Great Divorce" about a man traveling from Help to Heaven. I wonder if it was based on that. There really is nothing new under the sun.
That older woman is fine character actress, Lillian Bronson, Henry Fonda's mother in Spencer's Mountain.
Very ambitious plot, wonder what drugs the writer was using.
Thanks for posting , this one was a bit predictable , twilite zone ish.
This is better than any twilight zone show!
You see a recurring number in this series. 33.
Dina Merrill was the daughter of E.F. Hutton.
