During a school visit by local police my late mum, a teacher, asked a mounted policeman what he thought of a then recent tv programme where a weird woman, Barbara Woodhouse who claimed to be an animal trainer had pretended to break a wild pony by breathing up its nostrils. (It turned out to already have been broken) He commented that if she tried it with his horse she'd lose half her face. He said it had infuriated him. I personally knew a horse that would try to draw your fingers into its mouth if you gave it a treat like a carrot.

As the old sign at the zoo says: "This animal is extremely dangerous, if you attack it then it will defend itself". O. K. definitely not a direct comparison, but what on Earth did they expect if they touch the reins. . Years ago, someone with porridge for brains tried to grab a Guard's rifle. At least tried is the operative word. That did not end well for Oatmeal brain, who ended up looking down the sharp end (literally sharp).

Unfortunately, if people are tourists & don’t speak or read much or any English, then they won’t understand the sign, also non “horsey” people might not know what is meant by the reins & that they control the horse, & lastly, there are a lot of people who choose not to read signs, or who read signs, but ignore what they say, so whilst a sign is a good idea in theory, it probably would make little to no difference in reality

Still wouldn't do any good I think. Seems like most of them are brain dead. Who in their right minds goes up close to a massive horse and a guy (girl) in the saddle armed with a sword? Tourists bloody tourists.

Sandy Juergens, first, it's spelled "bridle." "Bridal" refers to things involving a woman who is getting married. Next, why would you say the old guy was probably an American? From what I could see, the mob consisted of Europeans, East Asians and Middle Easterners.

I love that they BARK at the idiots purposely to startle them off. In their heads, they're probably bored, having had to do this innumerable times, and if it had only happened once, and they weren't royal guards, they could just say in a mild tone, "C'mon man. Leave the damn reins alone. That's my horse, and that's my control of him." But they ARE royal guards and they have to IMMEDIATELY get through the thick skulls of the crowd and nip stupid behavior in the bud.

This can only be on purpose. It would suffice: 1. put up a notice: "Do not touch the horse's reins"; 2. Place a line signaling the path of the royal guards.

I feel sad for the poor horses! When stupid tourists grab the bridle / reins it causes movement to the bits which can be uncomfortable or even hurts, when the guard chooses to move the horse. Have they never been teached common sense? These guards and horses are on duty!

Notice whenever they shout the crowd finally gives them a bit of breathing space for a while after. They should encourage guards to do this more often. People get way too lax and comfortable crowding horse and guard for pictures.

She didn't realise what she was doing. It's just a natural thing to do, put your hand on an animal. Some may think they are being more polite than touching the horse. Hopefully the tourists can get the idea not to interfere with the riders reins, his communication with his mount
