2dr 5 speed is the holy grail. 99' is best year for the 97+ face lift and arguably overall. 00'-01' have head gasket/valvetrain issues on the 0331 heads. They are prone to crack in the middle when over heated. 84-86 had the 2.8l gm v6 and the 4 banger. mj's in 86 had the diesels in them. can't remember if the USD XJ's came with 4 cyl diesel i know euro did. 87-90 had the renix 4.0 and the ba-10 5 speed. 91'+ has the 4.0HO and for 5 speed is the better and more durable ax-15 which is high sought after on XJ's and even for zj's as well. as for 4wd full time tcase the full time is more or less awd but really its still 4wd. full time 4wd is for pavement as the tcase can slip in full time part time can not. part time is for offroad use only so you dont get driveline bind as the wheels can slip in the dirt. If you ride around on the street in part time its a fast way to blow up a tcase and or ujoints. not sure if that was mentioned or mentioned ass backwards in the video.

My mom had a 86 Laredo 2 doors and I had a 94 sport 2 doors. I don't think they were that scarce in the 80's & early 90's I remember seeing a lot of them where I lived (Northern Ontario and Quebec)

my dad has had these since i was born, 1 maroon manual and 1 silver auto. huge soft spot for these things

The automatic ain't bad, other than being an automatic, the aw4 is stronger than the manual counterpart

I got a 2dr with no rust. I mean none. I thought there would be at lease some in the quarters behind the rears, but nope. Clean. Sure, mine is rhino lined, but the pros to that, is it just wont dent (nor are you removing the one dent in the front fender, than all lifted XJs seem to get), but its on 35s (I think, maybe 38s. Its honking huge). Was my winter beater for a winter, and it handed some nasty hills, serpentine roads, highways. Sure, top speed sucks, but after I fixed all electricals (that was a nightmare, dash had to come out, remove all the bs wiring job for winch and lights...) I still have it, and I dont want to sell it. I get offers, but Its just got a look to it, that never was my thing but it grew on me big time. Lightbar, push bar, snorkel (that works if I had the bottom U joint, but I cant find it). Yeah, ebay special parts, and amazon crap, but it works. I was looking for a Ranger, 4cyl manual (the unkillables) but when I saw this, I said screw it. For 3k, was worth it. Lots of curse words later (my jacks barely can lift this thing LOL). Also, we got a rubber ducky thing going on in our area with Jeep guys. Apparently you cant buy them for yourself. Somebody has to GIVE one to you. So I need to buy a few of my own to give now. Jeep things....
