Found a Vintage 1972 Tyco Pro 8105 Slotcar set in the box. Will it work how was it packed?

In this video I unwrap the 1972/3 Tyco Pro slot car set similar to the one I recieved for Christmas as a little kid. See what I went through to get these cars running and find out a little history from the time period for these sets. Yes, I found it difficult to run both cars at the same time with a controller in each hand! LOL Original catalogs and literature help provide a glimps of what was available from Tyco as they competed against AFX int he slotcar world of the early 1970's!! Enjoy!!

This brought back some happy memories for me! The sound of your cars clicking over the tracks just throws me back to being a kid again. My set was from '75 or '76. The cars didn't have the buttons nor the flappers for pick-ups, but silvery rectangular pads that were each sprung. Worked pretty well. I had the 4 speed stick shift controllers, but they were not as fun nor as controllable as the standard squeezer ones. I wish I hadn't been a destructive kids, because I pretty much destroyed all my cars and tracks! Sigh.... it's true, youth is wasted on the young.... lol

Very cool. That is a great set. I am also a train collector but I am a major slot car collector. It’s great having these hobbies that bring your child hood memories back!! Keep it in the slot!!

Nice cars/set. I was cringing when you used the steel wool. I just was given a 1967 Model Motoring set from a relative and they used steel wool on the track. Going through the 6 cars they were loaded up with metal steel wool shards on the magnets/bodies. I tried one TJet 500 car before cleaning it up and it looked like it was in flames on the track it was sparking so badly.......I finally got the old track set up and it did not disappoint. I cleaned the entire track with WD-40 and it is not slick at all. The Viper guys suggest using the WD-40 and I was skeptical. But the track looks like new now and the cars run fine on it. The 3 level cardboard mountain is a riot, it's like Pikes Peek........

Good find! I'm not a fan of the old style track due to the tabs being so easy to break. I like those catalogs, I always wanted a road and rail set but AFX didn't have one at the time and they didn't make adapter track back then. So I had to build my own.

Great Show , Afx guy, But love the tyco pro. I rotate the wheels on those cars so they don't get flat spotted. Love the white rear tires, but very soft........Have around 1300 HO Slot cars. AFX/TYCO/AUTOWORLD,etc.....

I'm pretty sure your AFX would wipe the table of the TycoPro unless maybe we were on a drag strip or something lol. The only AFX I had was the funny Tank and I am looking for one of those currently!
