At the end of the day the overwhelming majority of the young boys that died were fighting a fight because the leaders of their respective countries told them to. They came from all walks of life and wanted the war to end and go home. Many of these boys never had a chance to love a woman, have children and experience life like many of us have had the fortune to do. Respect every one of them because individually it was not their fault and they gave their lives over it...

Guys coming home after all this long time. Finally lost comrades are on their way home again. And unfortunately there are still so many missing. I thank you for your great and honorable work.

Unfortunately, battlefield robbers run rampant in Russia. They’re not there for any honorable work. Their only objective is to retrieve as many artifacts as possible to sell for pure profit. Those dead soldiers aren’t going home.

One can see the last moments of these soldiers. As stated..the true horror of war. I have seen hand to hand myself (from my vehicle) and it’s bloody horrifying! Very good to see such respect for a fallen enemy. Best regards from UK and continue your sterling work

They’re actually just all about the money. Battlefield robbers are rampant in Russia. It’s doubtful those dead soldiers will make it home. These guys are just after the money. They dig up the artifacts and sell them for pure profit.

I am impressed by how well they cleared the artifacts and filmed a clear Archeologist level picture of how things were found. Looks very professional

This is clearly not at that level. These people are just relic / treasure hunters chasing a financial return. As soon as the found human remains they should have called the German Government War Graves and informed them.

I see the ID plaques were still complete so at wars end in Germany there would have been 3 families who would never know the fate of their sons. When any German soldier fell, his plaque was broken in half and one half remained with the body and the other was sent to a HQ to be reconciled against records. In this case,they fell far from their comrades and there was no one to collect their ID's to send home.

It looks like they have some "dog tags", as the American GI's called their identification plaques. Is any effort made to repatriate the remains, or at least contact the appropriate authority in Germany and forward the ID tags for possible identification ?

There is a problem with German WW2 ID disc's (as many of you may know). It is that they rely on records in the rear areas to identify the wearer. In many cases these records were destroyed, lost or mixed up during the war. As a result many German soldiers would actually scratch their names (and occasionally address) on to the tags. Another problem was that the cord attached to the tags would deteriorate over time and the tags could fall off. Many times when remains are dug up it is often impossible to determine which tag belongs to which set of remains. Especially when body's are found together. This may not seem like a truly terrible problem to overcome (DNA) however, I watched one video where there was a list of of soldiers temporarily buried at a site, near a field hospital, with their names. They ended up being temporarily buried for about 70 years. When dug up there were more remains than expected (some must have been buried at the site after the list had been made), and there were also both mixed and missing tags. And some soldiers still had both halves of their tags but they were so rusted they could not be read.

My Grandpa, is still missed. He was at the eastern front. My father never knew his father, he was born in 1943. Through you guys I have a little hope that maybe he will get a burial after all these years. Thank you.

I saw the number of German soldiers still missing from the war, and that number is astounding. No doubt most of them died in the east, and most of them will remain forever undiscovered.

The only reason they are doing this IN SECRET is because they want to protect the historical sites from actual grave robbers, right? FACEPALM

So fascinating finding a pre-1934 Reichswehr belt buckle. That soldier had probably enlisted in the army before the Nazis took power and remained there for possibly 6-7 years before meeting his end in that spot. Fascinating and really amazing work.

It’s make you very proud knowing your getting a fallen soldier his proper burial, even as a former enemy of the Russian people? I’ve to add hat the way you treat the fallen men or boys with the respect even putting all their personal belongings with them is something I don’t think many have picked up on. Please keep on finding those on all sides still missing today. Knowing this is al at your own expense I’ve seen somewhere in Russian news stories of your work. Even going as far as to pay for fallen Russian citizens burials is a state shame for all that they did. Giving their life to lye in a ditch field etc isn’t nice at all.😢🙏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

@@Montblanc1986 Not true. For instance my mother and her sister are both alive and the daughters of a WW II US Army Air Force serviceman, and he was older than typical GI’s of the period. There are plenty of children and grandchildren & great grandchildren of WW 2 vets.

@@Montblanc1986 even if that is the case, there is a massive chance that there are relatives of some sort that would be relieved to see these guys bought home, and at the end of the day it's important to show respect for and give any fallen soldier of any nationality the burial they deserve.

If the remains and ID tags could be repatriated to Germany, it might provide some closure to the families who remain.. In the heat of battle there is hatred but afterwards there is reflection and sorrow for all the misery people inflict on each other.. Pray for peace..

Wow! Great video. I would imagine that they will be able to correctly identify those three German soldiers who died in trench warfare and be able to notify members of their families and also find a proper burial place for them. It just goes to show, that one never knows what they might find when metal detecting!

After all, these German soldiers of World War II also have their own parents and brothers and sisters. I do not want to be insensitive but I cannot put aside the thoughts that these very German soldiers had murdered, brutally, Soviet fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters and little children. They reaped the carnage they had sowed in Russia. And all that is left, are dead remains. All are in judgement now, whether good or bad I cannot say.

@@Mikael5732 Most of these were just young conscripts, who had not really a choice. To call all German soldiers Nazis ist just an awful insult on their dead bodies. What would you do, if someone knocks on your door and orders you under the pain of death to fight in a war?

End of the day whatever nation these soldiers are they paid the ultimate price fighting for what they believed in. It’s truly humbling to think the mothers and fathers of these fallen soldiers never got the chance to bury their loved ones. War is a terrible thing but it’s human nature to destroy each other. May their souls find peace.

How long does it take to dig up a trench around a body, after it is discovered? As someone who never had done much digging after all and never remotely archaeological work, it is hard to imagine how it is done.

Wow what a find! I bet there is way more in that area to discover. Congratulations from way up high in the northern Colorado Rockies. I just bought my first metal detector and have to wait till it thaws out and n the spring. Had to sub!

Families can be informed that their long lost relative has been found many years after Hitler's folly sent them to their early death. They are gone, but not gone forever anymore.

They are usually repatriated through the German Embassy. Then later interred in a German Military Cemetery. ID'd if possible, and families notified, if any survived the war.

Sometimes the living relatives or descendants are embarrassed by the history of their forefathers and don’t want anything to do with their remains. Very sad.

I'm glad you guys document how these remains were in situ before removing anything as it gives a picture of what happened to them. I could imagine a terrified young man pulling on his gas mask because of a smokescreen and seeing Red Army soldiers come out-too many and too late to react. He was badly wounded by shrapnel and a Red Army soldier finished him off with his own bayonet. (Only speculation but perhaps one Red Army soldier acted out his own vengeance by smashing in the skull of the other-and it made his Mosin ramrod come out.) It's a chilling scenario, one that happened countless times in the human meatgrinder called the Eastern Front-a place of nightmares and terror.

I just did a quick Google search for WW2 MIA numbers on the eastern front. I knew the casualty counts were staggering, but the MIA counts 80 years after the fact are still shocking. Approximately 2 million German soldiers and 4 million Soviet soldiers have never been accounted for. By comparison, the U.S. military MIAs at war's end were something like 75,000, and official U.S. military recovery efforts continue to this day. Obviously, there has never been a comprehensive effort to recover these war dead, and most of them still lie in the wartime temporary graves in which they were tossed in combat situations. If I were a Russian, Ukrainian, etc., I would certainly want my WW2 soldiers recovered if possible, but I would be somewhat ambivalent about spending taxes to recover wartime German dead, but I suppose it is inevitable when you go looking for one, you find both.

This is very dangerous work, finding tank land mines, grenades, bullets, these men are at risk. You never know when one of these items found might go off.

We see what must be the last moments of life of these soldiers, it must have been terrifying, Were they fighting for hitler, i dont think so, they were fighting to stay alive and paid the price. I wonder how many more thousands are still in the ground ?

Pity that millions of young guys have lost their lifes on both sides, serving monstrous regimes. But these boys were engaged to serve as.ordinary soldiers. Do you think that Russian guys who died in Germany, had more right to kill than German soldiers in Russia. Why would ? Do not tell me that revenge is justified and murdering in that case is not a crime.

Seems he may have been a career soldier or previously served in WWI called back into service and sent to the Eastern Front and re used that buckle.
