There's something about the way you tell your story and provide all the information you want conveyed that's just fascinating, beyond even most other KZreadrs. It helps especially that what you're currently conveying is a subject in dire need of more attention. Keep up the good work, Greg.

It's funny how many similar experiences we've had. My wife and I first placement lasted 1 day. The case worker used us to babysit while the girls grandmother got her approvals. But didn't tell us any of this when we picked the girl up. We also had a case worker go nuts because we had "missed" some development check, which consisted of some really basic questions like, "is the child having seizures?" and watching the child play for a couple of minutes, when we had been getting the child regularly checked by a physician. This was like our 3rd year and 5th kid and no one had ever mentioned this check before.

I for one am shocked, shocked, that there is a noticeable disconnect in government between the shot callers and the frontline workers. Well maybe not that shocked...

Re: stopping to comment during the dentist story What's sad about this story is that you know that even some of the 2 year olds in foster care probably are having problems with their teeth due to neglect and abuse. The foster worker flipped because she was unfamiliar with your case and didn't have the information to know your kid wasn't subject to those stressors. That she didn't have the time to prep on the nuances of your placement simply proves your point about how over burdened they are.

My wife and I are open to adopting but early in our marriage, I told her that we shouldn’t foster for one reason. She has a very tender heart and I’m not positive she can emotionally handle the stories of some of these kids. I’ve been told I may have blown this out of proportion in my head so if you could speak to that, I’d appreciate it.

Part of my apprehension comes from there were to families in my church who were funded by Truett Cathy to be foster parents. He literally paid all of their bills and paid for them to take care of these kids. One of the girls they had for over ten years didn’t wear sandals because of the scars from where her parents put out their cigarettes on her. That’s the kind of thing I don’t want to subject my wife to.

Happy story about that Truett Cathy group, the first kid ever brought in to it wound up staying through adulthood. Got married to a good man, lived a well adjusted life, and was actually hired to lead a foster home of her own.

​@@thecornerkid402my wife (her account) is similarly compassionate. The pain she will feel if everything goes right and the child returns to their parent, is the main concern we have, but it is precisely why she would be a great foster parent.

You should talkA Series of Unfortunate Events, the ultimate foster horror story. The books are great, but they're practically impossible to adapt to the screen, which is why the movie and the Netflix series have such different tones.

Silly is an understatement. I keep thinking of when the Turpin kids were rescued from their abusive parents to be moved under the care of foster parents... whom then turned out to also be abusive to them...

I know they exist, but I still can't wrap my mind around abusive foster parents. It wasn't a herculean task to get my license, but it did take some effort. If these people don't like kids, why are they volunteering?! I don't get it!

There is no exam to determine how people react under a lot of stress while dealing with people who are disrespecting them. Lots of kids in foster care have lots of trama that the only way they know how to deal with is to lash out and the foster parents are usually the main target. People react in different ways in that situation, from understanding that, though they just destroyed everything in the room and cursed you out when you just told them that it is bed time, they are just dealing with pain to those who see all the damage, all the hard work, all the money that just went down the drain, and end up not being able to control their body. Until you are in that situation, it is hard to say how you would react. Heck, when my adopted kids would lash out like that, I purposefully held my hands behind my back as an extra precaution. The only time I laid hands on them was to grab them and prevent them from hurting others (never hitting them). Hope that made sense.

​@@gregowen2022 Money. $550 per month with a maximum of 6 kids comes out to $3,300 per month. If you're neglecting and abusing kids then most of that will go in your pocket. It might not sound like a lot to you since you're actually trying to take good care of the kids and kids are expensive. But to people making garbage money who don't have kids and don't care about the well-being of their fosters it's a significant amount.

Unfortunately I can't foster but this is very interesting.

Every government system is broken. It's not just foster care.

I'd love to but I live in an apartment with a spare room but I'm a bit of an ADHD hoarder of clutter of craft supply and say extra blankets and stuff and collector stuff and boxes that theyd probably say my place is dirty. It's clean just clutter in every corner.

I had a nephew taken into foster care a few years ago. We tried to adopt him once it was clear reunification wasn't happening. Our experience with social workers was so bad that I am unwilling to have them anywhere near my house while my children are at an age where they could be taken away. I don't trust social workers. I assume that anything they're saying is a lie. Perhaps I'll try once my kids are grown but there's no chance now.

Not surprised. Social workers didn't care a lick while we were being abused in the home. Then divorce and the one not abusing us had to walk a super thin tight rope and almost lost us a few times because we had developmental issues ... From the exes prior abuse in case they missed it. I will never let a social worker in my home.

Gotta appriciate when people keep Al Gore Rythm happy.

My wife and I were discriminated due to us being Christians, and kept on asking us if our foster kid came out gay would we that them still. I personally don't care or mind if they were gay, but my wife is always on the fence of that tho. And it red flagged us. >:(

I'm not sure what my question would be but I have concerns about fostering and the integration with biological kids already in the home. Also,Iwas ignoring these at first because I knew you would get me thinking about it again and here we are...😢

Hey Greg! Coming back to this video to knoe if youre still continuing the Foster Care series! I believe you said youd do one a week for May (not sure if its true or not, could be misremembering). Im definitely waiting for the next one since I enjoy listening to your perspective on this (along with the rest of your media reviews)! I even sent the first vid to a Sunday School student of mine who said she was interested in foseting children when she's older.

I'm going to ask the rep at the Q&A tomorrow, but I'm currently looking at CharityNavigator dot org, which claims they are, on average, spending about 79% on the program itself, 5% on fundraising, and 16% on administration.

I've been thinking about fostering as my two kids (9 & 10) want more siblings and so do I but can't. How do you feel about foster teens
