Forza Horizon 5 is an absolute spectacle. That’s easy to see. But there are some things the game doesn’t tell you early on, that I absolutely wished I knew early on. Like, how can you upgrade the fast travel option, how exactly do the game’s three progression systems work? These are just a couple of the questions I hope to answer in this video. But don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a video of advanced tips on how to win the game’s toughest races. It’s more of a beginners guide for people just starting out, or feeling overwhelmed by everything this awesome game has to offer. And with that out of the way, here are the best tips and things I wish I knew before starting Forza Horizon 5.
Progression
One of the more confusing parts of Forza Horizon 5 for me early on was how you earn progression. There are actually three progression tracks. One for how you earn skill points to upgrade vehicles. One for how you earn experience points to earn new cars and in-game currency. And one for how you unlock story missions. Let’s start with how you unlock story missions. This is done by earning Accolade Points which are rewarded by completing any of the tasks posted in the game’s accolades menu. By the way, if you press the A button to select any accolade that requires you to complete a specific race or event, you’ll pin it’s location, which will create a driving line leading you directly to where you can earn that accolade. Anyhow, each accolade rewards you with a certain number of points, which are then tallied in the top right of the pause menu. When you have points enough to unlock a new story mission, you can then go to the game’s Horizon Adventure menu to decide which story mission to experience next.
Next, let’s look at Experience Points. These are earned by doing just about anything in the game, from smashing XP boards to discovering new areas to completing events. You’ll get on-screen notifications when you earn experience and when you eventually level up, you’ll earn a wheel spin. These are basically loot boxes, but not to worry, the rewards are usually worthwhile, typically a new car or a significant amount of in-game currency. BTW, if you’re wondering what level you are, it’s displayed at the top left of the pause menu next to your username. Ok, what about the third progression track? Well as you drive around, you’ll rack up what’s called your skill score. More on this later, but for now, just know that you’re rewarded a score for driving around basically like a maniac. When you finally fill up this yellow tire meter, you’re rewarded with a skill point, which you can then spend to unlock perks and upgrades to any one of your cars. So that’s how progression works in Forza. I wish the game did a better job of explaining these three tracks, but if you’re new to Forza and you’re as confused as I was, at least at first, I hope this helped.
Unlock The Ability to Fast Travel Anywhere
Another thing I feel Forza Horizon 5 does a lousy job of explaining is the fast travel system. Before I explain how to unlock the ability to fast travel to any location on the map, let me first explain how to fast travel at the start of the game. Early on, you can only fast travel to any of the game’s seven houses you’ve purchased, or any Festival Outpost you’ve unlocked by progressing through the campaign. But what I missed and took an embarrassingly long time to discover, was the subtle prompt at the bottom of the screen to press the x button to fast travel. Yeah, I’m sure this was obvious to a lot of you, but I just didn’t see it and I can’t imagine I’m the only one. Anyways, this will cost you some in-game credits, but if you smash through fast travel signs, that cost will continue to drop. Ok, now for what you’ve been waiting for. How do you unlock the ability to fast travel to any road on the map? Well, the house appeared on my map after I finished the Guanajuato Expedition, which is the first story mission in the Street Scene festival.

Top Tip: If you buy all of the clothing options in “Customise Your Character” then they won’t appear in your Wheelspins/Super Wheelspins. This way you limit what clothes do appear to the ones locked which are far, far, less ones to turn up on Wherlspins thus increasing the chances of spinning up cars and cash.

Some more tips for learning how to drift: firstly turn off traction control in the assists menu, if your goal is to lose traction, turning this off goes a long long way. Another tip is to download a drift tune for a car that someone has made, these have had heavy changes to the suspension, gears, tires and differential to make it so much easier to drift with. Finally, any car can become a drift car with the right tune, but I still recommend starting with jdm cars, they a fan favourites for a reason and will all become amazing, well balanced drift cars.

For drift zones what worked for me: Formula drift car, no assists, simulation, manual shifting. Keep it in third, get up the speed, start sliding and moderate the power with trigger. (don't do the keyboard, seriously). I set 3 stars on all on first try, was bit disappointed, at least in FH4 there were few challenging zones... When you get into it, make your own tune to suit your style. Camber and toe adjustments makes wonders, also shift breaking power to back and take the braking power down to help you out of hairy situations. Lock the diff. I made S1 old Merc SL and A800 1st gen Fairlady, both goes sideways like a charm, down the volcano 1mil score without an effort, even able to get some okay placement in open drift.

For the drifting portion of this video it helps to mention some difficulty settings that will help a ton to drift, but will take some getting used to. Switch traction control and stability control to OFF, it will help get into and maintain a drift. If you also switch your shifting to manual instead of automatic that will be a big help, the higher the revs the easier it is to drift. The last thing is drift suspension and drift tire with high hp, it will help a ton even if you don't tweak the advanced tune settings. Hope these tips help!

Pro Tip for drifting: go to settings, select difficulty, then turn off traction control and stability control. It's VERY difficult if you don't and super easy when you disable those settings. Lots of people also say to disable automatic shifting but with traction and stability disabled I haven't found disabling automatic shifting necessary. A LOT of people miss this simple fix for drifting.

You just select a fast car, find a near hill, and then if you missed the XP board, you just use the Rewind option (Y button on xbox controller) until you tune the exact speed/turn to hit the board ;) 2) For barn finds, the easiest way is to drive until the finding area, and then enter Drone mode, it's way easier to find it, especially when there are a lot of trees!

@@poppachoppa8956 cars have a differential which is a mechanism to distribute the power of the engine accordingly so that you can take turns easier for example. This means that when making a sharp turn your inside wheel will spin slower than the outside wheel. But what drifters want is no traction so they usually weld their differentials in order to make the rear tires spin the same speed and have better control of the drift. This is "locking the diff".

    @JAfonsoNunesMartins10

    2 жыл бұрын

@@poppachoppa8956 All the cars have differentials, being AWD or not. AWD is different that a diff because it server other purposes, I'll explain below the differences. All Wheel Drive (AWD) only means that all the wheels are "connected" to the engine so when you press the throttle, power will be delivered to all of them. Rally cars and Offroad Veichles are the ones that benefit from it the most as they drive throught dirt and rocks and if they get a puncture or they get one wheel stuck, the other 3 will keep spinning and that gives better control of the veichle in rough conditions. Some high performance track cars also use it though, as in some cases it's faster on the track. In city it is also usefull in the rain or snow as it gives more traction. Examples: Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, Ford Focus RS, almost all the Land Rovers, Jeep, etc. There's also Front Wheel Drive (FWD) which are usually the city cars and cheap SUVs like the Honda Civic or Toyota Prius. These cars arent fast so they don't need the advantage of AWD or RWD although some family cars are starting to implement AWD. The FWD system basically only makes your front wheels spin, this makes the maintenance easier and cheap but obviously isn't very fun to drive and on the racetrack has lot's of understeer but is safer. FInally the amazing Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) which is my favourite as this system can be both fun and fast in the track. These cars only spin the rear wheels when the throttle is pressed so they are great drift cars. Some of the most known RWD cars are the Toyota Supra, a lot of Ferraris, cheap sports cars like the Miata and BRZ, etc. Obviously this system is more dangerous to drive and this is why there's not many city cars with RWD, the rear can slide more and if you don't know how to correct it it might be dangerous. I hope I explained well, if you have more car related questions I'm happy to explain!

I agree that turning off Traction Control and Stability Control will make you better at racing and faster in general, however turning ABS off really isn't required. ABS is a good assist even in highly skilled difficulty. I would recommend instead trying to invest time into getting more used to manual shifting over automatic since it improves your control over the car, helps accelerate, and can be used to improve drifting (although that won't help in a race).

Very good tips for beginners, and some for seasoned players as well. I'm a veteran of the Horizon franchise ever since 1, but there were still a few things I didn't quite know about until later in my play of FH5. For drifting, what I found to be the perfect fit is the 2003 Fairlady Z, fully modded, with drift tires, drift suspension, and drift differential. I didn't really mod the tuning too much, but using that car with no traction control, no stability control, and manual shifting locked into 4th gear, I was able to 3-star every drift zone relatively easily. You just have to learn throttle control and you'll nail it. And this is coming from someone who was a total noob at drifting up until a few months ago. XD

Also, I have a steering wheel and I tried to drift with it, but it never really worked out. Then I tried with a controller and it was soooo much easier. You have to correct constantly and with the steering wheel that would mean rotate the wheel all the way left and right, which is possible, but very hard. With the controller you can do it instantly.

i struggle with drifting as well. spent half an hour today practicing it though.. a good mix of thrust, shifting the gear down, and sometimes breaking is what i found to be most comfortable but timings and turning/drifting from certain speeds are still very complex to me. a video tutorial on this for non-car enthusiast would be awesome lol

The best advice I could give you is: 1. Get a car that has a lot of modding potential (some cars may not have as many options yet since the game is brand new) 2. Click search for a tune in the find a tune menu of the modification center and sort by the class you want and drift 3. GET A MOD WITH AWD (this is will make it much more fun and easy, I only use AWD drift tunes) 4. BE SURE TO TURN OF TRACTION AND STABILITY CONTROL 5. HAVE FUN! (You will more than likely have to try different tunes, very rarely will you find the perfect tune first try) I hope this helps! Just ask if you need anymore tips!

This was incredibly helpful and very well conveyed, many thanks for your effort and the video! FH5 is my first game of the series and while I'm loving it so far, it really is overwhelming. By the way, drifting is supposed to be easier when switching off some of the assistances in settings. I don't remember their exact names but traction control was one of them, I believe. I have to give this a go myself but it sounds logical that any assistance might dampen the drift effect by accident.

I love drifting! Once you get the hang of all assists turned off and manual with clutch, drifting is my favorite thing in Forza. I spent hours trying to get 600k in Needle Climb in fh4 and it was so awesome when I finally did it and I got it on video too. The hardest part for me to get used to was simulation steering. I've been driving manual cars in real life for decades so that was easy and I was just happy that was an option so I've been using manual with clutch for a while, but changing to sim steering was like starting over again. It was so frustrating. I can try to give you some pointers if you want. Pretty much any formula drift car with a KenBlocksSohn tune should be good and pretty easy to use for drifting. I think my favorite is the #34 mk 4 FD Supra so far. Also be prepared for people to argue that it's not really drifting if you have all wheel drive 🙄

For drifting one thing that may help a ton is to turn off your traction control and stability control as it will let the tires spin more and the the car won't correct as much. This is huge a huge adjustment and I love drifting in Forza once I figured that out.

I’m a Forza veteran and all these things are like second nature to me. But I find it absolutely fascinating to see how someone new to the franchise has to figure all this stuff out by themselves like you mentioned. I think that’s something use veterans don’t even think about. And honestly, you make some really valid points, I think the developers (Playground Games) could have done better in welcoming completely new-to-franchise players with some tutorials explaining all those trivial things like player level, XP, skill points and such. Even for us veterans some sort of tutorial about the special skills would come in handy. For example for future Forzathon events (that’s one tile of the festival playlist) you might need to do skills like wrecking ball, daredevil, hard charger etc. Some of them I know by heart, others I also have to Google on how exactly they trigger. This should have been an in-game info page in at least FH4 already (that’s the first game these festival playlists were introduced).
