When I'm trying to explain to people why digital instruments and autotune are the death of music. When his strings buzz or you hear his finger sliding on a string it's technically "noise" and not "notes" but it still conveys information and emotion.

@@untartelette7545 No, there are not. This is all one guitar. He's using an open tuning. Watch his right hand's fingers, you can see when he plucks the higher strings for some of the notes the vocal melodies use. This is also why he's able to barre certain chords. The technique (on this particular song) is not that hard, what's hard is working out what needs to be played, then practicing it enough to be able to play it fast enough to hit all the right notes while still maintaining the feel. That's the hard part. (Source: I used to be able to play stuff like this. Haven't had time to pick up the axe in a long time.)

@@untartelette7545 No, you are mistaken. The main riff only requires the first and second strings. (Do you know how to play the song?) All the notes he's fretting on the 3rd and 4th strings are vocal melody notes, along with open notes on the other strings. Those are your left hand notes.

I just finished reading over messages I shared with a dear friend who died last year. Her favourite song was 46 & 2, and we played it at her funeral. Her birthday is in a few days. Thanks for sharing this. She would of loved it and insisted I teach it to her. I think it will reach her in the next life.

I'm an absolute disaster playing the guitar but I've seen and listened to a great deal of fine guitarists. And I've got to say: I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. I just don't get my head around the fact that Ernesto can play the chorus of the song while also incorporate basslines, the guitar and some of the percussion all in one take. Apart from how breathtakingly difficult it is to play that way to sheer perfection: it is beautiful. And that commands even more respect imho.
