@@stephaniemarie5016 No... we didn't have a living room area or kitchen sink with microwave and fridge-- what luxurious accomodations! 😲-- WOW!!!!! Definitely something more serious than we ever had!!!!!

I was shocked seeing this. When i was in, you had two or more men a room. And they had holes in the ceiling with asbestos hanging out. It was a mess really.
For many other barracks in Fort Polk, the living room area she is showing is a bed room for the roommate sharing the room. They place a bed there so the roommate can sleep in there.

That must suck. Having your bedroom in the kitchen lol
That's a lot better than it was in the late 80's when I was there

WOW, l was there from May of 1986 to sept. of 1988, and the barracks didn't look like that, unbelievable. Cold steel
So this is what Hell looks like according to Zach...

they got alot of funding around about 10 years ago. this looks like one of the newer buildings.
A far cry from the WW2 barracks of the Summer of 1972 (A-2-2)
Actually I preferred the old WW II wooden barracks for our troops at Ft. Polk. After moving into the new barracks there was more problems. The SNCOQ was still WWII wooden buildings and the BOQ was new. North Fort was still all white painted wood back then. Dragon 8.
I've had to call Fort Polk home the past couple years, and I don't miss it. The barracks were alright, but they really did come with a lot of frustration. For one, the windows don't open, so if the power goes out, you can't open them to let air in, and it gets real hot in that sweaty little butt-crack of an installation during hurricane season (sleep on the floor on your mat, it's cooler). The breakers also suck, if you're running a powerhouse of a PC, you'd better get an UPS so you at least have time to save whatever it is you're doing before losing power, or you'll probably try and do what this one guy did by trying to fruitlessly bolt the breaker switch in the upright position and winding up with either a statement of charges or a trip to the ER. I have also had to endure multiple mornings without hot water after morning PT, I've gotten used to taking a cold shower every now and then. Oh, yeah, and sometimes, the water will come out looking like Coca-Cola (just run the water a while to clear it up). The barracks building I was in does not have cameras in the stairwells or halls (and occupants just love leaving the front doors open), so we'd often have to deal with some stupid, worthless pieces of human garbage going in either pulling our fire alarms or discharging our fire extinguishers, leaving a huge mess that is also VERY hard to clean up entirely, all often around midnight and sometimes multiple times in one night.
A lot different than when I was stationed there from 1965 to 67. We only had to complain about no hot water in our showers. World War II barracks with who knows what was used in building them. New barracks are better that my first home.
Going there in Feb. Looks better than what I dealt with in college. I was reading the articles from 2010 about the mold issues and that the barracks are all by now 50 years old and at the end of the lifespan. Not much different than the college dorms though, just with kitchenettes this time. You get the luck of the draw on getting south facing windows for plants though.

Those barracks look nice! At Fort Lewis I was living in 1950s Barricks filled with asbestos. This is back in the late 2000s.
I was there the summer of 1970 for basic and AIT! A different look then for sure.
Yes! House tour
Damn thats actually really nice, thank you for your service, even though im Hungarian.
Nice video. And now...House tour!
do we know what the infantry unit barracks look like? I'm going at the end of march and I see absolutely nothing about it. Im jr enlisted too
Hello YT friend. Big thumbs up for this video. Enjoyed watching👍💪🤩
I miss fort Polk. I lived there from 2004 to 2021
Thank you for this 🙏🏽
What's your MOS and unit?
Also, they were 2 stories high and 30 of slept in each floor. One bathroom for all of us. Now a days they are spoiled.
Love the video
In my opinion fort polk has the best single soldier barracks. Ive also been in NY drum and Korea humphreys. I don't think any other has a living room which makes it friggin awesome.

Looks like the Waldorf compared to what we had there in 97-2000. It was the same room but no wall that separated the living room from the bedroom. The closets were not separated so we put our wall lockers where the wall is to split the room in half. No stove or sink, just a mini fridge with the microwave on top of it. No counter either. And the outside looked nowhere near as nice!!!!

Are you still stationed there?

Those are not baracks those are apartments. I had basic training 1973, at fort Polk. And they were nothing like these. Ours were made out of wood.
Wow, surely nicer than early 1970 at Tigerland! D-1-5

Roomy. I am surprised.
Hi
I think that’s a NCO room
@stephaniemarie5016

This is actually not an NCO room. This is what all the soldiers are offered. Because of remodeling the barracks there’s been a shortage for rooms and most NCOs are actually being put in housing with a roommate.
