eh calm down. Try starting a race engine with no provisions for cold start fast idle control and 320 degree duration cams and not blip it and keep it from loading up.

went drifting in japan with a guy in an 86, fully forged, running carbs, full race spec, sounded and pulled like shit till 4k rpm, sounded like it was missing and jumping, then 4k hit and she took off like a bat outta hell

Some extra clearence piston n ring gap to cope high rpm..

Toyota 4-AG engines are gems, especially those built to Formula Atlantic specification., whether 1.6 or 1.8 litre.

That’s from the cam overlap. The power band is shifted upwards for high rpm.

I could see my 5E-FE looking like this but finding parts for a Paseo has been.......troublesome lol. Not well connected enough to get parts made. How did you tune the ECM? I've been told to take it to get tuned somewhere since i can't just plug a computer in, but I want to get into rebuilding older small JDM cars myself. And I'd probably have to ship it out considering my location. Love this motor bro, it looks like it rips lol

Lightweight flywheel probably as well my 4a sounded like this more after i changed my flywheel it had a more ringing sound

That's typical old 4AG, they now have improved tensioners.

Kind of sounds like a misfire in cylinder 3. Is it the cam profile that makes it do that?

Normal for a 4AG, looks scary and probably causes inaccurate timing. Now days we ad an additional tensioner.

Genuinely curious, is the formula atlantic a replacement block and/head or is it internals on the original? Also, this sounds like its rearin to go!!

Motor is still frozen I guess, sounds like it is miss firing But once warm it will scream and run smoothly The cam belt does seem like it’s got too much play

Seems like the timing needs to be advanced. The throttle response seems a little off. Im no expert in these engines im just giving my opinion based off what i see and hear. It shouldn't take that long to start it up.
