    fun fact. in 1999 the teams gave the drivers an audio signal when to start, since the procedure was always the same timing. FIA changed it without telling the teams and therefore all cars that jump started went on the very same time.

    I think I know the video you're quoting this from, and there wasn't any proof given in that video, especially given the start was actually aborted because Gene and Zanardi were lined up wrong This would probably have been the start that made it obvious what was going on, instead of the trap that was claimed

    The only clip that shouldn't really be classed as a jump start is the first clip. On the full video, the orange lights came on signalling an aborted start. Back then if the race start is aborted it goes to a full restart procedure, like the start never happened. Where as today they go round for another formation lap. F1 drivers do react to change of lights, so soon as they saw orange lights come on they bolted as they was ready to let go of the clutch and hurdle to turn one. But i am very surprised that the clip of Massa, who was clearly over his grid box, did not get a penalty. Well not to my knowledge anyway

    actually the reason the drivers in the first clip jumped the start was because the race directors changed the start sequence because teams had been using radio frequencies emitted when the start procedure begins to cause a beeping sound in the driver's ears 100 ms before the lights went out so they could get a perfect start. Driver61 uploaded a video on it recently

    Depends on how far you go. Grid boxes have highly classified (unknown) tolerances that allow the cars to nove a little (or else many people get very unfair penalties due to the car moving slightly on the grid) so as long as you dont go over these sensors before the lights go out you wont get any penalty

  • @Aunini

    @Aunini

    3 жыл бұрын

    Essentially the rules say you need to be stationary and in the box when the lights go out, so if you stop quick enough to stay in the box, the sensors *should* let you get away with it
