Man the F1 on TV never sounds as pure as this, they must adjust the sound levels so people with built in TV speakers don't break or something ? Thanks Italian/Boz excellent coverage !

They do sound a lot better 'in the metal' than they come across on TV, but I would still prefer a V10 wail being an old timer, can't stand in the way of progress though, so I understand.

The V10s without any hybridization were just a hair slower than the turbo hybrid V6s today. Technology has progressed since 2005, so with hybridization coupled with a V10 we could potentially be looking at around 1300 hp, probably around 1100 hp without hybridization, considering in 2005 Williams made 950 hp with their BMW V10

why, V8, 10 or 12 is old technology, plus weight is killer, car wouldn't handle near as well with todays cars aero package, technology is going forwards not backwards

The current engines of today are much much heavier than the V10s were. The hybrid systems are at least 100 pounds and a turbo setup is also heavy. Just because the 1.6L is a smaller displacement doesn't mean it is lighter. Te engines have also more than doubled I cost over the V8s before hybridization

the cg of the engine is much lower in these cars. Instead of weight I should use rotating mass of v10 was way more. Cars today are way more balanced. Look how easy they make handling the car is today. Don't get me wrong I loved v10 and v12 engines in F1 but the past is the past. F1 is about technology that sooner or later should get to production cars. Of course many years down the road.

sounds pretty good actually. not even close to the scream of angels the v10s produced, but still quite good. that drift at the beginning tho 👍

In some ways the V6s sound better; the downshifts and the throaty growls are awesome. Although seeing a V10 car in person is something everyone needs to experience once... the air vibrates and you can feel the engine note in your chest when they scream by.

What people should understand is that those V12s, V10s and V8s sounded better and louder mainly not because of the number of cyclinders but because they were NATURALLY ASPIRATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!

WeneedHQvideos so them old turbo f1 cars they didn't sound anything special either did they? or audi sport Quattro? volvo t5 touring cars? several porsches? turbo cars can sound incredible. the group b audi quattros sound better than any other car ever. the lancia delta s4 isn't far behind. these are the best sounding f1 cars for more than 2 decades. at last they are sounding like serious, angry cars growling and howling not an engine screaming in pain not anger

Hi SE7en.. Are you sane??? Those F1 cars sounds like Volvocars fitted with turbos to quited them down!! If you think this is a good sound from ANY car and specifficaly from an F1, you know nothing!! This will kill F1!! In 5 other years F1 will be nothing more as noone want to se that anymore!! Regards Jan

Why imagine these cars with V10 engines? Yes, the V10s sounded better. But that's it. These engines are masterpieces of performance comparing to V10s. All I am saying is that I will always prefer performance over sound, that is why I watch F1, it is a competitive race.

The Merc PU on downshift and mid-corner actually sounds really good!

It's not that these engines sound bad, problem is that they were developped to reach 15k RPM but since stupid FIA brought the fuel flow limit, they rev only about 12k RPM even though it sounds better this year. Doesn't change the fact that these engines are faster than V10.

Yes, I don't understand why the 100 Kilo per hour fuel flow rate...Why not just start everyone with 100Kilos of fuel and either you make it to the end of the race, or run out before the finish because you didn't manage it properly! It would add another interesting aspect to the races, let the engines rev higher and sound better, and would still have the manufacturers working with fuel efficiency. I think they would sound much better revving to 15k, when now it always sounds like they're short shifting.

The sound of this cars looks like airplane's turbine..... I liked very much.

It is not spine tingeling as the engines of the past but they are quick and they do look better with the wider tires. Thx Bozzy excellent footage as always. From a technical point, less noise is more efficient, however the heart wants a car that sounds like it goes. we'll see. Lets hope the races will be exciting.

Probably worse as they did before 2016 (when one exhaust pipe became mandatory as a way to increase the sound). The old turbo cars didn't have exhaust heat ERS systems which kills the sound.

The old cars had 2 turbo's instead of 1, that is also a major difference in sound. But I hope Ross Brawn can come up with a loud n/a engine in the future as we all do.

Interested in the arrays that the teams are flying. McLaren has a circa 1940's style radar array in front of the inlets to powerplant. I am guessing to measure airflows, Bueller? Also, I see the Ferrari and Mercedes with a small wing like array attached to the rear fin or on the Mercedes its mounted with a post behind the engine in front of the rear wing. What are these as well I am sure to measure something but anyone got any ideas.

question: the shark fin. I guess the teams know exactly what they're doing but how can they be good for the car with a heavy side wind?

Thank you so much! In terms of sounds they're a bit louder than last year (especially Ferrari powerplant), otside look is 200% better, I really like the fins but I hate those little wings. For what I saw Mercedes still looks the car to beat, Ferrari seems good too but we'll see later this month. All the others 8 cars seem to me they're all at the same level but I'm quite sure they didn't show their real power. Quite surprised by the Haas

The Renault cars have a strange noise off the last chicane. Almost sounds like and air compressor or when a fire extinguisher goes off

They're aero sensors, they measure the flow of air across the bodywork, they are often used in Free Practice sessions before Grands Prix as well

80% of comments on any 2017 f1 video are people stuck in the past complaining about old engines sounding better. GO REWATCH THE OLD SEASONS THEN!!! They are NEVER coming back. Get over it.

They sound pretty good. But they still lack that punch that a lot of good race cars give. I think the twin turbo Indycar V6s sound a bit better, but that just might be the American in me.

Tommy Cruz That was 2005, but tires had to last a race distance in 2005, so they were harder. The 2010 cars were the previous best handling, while the 2004 cars were the previous best all round

I think F1 is "trying" to improve the sounds of the V6 engines over the years. First they sounded like vacuum cleaners, then to lawnmowers, and now to this. I think it sounds pretty good to be honest. But nothing can compare to what those screaming V10s and V12s of the past were like. Nothing comes close at all. I miss those days!

F1 Fans. Please dont get weak and accept these engine sounds. Stay strong, protest and remember what we could have !

Appreciable. I do like them. Ferrari powerplant is a lot louder than last year but Force India and Williams are the loudest. In that place on the main straight at 1:36 you could really feel the sound. Nothing compare to the old engines but it's a big improvement

Sounds a lot better than the last years, especially new the new Mercedes and Ferrari engine. Also the cars look very fast arround the corners now, impressive downforce on these cars. The only thing I don't like are the shark fins, there are some cars like the Renault where it really looks good but those "walls" on the Williams, McLaren and Force India really look ugly to me. I really hope they will ban them soon, but as I know rule makers in F1 they ban them not before the 2018 season.

Sounds so good. Keep crying about the V10.

Still think that the Sauber is the best looking car, neat car and nice livery there's nothing not to like about it for me. The only car that I really don't like is the Force India.
