@@MyGovExpert My brother did that and he lives like a king, but far from his children.

I got a lawyer and all he did was submit the letter that I wrote and then he turned my case over to his college interns. I was calling every week to find out how my case was going with social security I found out on about the one year mark that they was getting ready on a Friday afternoon to close my case and make me appeal it. I asked them to please not closed my case just did not make a decision and I was going to fire my lawyer so I did. I submitted everything myself that he should have submitted the things he didn't and I actually won my decision. And I got a letter from him that said he fully expected to get paid so I called the bar association and then I got a letter back from him that said never mind LOL.

I also don't trust being alone with strangers in my vehicle or even for deliveries. I have physical limitations. So far, I'm adjusting/managing. I have to make it work. My income can no longer afford sticks and bricks. I'll keep watching. I'm picking up some valuable information. My friend is a disabled vet. Like me, his place is Sold. And he's forced out of the market. I think we should go see a concert. ✌️❤️ ~ 🦋

Burial Insurance, I encourage folks to look carefully at their Banking plan/contract. Some savings and checking accounts come with a small (like $10,000) life insurance plan. It ain't much, but it would sure pay funeral expenses for most.

I have a different opinion on hiring a lawyer from the beginning. Most individuals are clueless as to the ins-outs of Social Security. They may answer questions or omit information that would have possibly received an approval IF they had answered the questions correctly. Having an attorney BEFORE you file will help ensure that your submission has the best opportunity for success.... my humble opinion.

Well, I (humbly) disagree. Just b/c someone is an attorney does not mean that they know a lot about SS. I think a lot of people know someone who is proficient about SS & indeed a lot of people, just from reading about SS on websites, know a lot about it. People can also call their Area on Aging office to discuss SS questions w/ them. They generally have people on staff who are knowledgeable about SS. I would exhaust these options first before consulting w/ an expensive att'y.

Cremation Society of Oklahoma total bill $1241 ( including death certificates (10) . We paid $100 down in 2016 to lock in the price of $1095, the balance to be paid out of daddy’s estate. Total bill $1241 includes 10 death certificates. Another gift daddy gave us kids❤️ 2:44

I'm retired a dentist. I had a patient go to South America to get dental implants. If I showed you the x-ray films I took of them you'd appreciate the saying.... "You get what you pay for." Horrible work. Good luck to him!

My first go at SSD I failed, worse the person who gave me the fail notice also gave me a lot of negative “information “ above how I would be wasting my time resubmitting (NOTHING about reviews or challenges). It wasn’t until nearly a year later when my work insurance was running out (1year, 3/4 pay AND one of reasons I was told I didn’t qualify) that I saw an ad, not one of those LOTS of ads type, but one that said they specialized in Veteran’s issues (I’m a Vet, no pension, sadly) and Disability issues including applying for SSD. They found a minor issue in my medical history, got the information from my VA records and with them got approved AND back pay to my FIRST filing due to misinformation (which was an issue at the time). They only took 25% of back pay, btw. Also gave me the corrected medical file and court information on a cd as well. I am VERY happy with them, I referred others to them which I don’t usually do.

The best gift our daddy did for his family was while he was estranged from us 5 children he bought long term care policy. It cost him $500 a month in 1996. When he came to live w me , his oldest daughter, ( 2nd divorce) we stopped paying for the policy due to debts he owed. He had banked quite a bit w the ltc company. What he didn’t know was, the funds he paid in for 4 years that he didn’t use DO NOT go to his children.The insurance company keeps the rest of it😤. What a rip off!!! We were able to draw half of his money and he was able to have proper care in the nicer NH near my house. We took comfort in that fact at least 😔 2:33

That’s how these insurance companies work. It’s a gamble as to whether or not the person ever uses up the funds allocated to them. Some use some of it, some use none, as some never reach that age or need. Seems unfair. But I suppose it’s why they are able to make the profits they do.

@@catherineklerowski4591 if I would have had any idea how long daddy was going to live w Alzheimer’s I would have probably started drawing on it for in home aides but w Covid I didn’t really want to expose us to anyone. I managed to keep him well the whole pandemic and my 70+ yr old disabled husband and myself. I guess I could have guessed though because his momma died w Alzheimer’s/ heart attack at 88 too😔.oh well hindsight is always 20/20. My main goal was to hang in as his full time caregiver until his dementia had advanced to the point where “ as Alzheimer’s association says” they don’t know what they don’t know.” Then transfer to NH for 24/7 care.

Pretty much nobody buys long-term care insurance anymore...now it's just crazy expensive

There's a LOT here that applies to people on disability. I ONLY get social security but have become disabled however I don't qualify for medicaid. Not sure why because of the high cost of living and many many medical bills I can't pay due to cancer so I don't seem to qualify for anything.

I just called my State Farm rep. and told them my driving miles will be going way down, now that I've retired from my full time job and took soc. sec. The rep said I qualified for a certain discount if my annual miles are less than 7,500, and it worked out to about $10 a month reduction. Not much, but there's $120 a year more in my pocket.

A point about the Obama phones. I applied for a phone and was approved but lost my ACP which paid for my home internet so you can't have both. The phone was so bad that I cancelled the plan and resumed the ACP for my home internet.

I wouldn't normally recommend something kind of on the dishonest side, but if you are an expat and you need to come back to the US for medical care, if you're able to sign up for Part B and wait for your medical treatment, Medicare will pay 80%, and then if you don't have a supplement, then the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay your technically not responsible for if you are on Social Security. The reason for that is that if you're on Social Security and you have debt that you cannot pay, you are judgment proof. That goes along with a fair debt collection practices act, and it's for seniors who aren't able to pay their debts. The only problem would be is that if you don't pay the hospital and the doctor what they're owed, you probably can't return to those providers.

Puretalk (uses AT&T network) gave a three year discount for an already low cost plan (it was about $50/month for a cell phone with 'unlimited' data). After the discount period, it's still pretty low at $61/month. But this Puretalk discount was through AMAC (an alternative to AARP).

I got about $10/month off my car insurance for driving less, now that I don't drive 26 miles (13 miles each eay) to work and back, 5 days a week. It was a mileage discount, not age-related.

My SSDI 2nd lawyer did a great job. I didn't even need to go to the hearing to get approved. I was denied the 1st time by my own application. My 1st lawyer didn't do a good job & I lost. The 2nd lawyer was a referral.

@MyGovExpert Thanks. You are correct. Go with a local attorney. My 1st attorney was in a local group of attorneys. I don't think he put in the work. My 2nd local attorney, his specialty was SSDI. He sent me to doctors, etc. Even though he took a cut. 5.25% ? at the time, he was worth it. I still got some back pay.

What about if you filed and caught your agent falsifying information? That actually happened to my brother

Then you should definitely ask for reconsideration. So someone else in the office or another office can take a look at it.

I have tried to get one. But I am told that it is for people on Medicaid and Snap; does not include Social Security, SSDI or Medicare or Veterans.

What are you referring to?

When talking about these programs I’m always curious about if there is a means test. Someone could have a good deal of money saved up but that doesn’t translate to a large income. Case in point my mother in law lives on just her SS check. However that check is larger than I can get from a 7 figure portfolio. She can qualify for some assistance programs with a larger income because of the means test.

Social Security has a policy to turn down 1st applications. Don't give up , appeal if you really need Social Security Disability. I got a lawyer during my daughters appeal for Mental Health. During the original application I gave SSD all of her hospitalizations and medications work history which had so many job changes over the years. All of her history collected. I had to go through months of collecting and sending medical records to them and they still turned down her first application. Side note. I have a girlfriend who applied for a job at Social Security and during the interview they told her "Our policy is to turn down first claims, do you have a problem with that?" My friend replied "Yes I do have a problem with it, if they really need it" Needless to say, she didn't get that job.

Good, Im glad some people are getting it the first time out. Mental health is hard. I think the second doctor saw the issues in person where as the first doctor was on a zoom call. But for me is was a miserable thing to go though, then get turned down and have to do it all over again with the paperwork and have them ask for more. Then being discourage and paying a lawyer to do the appeal made me feel a bit better until they pulled their fees out of my daughters account. Oh well in the end it all worked out even though shortly after she was approved my daughter was back in the hospital needing medication changes. Thanks Dr. Ed Weir for your advice and support. Im dealing with my own SS headaches as of yesterday finding out Win Fall will be taking half of my SS payment as I have just turned 62. I'm at poverty level income with my 11 year City Gov Pension and what I thought I would be getting all these years wont be coming to me. I sure do hope the Bill in the Senate is real and drops the Win Fall elimination provision. Its over 40 percent they are taking and I just fond out that the full age for retirement for my 1962 birth year is 68 years old. IS that right?? I have to take it now anyway. Not to be morbid but my family doesn't have a great life span history, so I may be looking at leaving here between 70 and 75 years. I'll take what I can get now $460.00 not a lot but i grow my vegetable and have a few chickens. I don't need much. But I do feel bad for people who don't have a garden. The death benefit only goes to the spouse or minor children. Or disabled children

At the 3:17 minute you say a lawyer is gonna take 72%. I re-round this twice to make sure I heard it correctly. I don’t think you meant to say the lawyer is gonna take 72% of your first $10,000. What you meant to say is the lawyer can take 25 % of your total check not to exceeded $7200. Right?
