You're right Dave. His word is so much more believable than Trump's. Sometimes I think Trump was trying to destroy our democratic form of government to serve his pal Putin. Putin has some type of leverage against Trump; hence Trump took Putin's word at Helsinki in 2018, instead of the word of our own US FBI! That says a lot about who Trump is.

I broke with the GOP in 2006 because I felt they finally lost their way politically; but I recognized there were still very good, moral, and dedicated patriots in the party. Before 2016, I’d still vote for reasonable and thoughtful GOP candidates who showed they were true conservatives, law abiding, and not reactionary culture warriors. After 2016 I vowed to never vote GOP again. Former Sec. Esper is one of those GOP holdouts who believe ethics, duty, character, and the Constitution really matters. I thank him for being a bulwark against Trumpian authoritarianism and chaos. His is another voice sounding the alarm that the Trump movement in the GOP is a threat to the U.S. Constitution and the Democracy held dear in our Republic. I truly hope that the average GOP voter realizes this and turns away from Trump, his spineless enablers, and reactionary, anti-democracy politics of rage that they support.

Lewis , recently back from war zone ( VIETNAM) WE were given a few days training riot control , we went to Seattle for riot control when native Americans protested when Ft. Lawton was given to city to built park , BRAKING TREATY to go BACK to natives when Feds relinquished property. Some protesters shot at us with BB & pellet guns ! Us , recently out of COMBAT ZONE managed NOT to shoot back with loaded M-14's. . They did finally took away our ammo , and relieved us that had been in combat !

They did blockade Venezuala. It didn't make national news, but Esper was at the conference announcing a massive naval deployment to Venezuala, while everyone was distracted by the coronavirus. This guy was a former lobbyist for the defense industry.

I haven't seen sixty minutes in quite a while.and wow.

Esper’s closing remark: “My oath is to The Constitution, not to him.” Yup, says it all - something Trump will NEVER fathom!

There are lawful and unlawful orders, it's up to you if you decide to follow them, but at that point you are liable for your actions.

Another book, only reason he is talking now. His loyalty is to his publishing company. How much did 60 minutes pay him? 💰

I respect him because he is one of the very few in Washington, D.C. that have any respect,loyalty and honor the U.S. Constitution! Under his Oath of Allegiance, he like any Soldier is required to obey any Direct Order, and is also allowed to disobey any order he knows is inviolate of the Constitution or Law in their jurisdiction. No direct order to an Officer means that he is allowed to use his "Discretionary Power's" of Judgement! Trump has none of these qualities instilled in him and in fact is the complete opposite of what is required or needed to be President. I don't understand how a "DRAFT DODGER" has been allowed to gain so much power in no time flat??? Is it Money over power, or Power over money?

All I can say is he should have come forward before he has his book on sale. I suspect everyone of them on both sides when they release a book and then hit the book tour telling their story. Most of the books are written by ghost writers based on the story they're told. So if you want me to believe you, then tell me before you write the book so there's no conflict of interest

I’ve watched several 60 Minutes interviews both their domestic and foreign videos. If my memory serves me right I’ve never watched a video where you can leave a comment. The comment section was often disabled. However, based on the subject matter this video is welcoming comments 🤔. I could be wrong, but I do not think I am.

Mark Esper shows good old-fashioned patriotism, and more power to him. Kudos and thanks, sir.

“I made that mistake and decided to step up there.” You sure did…and we all paid. I’m glad you’re stepping forward Mr Esper, but you might want to address the role of enabler. Many of us took the same oath as yourself, and would have resisted and resigned. A few of us would have passed on the position in the first place. That would go beyond oaths to the Constitution and enter the domain of Honor.
