The most brutally upsetting thing with all of this kinda stuff is that we are all human. Playing rugby put me into a category in life where certain emotions were hard to show... aggression, anger, tough face were easy. Laughter, jovial behaviour, lack of seriousness again, all pretty easy. Seriousness about reality, vulnerable emotion were and aren't easy, I think this is true of most men as well. This guy was in the elite world of the sport, he is clearly a big guy, toughness etc are all there...weaknesses are to be hidden, not shown, any cracks in armour are to be quickly covered etc and as such, this is the end result. Now people look at him and see a physically in shape human being, seemingly happy, seemingly "un-damaged" with no realisation if the internal suffering. Its tragic and I hope something can be done to slow the decline for anyone in his position, or with dementia...

It's only through brutally serious and brave stories being told by courageous campaigners like Michael and Frankie Lipman, that concussions in all sports will be elevated to being of paramount importance by all sporting codes. The North American football league was dragged into reality, after much resistance over 10 years ago(!), and yet here in Australia the issue is brushed aside and very little is being done to minimise it. Past players that built sports like rugby deserve the respect of the league, to be listened to and to act; to act like it's themselves or their children who are facing the effects of CTE. Surely, this issue is akin to construction companies' management knowingly sending their employees into work at an unsafe worksite?
