I wasn’t a football player and I have CTE from riding Bucking Bulls. I rode bulls professionally and in College. I’ve had so many concussions I don’t even know how many I’ve had. I’m 46 now and can’t remember day to day things but I can tell you exactly what I did when I was a kid. I think a lot about suicide and the anxiety I get if I leave my home is overwhelming. I can’t get any help cause there isn’t anyone that helps with this cause it’s so new I guess. I know I need help but I don’t have insurance and no one will see me. Tried to get disability and was denied of course. I’m 46 years old and can’t get any help. I’m physically ok so people think that I’m ok but I’m far from okay. I’ve lost all hope. I don’t even know what to do my family my friends no one has anything to do with me cause they all think I’m crazy. I’m not freaking crazy my brain just doesn’t work right. Well at least that’s what I think. College Athlete and I can’t get anyone to help me because I went in the mid 90’s. My wife left me in 2012 and my dog of 20 years died 3 years ago and I feel I don’t have any purpose anymore. I can’t explain how this has ruined my life. I feel for anyone that has this problem. It’s real. My last accident was in 2010 and it crushed my face and split my skull. I don’t have insurance so no doctors will see me. I’m at a loss and am about ready to give this fight up.

Hell doctors don’t know anything about this so I can’t get proper help. Been turned down for disability cause they don’t know anything about it. It’s crazy.

He's literally running through the motions of all CTE players, what saddens me about this condition the most is how it changes peoples personality, impulses, mood and behaviour. Look at how many CTE sufferers who were never violent turn violent, abusive or in the most extreme cases like Chris Benoit who killed his own family or Philip adams who killed 6 people at random or that NFL player they mentioned in this video who had one of the worst cases seen yet who was in prision for murder and killed himself. Absolutely terrifying to think that it can change non psychopathic people who were non violent before they suffered CTE to commit heinous acts of violence. Imagine that, if due to brain trauma you, myself or a loved one could be capable of murder. Of course, not everyone that has CTE will become violent but I am just saying that it seems to be highly correlated with CTE and our brain is amazing how it can regulate anger and regulate impulsivity which is extremely important to maintain!

The refs broke a lot of ammonia capsules under my nose to get me up, so much so that the teams coaches put an old leather helmet on me to soften the shock and had doctor care for my double vision. broken bones that healed out of line too. Many many other concussions all my life and extreme exposure to chemicals in industry while just making a living. Lots of street drugs too. Doctors diagnosed me with Parkensens at 50 but worked 2 jobs just the same. Married 52 years, poor wife, we have 5 kids, all highly successful thank God, and crazier than ever but not yet institutionalized. Anxiety, whatever it is, thru the roof, anger that must be masked, sleepless nights, no friends, shunned, but still riding the crest of the wave. Played football from 7 to senior year in highschool. On medical record, i have 11 concussions. Not including outside of football, i had two head injuries within 4 months apart. One of those i had an egg the size of an orange on the back of my head. Still have a tiny egg. Fast foward to 21 and i am suffering. My behavior is not what it used to be. I used to be relaxed, cool calm and collected.Even my fiancee is noticing that im not the same man i used to be. My mood swings at least twice a day. I can wake up happy and an hour later im crying. Last year i took a job and its 12hr shifts only 3-4 days a week and really good pay. But im still not happy, and thats not normal. I had motivation to get this job but around the time of hiring i hit a slump and got dark. Ever since i havent been the same. These past 4 months have been the hardest. The only thing thats made me make it this far is weed. But i cant be high all the time due to my job and well, i dont have a medical card. It is legal recreationally but still need a card to go to a dispensary. I am scheduling to see a therapist because this is getting out of control. And i can only tell my fiancee im sorry so many times before she has enough of me and leaves. Its been rough and I hope someone out there reads this and can relate somehow. If anything talk and maybe we have some things in common with this. Im not saying i have cte, but im not ruling it out either.

I started playing tackle football at around 11 then stopped during middle school where I played flag. When I got to high school I was already 5’10 185lbs so my frosh yr I played jv then varsity for the next 3 yrs. I have had so many concussions I can’t even count them… but it’s my fault I used my head a lot, I could’ve tried to wrap the legs instead but many times it was unavoidable.. anyways, many times I’ve had concussions coaches just sat us out 1 or 2 plays till the stars went away and we were back in for more.. One day at practice during Oklahoma drill I tackled someone and hit my head on his shoulder pad, I walked to the side immediately started seeing stars and then I couldn’t see, heart beating heavily and slow, took a knee then face planted and had a convulsion.. went to the doctor and they discovered I had a heart disease in which sudden death is a possibility aside from the severe concussion. So no more football for me after that.. I was in depression for more than an year since I couldn’t fulfill my dreams and I had lost my D1 scholarship. I’m now 25 and sometimes struggle to articulate sentences or find the right words. I forget a lot of things, many of them are just simple stuff someone’s not supposed to forget and I get mood swings but I can block them off for the most part. I get dizzy and see stars if I move too quick especially vertically but that might have something to do with my heart.. I just hope things don’t get worse as I get older.

Most don’t. The nfl has gone out the way to give misinformation and paid millions to hide cte in football. Up until recently they were treating concussions with pain killers and smelling salts. Little kids in Texas are being literally taught that football is life.

CTE can only be diagnosed after death (although symptoms prior to death give a strong indication that it likely may be present). The brain imaging centre at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently developing a clinical test to aid in early diagnosis that would allow new drugs to be developed. Injecting a patient with a radioactive "tracer" and then doing a brain PET scan is being done and the results have been encouraging so far.

That is true. But is also the must uneducated answer I see in the comment section. It is voluntary but you are not told that when you get a ding to sit out back in the '80s because it may harm you brain in the future. Do you believe boxers like Ali, Foreman, Frazier and Norton would have stood in the till they almost died at times if they knew what it would have done to their quality of life? NO! What happens to your brain causes rage, confusion, depression, loneliness even when your family is their. I know, so don't disrespect these men and women about something you know nothing about because we do love our families we just don't know how to express it. This disease also cause many other problems with your body that you have no idea about. GOD BLESS YOU ALL WHO FEEL THIS WAY

CTE can be cured. The brain, like any type of organ can repair itself, if you give it the RIGHT treatment. It takes a lot of effort that many are unwilling to undergo, a complete change in diet, lifestyle, and sleep. Dont give up, you can recover with the right environment and mindset.

footba11fan41ife With all due respect. I played football from 7th grade all the way through my senior year in college. I played back in the mid nineties when ice, dirt, rest and a whole lot of suck it up kid were in full effect. I played linebacker and D end until I got to college and I was a human battering ram playing fullback. I have had more hits to my head then I care to remember. I have never beat my wife, kids, or flipped out on coaches. I fully understand about CTE, however you need to understand that we are in the infancy of the research. LJ and guys like Aaron Hernandez were bad seeds and made incredibly poor choices going all the way back to child hood. I'm tired of hearing these piss poor excuses for bad behavior. CTE could be a factor, but the individuals mind set and personality play a larger role.

Hudson Haverford you might be right but you might be wrong. I played ball since I was 9 years old and in college and definitely feel like i’m suffering from some post concussive symptoms. fullback is a brutal position back when they were used. all i’m saying is brain injuries probably effect everyone differently from one person to the next. brain injuries are more complex than we can even imagine. good thing you don’t feel any of the harsh effects. god bless
