When Pedro and Manny returned, every Red Sox fan should have been standing and cheering. Those two brought success and greatness to Boston unlike anyone else.
Insane seeing a Yankee getting a standing ovation at Fenway.

@@ayyubvernon1557 That did hurt, but like I say,.we just get used to it. I was a 16-year-old Sox fan when we lost Sparky Lyle to NYY. He won a Cy Young award AS A RELIEVER for the Yankees the first year after he left us. That one was more serious for me. Now, I just look at our club and think, who's going to end up a Yankee? It's a fact of life, and I've learned to move on.
As it turned out, I think the Yankees wished that Ellsbury did retire 🤣🤣🤣

@@K1OIK , 1. you may have read too much into my comment. im sorry he wasnt on the team, but i dont disagree with the trade. 2. trading him *_did not_* get them their ring. in return, the Red Sox rcvd Doug Mientkiewicz and Orlando Cabrera. they were decent... and they were helpful, but no ring gatherers.

@@googoo-gjoobyou conveniently left out Dave Roberts. Lol. Just the single biggest play in Boston history.
Johnny Damon getting booed will forever be funny. Even as a Red Sox fan. Bc we all knew it was coming.
Dwight Evans? I was in the park when Evans came back for the first time. The club didn't do anything to publicize his return. But there were handmade signs and one of the longest standing ovations I can remember. He was one of the all-around Red Sox greats.

Love how Roberts had the biggest applause for one amazing, gutsy, history altering stolen base
This is class. Wow!
former players getting a complete standing ovation. meaning players returning to their former team, yet still getting cheered no matter what.
Dave Roberts got the biggest cheers, Manny got the loudest boos, I totally forgot Nomar was an Oakland A, and the video ended with a logical question: Boston didn’t offer Ellsbury a contract, what was he supposed to do?
@ChrisCarter-bx7ii
11 ай бұрын
I didn't think it was a logical question to ask if the fans wanted him to retire since the Red Sox didn't offer him a contract because two seconds before asking the question he read a sign that said "Anywhere but New York" which pretty much answers his question.
i LOVE that the *Skankees* paid Ellsbury $153 MILLION for 511 hits. that works out to $299,413 per hit. they ended up paying him $68 Million to _not play_ the last 4 years of his contract. Red Sox money well NOT spent.

Be a far better player for one, including four consecutive batting titles. From what he's said Jean Yawkey offered him a big extension just before she died, and it got lost in translation after that.
Great Red Sox who return should be cheered wildly....except when they went to the Yankees. That is a selfish betrayal that can never be forgiven. If I saw Boggs, Clemens, Elsbury or Damon walking up the street towards me....I would cross to the other side.
No, Michael Kay, they wanted Elsbury to go anywhere else, but NY. Want him to retire? Kay must think there are only two teams in baseball. You can't trust a word coming out of the guy's mouth. Kay will just lie to make a point. No respect for him.

to answer your question, YES. retire. retire versus going to play for their mortal enemy the Yanks. but still, Elsbury did help them get their first world series title in nearly 100 years. along with some of those other players. so maybe standing ovations should have been in order.
