This is not true, they used a survey that anyone could claim that they are native and held it in an area that didn’t have a large native population. And just because one person, who made money and or a career at selling out his own people, doesn’t speak for the majority of native out there. This 80% is bs and maybe they should try to have an honest survey and contacting the tribes across the US and having them survey there own tribal members and see if we still come up with 80%.

Some of the best long distance runners in the world have been native american. There was a dude from Canada who ran maybe 100 miles barefoot for a marathon. He started last but came in first and beat everyone by hours. Can’t remember his name but my class did a whole thing on him when I was in school like 10 years ago. They’re no joke. Even some of the military natives like Francis Pegamagahbow or Tommy Prince. They did some crazy shit I’ve never heard of anyone else doing ever. Nuts. Absolute mad lads.

I find it interesting that the Chief found the name Redskins offensive, considering the fact that the Native American logo the team used for decades was actually proposed to the organization by a man named Walter "Blackie" Wetzel, who not only was a member of a tribe (Blackfeet) but at the time of said proposal (1971), was the president of the same organization (NCAI) that is now decrying the Braves' Tomahawk Chop. He was also apparently very well respected both in his tribe and outlying communities. Perhaps the disagreement on the side of the Native Americans was mostly geared towards the name of the team, and not the actual logo. My take on it, anyway. I know there are also those who didn't find either the name nor the logo offensive. Just interesting to hear the other side from an actual Native American and not just the media.

I'm an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and a Braves fan. Just to play devil's advocate, Walker Jr. says 80% of his tribe (The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians) respects the organization. That's 3200 out of 4000 members. There are 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the U.S., composed of a total of about 6.79 million members. That translates to about 0.05% 'respect' overall. No one person or group of people can speak for all of us. It's a complicated issue, and will benefit from more discussion. Just my two cents.
