😂 I love realistic fans....NO ONE CARES even after two WS titles and a new stadium. I don't think Floridians care about baseball because it's a summer sport. The Grapefruit League is popular with tourists. Same with the Rays. Best "small market" team and no fan base. Any chance you know the backstory about the guy who appears frequently sitting behind home plate with the old orange Marlins gear?

@@kentstallard6512 the general Heat and Dolphins fan bases may not care too much about baseball but Florida is home to millions of Hispanics who love baseball. I'm also one of the 47 Marlins fans, and the 03 World Series to me, still feels like when baseball was at its best. Awesome memory.
Die hard Cubs fan here. I never thought I’d like David, but I’ve come to love him. And this cemented it. Been saying for 21 years, Dusty cost us that series. Jack McKeon had his best pitchers ready to enter any game at any time. Clement, Zambrano, Wood sat in that bullpen in game 6. He played for game 7 when if we won that night, there is no game 7. Refreshing to hear this take!

Not a Cubs fan, but that series and the subsequent WS victory by the Marlins sickened me. An iconic franchise with a loyal fan base loses to a swampland team with NO fan base, owned by scumbag Loria. I'm a Dbacks fan but I was happy to see the Cubs finally break through. Seeing a game at Wrigley is on my bucket list. Driven past it.

I blame Moises Alou's temper tantrum on a fly ball he never would've caught in the first place lol.
My father, worked as a beat reporter/ news director for the old AM 1000 radio station in Chicago, as well as AM 780, WBBM. His radio name is Mike Scott, he covered Chicago sports(mostly Bulls & Cubs) in the mid-late ‘90’s. By the 2000’s, he had switched to covering local politics, but he was still relatively well known in Chicago. My family’s last name is Baartman, obviously my name has one more a than Steve’s last name. However, this didn’t stop angry Cubs fans from calling my mother on our HOME PHONE NUMBER, because everyone thought my dad was somehow related to Steve & was hiding somewhere! Chicago sports are the real deal.

Back in 2012 I talked to an usher at Wrigley who was family friends with Steve Bartman. He told me Bartman's company sent him to their branch in Texas to get him out of town for a while. Very sad.

I'm sure you've seen the 30-for-30 on Bartman. Crazy. Yes, Cubs fans are passionate. Which is why it sickened me when that garbage franchise beat an iconic team with a loyal fan base and went on to win the WS. Loria is a scumbag and no one in Miami cares, even with the new stadium. I'm a Dbacks fan but I was happy for Cubs fans in 16.

The cubs did not lose because of bartman, they lost because of a missed ground ball for an error that could have been turned into a double play easily. Bartman is just a scapegoat for cubs fans and I am a cubs fan but those fans back then were moronic. The cubs made so many mistakes in that game. After the bartman situation the game was literally in the exact same spot it was before the incident.
Thank you for bringing up the fact that the White Sox had an 80+ year World Series drought winner the year after the Red Sox did it. No one talks about it and it's so frustrating as a Sox fan

@@victorle7693I think he's a great lockerroom presence and mentor. In-game management, not so good.
Tony Russo created the era of over using the bullpen which in some way led to the over reliance on analytics. I will also go with the "old school" manager who trusts his instincts and his pitcher. I think it was Jim Palmer who said that it used to be the bullpen was full of guys who weren't good enough to be starters and I hate the "specialist" and the guy groomed to pitch one inning.
What a jerk.

As a lifelong Cubs fan, I've always blamed Moises Alou throwing a temper tantrum in the outfield on a ball that he most likely would not have caught in the first place. That really sucked the air out of the whole team, in combination with the pitcher's struggle. And the rest is history.

He's completely wrong. How do you blame the pitcher for an error? Never was a Dusty fan, but this is a biased analysis.
This has already been debunked. Mark Prior himself said he was not overworked and not exhausted. If Alex Hernandez and Bartman hadn't happened the Cubs would have been in the World Series. The Cubs were the better team that year.
A world series title 20 years ago is all the marlins have. They have no fan's and no history. The owner(s) don't seem to care if they win or lose. This guy sure left a legacy behind just not the one he thinks. Marlins suck

That play absolutely cost the Cubs that game. Alou had his eyes and glove locked on that ball. He would have caught it. He at least would have been able to make a play on it, but we'll never know. Bartman is a sympathetic figure, but he should have had more awareness about what was going on. Everyone reaching their hands for that ball should have been paying attention.

The Marlins franchise sickens me. Miami should've never been awarded a franchise. Swamp dwellers don't care about baseball. It's a summer sport and summer in Florida is hell. That MLB allowed them to start in a football stadium with no roof was crazy. Two WS titles, a new roofed stadium...and NO ONE CARES. Same with the Rays, the best small market franchise. No fan base. Loria is a scumbag. Garbage franchise. (I'm not a Cubs fans either...I'm a Dbacks fan) Hopefully the league will relocate both the Rays and Marlins in the near future. In a few decades it will necessary anyway as the swamp is submerged.

MLB expanding not once but twice into the state of Florida has never made sense to me. Florida already gets its slice MLB with the spring training sites. At least the front office with Tampa Bay tries to make it work by putting winning teams on the field but even that is not enough to generate crowds. The Marlins have never raised their self-perception beyond an expansion franchise. They caught lightning in a bottle during the postseason in 1997 and 2003, qualifying as a wild card team each time. Really quirky fact about the Marlins: they have NEVER finished in first place in their division, yet they have two World Series championships.
