    Criticizing Islam is difficult everywhere in the world. I noticed this even in the West. For example, I have even been non-offensive, rational, and polite with Muslims I knew personally. When some are encouraged to read the scriptures and return later with their "peace" discussions, they act like I don't exist. Even this makes it very hard to have a civil conversation; I can't imagine living in a society where people are literally shunned, lynched, and punished for even criticizing a 1500-year-old ideology. There's a lot of gaslighting among Muslims. They want people to see a different reality than the one written about in the books.

The explanation is simple, they're not on the same page with you they're not interested in the discussion itself they feel it's an existential fight to defend religion so the 2 of you are in 2 different worlds. As another reply said the defensive panic mode makes logic, consistency and morality secondary or totally ignored. I'm not in the west though (Egypt).

    @@freiheit3 , good points all. Muslims go into panic mode whenever Islam is challenged. They don't want to discuss; they feel that their very existence is being threatened. At that point logic, evidence, facts, and basic listening skills go right out the window. There is simply no common ground for the discussion. Muslims and Kuffar might as well be from different planets in reference to the subject of religion.

    Excellent interview. (I saw it back then but glad you uploaded it to this channel as it's worth seeing again!) btw yes المانوية is Manichaeism and when Islam spread to Syria and Persia, Muslims were met with many philosophical arguments from the peoples of those lands who were well versed in their classical traditions such as Manichaean & Greek ideas and so many Muslims had to find arguments against them by going down the philosophical route. But the scripturalists were against such a methodology. (Re Pre-Islamic poetry, my view is that much of it was a later fabrication and conveniently cited in tafseers to explain linguistic anomalies in the Qur'an.)

    I am not a follower of the Church. Still, the moral consciousness of Jesus Christ in a violent Middle East 2000 years ago is way above Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon whole humanity). To preach non-violence in the Middle East 2000 years ago! Look at the Israel-Arab conflict now! "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" - Its a logical statement from Jesus Christ. You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." 39But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

    The problem is that the Christians and Jews left the protection of their families and society entirely up to the government or others. In a civil society with laws that are adhered to, and where there is consequences for actions, your fellow citizen can be like your brother. In a situation like Khyber and later in Arabia and all across the Mediterranean and Middle East, where your civil society is being violently attacked, destroyed and subjugated with organized intent for caliphate, there is no longer brotherhood, no familial-type bond, even in humanity. Jesus did not espouse organized violence, but did not stay to allow his haters to throw him off the cliff in one instance, or allow himself to be taken by the corrupt religious leaders until he felt it was time for himself to be the sacrificial lamb.

    It certainly is. Just compare the example of Jesus to that of Mohamad. And the Bible has things in it that have the capacity to redeem some of its harsher elements. For example the Gospel (John 4, 7-12) tells us that God is love, and that we must love one another like God loves us all.

    Islam has virtually nothing to do with “God’s existence”. Islam is largely about praying 5 times a day (whether you like it or not) and dry fasting every day for a month in Ramadan (whether you like it or not). Debating with a Muslim about “the existence of God” is an exercise in futility. It means next to nothing to a Muslim if you simply “believe in God”.

    I haven't watched this all yet Abdullah but just a sense to share - I bet this is going to be an educated and sophisticated video, and please can we have more of that? ! I feel, whether it is the algorithms, or the commentators themselves, so many social media accounts are getting sucked into a sort of 'catastrophic consciousness'. We are all being cajoled into 'taking sides', more and more it seems? I mean, headlines like "We're all doomed !", or super simplistic analysis that you know well, like - all Muslims are secret Taqiyya people - or whatever -. I just want to say I really appreciate the commentary that bring humanity to Islam. I don't want Muslims 'monstered', I do want Islamist fanatics to start thinking, and feeling, for themselves? And, as you probably know, I regard the questioners, the 'Ex' Muslims as the progressive Muslims. It helps me explain to my liberal friends that there is a growing movement in the Islamic world away from blind adherence to set behaviour patters. I don't think this is the end of the world, I think maybe for Islam it is the start of a thaw? Anyway, just posting in support of what you generally do, have sophisticated, many-sided chats with people about the very complicated contemporary sociology of Islam. Well done !

    We need to stop arguing if Jesus died on the cross and start discussing why. He was a moral genius, nothing in written history can compare to the Sermon on the Mount as guidance for morality for all times.

  • @theastronomer5800

    @theastronomer5800

    Keep in mind that many NT scholars doubt that Jesus ever actually gave this (famous) sermon. It's not found in the earliest gospel, Mark (why not?) nor is it mentioned in the writings of Paul which pre-date Mark (why not?). It's ONLY found in Matthew, Luke and John do not mention it (again, why not?). So, Matthew, written some ~50 years after Jesus, is the only text which produces this very long (three chapters - 111 verses) collection of Jesus sayings. Would you believe any other text if it produced a speech of someone who lived 50 years ago while other texts who wrote about that person never bother to mention it? It's possible that Jesus said some of these things at some time, but it's also possible that the author of Matthew, who has a specific theological message, invented some sayings - this was a common practice in ancient world if you look into it, where philosophers or historians would put "speeches" on the lips of people that they were writing about.

    Islam is what Muslims make of it. As far as religions are concerned, it's pretty difficult to argue against the concept of God in Islam. This gives the average Muslim false confidence in assuming the rest of the religion is as reasonable and benign as the pure monotheism it promotes. With that said, the religion "Islam" doesn't have to be seen as an existential threat, but this depends on whether average Muslims are willing to be self-critical and independent thinkers instead of being sheep led by bigoted tradition and ancient scholarship. I hope the ex-Muslim movement will provide a much-needed shock to stimulate a change in Muslim thinking. I recently saw an orthodox Sunni Muslim scholar criticizing our Caliphs of the past as bloodthirsty men, and this was honestly a refreshing view from a Sunni scholar. However, pressure and education must continue until it's normalized for average Muslims to reject and openly acknowledge the crimes of the past and the root causes of bigotry and intolerance without making excuses/justifications for them.

    Before Muslims become ex-Muslims, they should seriously consider Nabi Isa who has been alive in jannah for the past 2,023 years and will return to be Judge Isa very very soon. Muhammad has bn dead in the grave for the past 1,391 years so Nabi Isa should be the Muslim's true last n final Nabi simply becos he is still alive today. Study Nabi Isa - his words, his actions, his teachings, his commands, his life in the Quran and especially in the Injil. Anyone who says the Injil is corrupted is wrong becos powerful Nabi Isa, who is alive in jannah, will never allow anyone to corrupt his Injil.

If Islam is really from god, so he or she knows the best you need to obey even if you can not understand or you do not like it. All these signs, brutality, and viewpoints to humans, especially women, etc., should make you doubt it, but in the end, the confident way to be free from Allah's slavery sect is to study the Quran and see all nonsense and stupid fallacies.

    It is not the question of not understanding though, if that was the case then it would be fine for most people. It is the question of something being complete nonsense. And if this being evolved to be omniscient or all powerful and all knowing (what I believe the inevitable conclusion of evolution to be given an eternal amount of time), then wouldn't he want something/someone to share everything with, that was just as 'evolved' as he is, only difference being willing to submit to the 'originals' will. Just a thought I had while watching. Thank you for the thought provoking talk. I'm sure to be back for more.
