Retired Navy officers , not content with their pension , took up private jobs in a foreign land with a foreign security company. Did the decorated officers took clearance from the Indian Navy or GOI to take such work? Do they represent India in any way except that they hold Indian passports? As a fellow Indian I am concerned about their well being but any misfortune as a result of their behaviour or actions is their own doing. People fan emotions to achieve their own ends and it will not help anyone.

A possible reason for this tragic situation (if Qatar has justification) is that Indian intelligence officers are not up to the mark compared with their counterparts in other countries (and even Pakistan’s ISI). India’s RAW is probably made up of people who came in through non-competitive channels. They got in trouble in Canada and now this situation. Qatar is one of the most anti-India countries. Pray that these officers get back safely to their families in India.

If you look at India's current mineral deposits, most are completely depleted (that's why India imports their minerals instead of producing them themselves; they have nothing left). These are private citizens, even if ex-Indian Navy, and if they spied then rules for punishing spies are clear in many countries. So, it really is Qatar’s diplomatic moves that will decide their fates. Qatar cannot afford to anger india as India is one of its largest natural gas customers plus India is also allied with anti-Qatar Gulf states. Meanwhile India cannot also anger Qatar due to the big diaspora and remittances from Qatar. So both parties will take a balanced decision which means the sentence will be suspended on appeal and these convicts will face a lengthy jail and then deported. If they spied for Israel then Israel will also have to do something to protect their assets. The role of the Omani owner is also not clear yet and if the Oman government had anything to do with it. Several friendly and semi-enemy nations are involved. So this is not going to be easy but ultimately if these are spies and got caught spying for Israel then their fates are sealed as Israel and Qatar have adverse relations.

India is 5 trillion dollar economy and they can afford translators to unlike beggar Pakistan which needs IMF loans for survival. Why Indian muslims supporting Qatar instead of their own Navy personnel??
