In modern war, soldiers often say that the best time of their life was when they were in a firefight, although not too many say it out loud, as it is taboo to say so in our world, but being in a fight is exilirating, you have the invincibility theory. A lot of soliders feel *compelled* by society to say how horrible war is, and that is the problem of them returning home, they often want to again experience adrenaline rushes like that.

It's ok to be afraid, fear is good, but you can't let the fear consume you. It does not matter what stance you take on the topic of war, war can and will happen and it is up to those who can overcome that base fear to make a stand. I will freely admit that in my first engagement with the enemy I literally wet myself out of fear, but I did not let that stop me I continued with my mission (and changed my clothes later). I heard it once said that bravery is foolish, but courage is not.

@@tomaszkietyka2325 Invincibility fable is primarily towards teenagers, soldiers simply acknowledge the chance of death and hopes it'll be quick. But, you are right. Many soldiers really do enjoy combat due to getting an intense body high and they really do seek out experiences again or become frustrated. I would disagree, however, that soldiers are complied by society. I think even soldiers know that war is horrible, but alas it depends on each person.

In battle, they have more freedom to wear their uniforms as they want (with or without the outer blouse). Or they simply didn't have time to put on all their uniform. When SAS are attached to regular infantry as we see here, they are usually going to be wearing some sort of military uniform. Usually the only time you would see them in regular clothes would be if they were by themselves doing some secret mission or gathering intel somewhere. I would hardly call what the one SAS troop who stands up in the clip is wearing "regular clothes". looks like he has military trousers on, a black skivvy shirt and a full plate carrier with gear.

The 60mm mortars are typically attached to light infantry units, in my case in the army, since I'm in an airborne unit, we use 60mm mortars. Other mortar sections that are not airborne are attached to mechanized units (light armor/tanks) and they use 81mm and 120mm since they can transport them by vehicle. Artur, Hey yup you are right regarding the mortars, I’m Ex British Army, this video is a mix of a few British SAS working with US soldiers. Near the middle n the end it’s a British guy on the radio guiding in the mortars n sounds like he is talking to overhead aircraft also. The US guys are the ones in their normal combat gear & bunched a bit close up at times, not something we would normally do in the British army same as you Estonian guys, the SAS one of whom u can pick out wearing a black t shirt are the special forces guys. They were using a mix of smoke & HE mortars. The mortars we use you can set to fire as soon as u drop it in or you can set it to only fire once you pull the trigger, so we use a mix of both types. Yup in the British army we usually used higher caliber mortars but when on a long range foot patrol it’s often u will use smaller so u can carry more mortars. Also u r correct with the charging rings on the mortar rounds, the more u leave on the further it will go. I used to be a British JTAC (Joint Terminal Air Controller) basically they guy on the radio n would talk to aircraft or artillery etc to bring in airstrikes or send TIC reports. Would be nice to see a video on the British SAS who are THE original special forces n the best. The Iranian Embassy siege was a good well publicised event as the British SAS usually don’t advertise themselves n it’s hard to get genuine footage of them in combat. Thanks for you’re videos. Enjoy watching them. Now, why do I really want to buy one of your mugs???? I’m gonna get one, u are either using spells to sell them or you’re very good generally at selling stuff. Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧

Never experienced the sound from the business end of a 5.56(or a 7.62x39 for that matter) I do own both and shoot as often as Minnesota weather permits. I'd imagine the receiving end of a 5.56 would be a sharper crack based off muzzle velocity alone. They definitely have their own distinct sound and are easily discernable to anyone familiar with both rounds.

The mortar system used is a 60mm mortar with an M8 unconventional base plate. The conical nose settings can be NSB (near surface burst), HED (High Explosive Delay), and HE (impact). The charges are nicknamed "cheese charges" which are nitroglycerin pellets housed within a hard card-stock C-Type casement. The 60mm mortar has 3 fire settings: safe, drop fire (exposes the recessed pin at the base of the tube), or trigger fire. Typically for the most effective fire you fire the first round manually, holding the tube and baseplate in place while tracking the point of impact. If you have a positive hit, with your free hand, the gunner will switch to drop fire and get his ammo bearer to hand off round after round to produce a fire for effect fire mission to just rain absolute lead nut on terry.

I’m a United States Army mortarman and I loved seeing them bring out the 60 mm mortar because this is what I use for my unit. The new 60 mm do have a new trigger fire option so that you can be more accurate with when you fire. Also for MG firepower we use M249 Saw for the team level and the M240 Bravo and Lima for the squad level. The 249 SAW shoots the same caliber as the M4s and the 240B shoots the same caliber as the AKs 7.62

This is a 60mm mortar, which has a "hand held" feature. Where the user can fire with a trigger, it also does what you mentioned earlier when you drop the round in the tube is goes off. But hand held allows to be used without setting up a base plate

The 60mm mortar system shown in this video was being used in it's highly portable, albeit less accurate handheld mode which is aimed using a range estimating float bubble. It can also be used in a traditional setup with a full size base plate and bipods, with a sight and sighting stakes. But for expeditious warfare, it can be equipped with the smaller, square baseplate and utilized in handheld mode for quick fire not requiring a fire control director

I think it’s really neat how armies trained in totally different ways with different weaponry are able to work together in a way that actually makes the whole group better than they would have been if it was just one or the other on their own.

I was a mortarman... those are 60mm mortars, they can be fired traditionally with bipods and a sight , or in the handheld style seen in this video. these 60mm mortars are often an augment to rifleman (0311) , so the handheld is quite useful in situations where you needs rounds on target. you dont need to sink a baseplate or anything, just drop a little plate on the ground and kill.
