supertrashgamergirl it’s helpful that us MoM’s (Mom of Marine) give birth to hard headed crayon eaters! Seriously, that first clip made me want to go across the country where my oldest is stationed and wrap him up and bring him home. We haven’t gotten to hug him in over a year and a half and I miss my kid, even if he is almost 21, he’s always my kid. I’m so proud of how far he’s come in life, we had a crossroads where he could have gone either way. Luckily kid has a love of money, girls and relative freedom. Secretly he likes the structure of the military.

As mentioned, it's adrenaline most likely brought on by sensory overload. My friend took a round in the bicep in the middle of a firefight during one of his tours in Iraq and he mentioned that he didn't even notice until somebody pointed out that he was bleeding a few moments later. It was when he looked down that it clicked in his brain that he'd been shot and THEN it started to hurt like a b*tch.

Former Marine here. Before we deployed to Iraq, while still in Kuwait, they showed us a number of videos... one of them a Marine getting shot in the helmet right at the forehead. It pierced the helmet's kevlar, but got wedged in the helmet before fully penetrating. Of course, they also showed us videos of Marines getting shot in the head and dying from a sniper hiding in a car's trunk... In those shots though, the shooter was close and aimed for the face, not the helmet.

New to the channel here. I’m an American that lived in Taiwan for a bit. I made friends with an Estonian that lived a few doors down from me there. He told me how our soldiers had a base close to where he was stationed and they would swim out to a wrecked ship and dive off of it. Crazy shit. I apologized for our imperialism and he quickly corrected me. He said, “If you have the power, it’s your responsibility to keep the free world secure.” That really impacted my outlook on geopolitics. I really respect Estonians and am proud to call you guys our allies.

EDIT: The vest will stop 7.62x51mm NATO rounds with the ceramic plate inserts. The vests themselves aren't able to stop anything over ~9mm or so.

The automatic weapon in a squad is absolutely the most casualty producing weapon. It really depends on the cohesion and experience of the team members, but I've seen gunners turn targets into minced meat at 1,000 M. (Nostalgic sigh) good times...

I feel like the enemy tactics in these scenarios are to just keep up the thought of a constant presence. With that being a FOB they are the front line of possible expansion further into enemy territory. The enemy expends a handful of guys just to stop the progress of 100s if not thousands of soldiers even if for a brief period. They're idiots and it's suicidal but it's an interesting war game.

From what’s been observed, very rarely do insurgents attack coalition FOBs/COPs with intent to over run them. Majority of large scale assaults are done against ANA and Iraqi military outposts because insurgents know that they actually have a chance at success. Some COPs in isolated regions have been attacked on a full scale with advantage towards the insurgents because American forces take a heavy hit and decide to decommission the COP whether or not the insurgents were successful at first.

I saw a video of a marine come through a door and in an instant a shot hit pretty solid on helmet, but the shot was stopped by the Kevlar. he lived, seemed he was fine. I always wish the best for these guys.
