I'm not a Stan, but Revival is Masterpiece yet to be discovered. And I love Kamikaze & MTBMB even more, but I didn't like when he squashed Revival CD in Fall video, especially if he had defended same album on Ringer
As a father this is probably the most relatable song he has. His daughter literally saved his life and made his change his ways. That's something I can relate to so much.

Forsure man, definitely made me walk down memory lane for a bit. Those were scary times lol
The song playing under his vocals in Arose is called The Rose by Bette Midler from the movie of the same name. Just another layer to the song. The movie is about Bette who is a rockstar falling victim to drugs and alcohol. Just makes me love Em’s creativity even more. Using the vocals from the song - from the movie that parallels his own experience!

Yeah I had to look it up while editing lol it was bothering me. But yes, Great touch forsure. Rick Rubin is a genius.
Yeah, Em and Proof always called each other "Doody", 'cause "they were the shit". 😄Nathan is Em's younger half-brother. Em adopted Nathan when his career took off, 'cause Em's mother lost custody. Other than addiction, Em's mother had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, tried to make them sick to get attention. Em also adopted Whitney, who Kim had with another after marriage breakup, and Alaina, Kim's sister's
It was just way ahead of its time when it was realesed. Whole album is much better than I originally thought when I first heard it. I never disliked it but it has definitely grown more on me overtime
I think what a lot of peeps dont understand( not you) but many Em haters dont under the bond that he greatest with his fans from early on tracks like Rock bottom, Then to always telling his life story warts & all. Through deadbeat dad, junkie mom, being bullied, toxic relationships, broke, having a child while broke, going through addiction, sober, relapse, sober now for like 13 yrs now. The strongest fan base you can get is ones that can personally relate to you & have similar struggles that the people in the audience can relate to. 2nd half Em has been huge for addicts & recovering addicts, which just made him even bigger.

@@counterreaction yeah, Rock Bottom & Way I Am. Are still probably my fave Em tracks, because of where I was in life when I heard both those tracks & how i related to them in my early 20's. Hell, now in my late 40's, Way I Am is still a go to song when I'm really pissed off. For some reason it's therapeutic to put on & spit a long with the anger & when over I'm actually called down. Then in Ems 2nd half of career, I could relate to tracks like Deju Vue when I was going thru addiction & Not Afraid when I got sober. (Which many write that track off as just being commercial, but when you break it down it's pretty bar heavy) Most of early Em, I was more impressed with his skill level & complex style and visuals, cause I couldn't relate to a lot if it. But as I aged, it's tracks like When I'm Gone (idgof who ya are, if you gotta a baby girl & that song don't hit you, you got no heart. ) Its ultimately been the idgof attitude of saying what he wanted to say with skill, but also never being afraid to open the curtain to his real life trials and tribulations. Obviously the skills go without saying. The content can be great but if you can't express in a skillful way on wax, it's not.get listens

@@counterreaction @counterreaction Np brother. I truly appreciate you being honest about your opinions, and always making it known that they are just that, your opinions & what you like and/or don't like A couple facts about "The Way I Am" that I didn't know till years later. 1. Besides the true emotion & anger you hear him spitting & message, why it not only hit me hard but also why the feel, flow & Rhyme sceme/pattern, just worked so well & just flowed so well. It was written in the poetry style of what's called anaseptic trimester. Which is the style that Dr. Seuss actually wrote poetry in. I've only been able to locate 1 other hip hop track that was written the same way which was Andre3k in the 4th verse of Aquemini. 2. We would never have gotten that track, if Jimmie Iovine didn't tell Dre & Em, that MMLP was great when they turned it in. But, that it was dark. And that needed a lil less dark track to release on the radio to get buzz for the album. Both Dre & Em were pissed. As the story goes, Em sat pouting in the studio for a few days, with hoodoe pulled down. They played him all kind of beats etc. Then when producers were on a break, the keyboardist picked up an acoustic guitar & just started to strum a lil, and Em sat up & said that's it. That's how Real Slim Shady came about, (which I know was the mainstream radio play ish.... but I thought it was hilarious because he basically shat on everyone that he knew he'd be in rotation with & also other pop culture things that were popping at the time. Most importantly it birthed Way I Am. Hence the line "I'm never gonna be able to top what My Name is" (in terms of #'s) Without 1 there wasn't the other and considering it went onto be the highest selling hip hop album of all time, gotta give Jimmy some credit. Sorry for long posts, as an old school hip hop head, long b4 Em came out, I love hearing lil tidbits & inside ish from the studios & background of song creation. Figured you would too. Keep doing you, and continued success bro. ✌🏼

Ok, so now that I finished watching, great video bro! See, this is what I was talking about with Revival. People hated on it, but it has something for everyone. I can almost guarantee that there'll be some songs you don't like. But seeing your appreciation for music, in general, you'll probably appreciate it more than the average Hip-Hop fan. I think the Valium/volume flip works more than some, because I've noticed that people tend to just mispronounce the word often. Then again, I could just be bias because I've done it before in one of my songs lol. Some of my favorites from the album are Walk on Water, Believe, River, Obsessed, Like Home, Nowhere Fast and these two. Honestly, would love to see your reaction to the whole album. Keep up the good work my guy!

However, its okay to disagree on what’s acceptable. I have stretched a few bars in my day as well lol just not as egregious imo. Only example I can think of right now is feel/fill. But it was also attached to a conceptual double entendre snd phrased. So I give myself a pass lol Everything else has been pretty on point but its also why I get stuck with writers block a-lot of the time 😆 I write like a few times a year these days.
