I'm glad not all the comments are insults towards Phil regarding his appearance. He made mistakes and had to face the consequences, but deep down he's a good guy and I feel so bad scrolling through the mean things said about him because he doesn't deserve that. Nobody said being in the music business was easy, I heard he spent some time with a shrink during the Powerage tour. He's suffered mentally and physically, Bon's death did not help the situation either. So please remember that Phil is only human and an amazing musician. His contribution to AC/DC is something we should cherish for a long, long time.

Phil's basic drum beats and minimal fills are really simple - and yet they are fantastic! The way he perfectly sits back on the beat is a huge component of the band's heavy, unique sound. The other members of AC-DC owe a lot of their success to this highly musical drummer.

He was my best friend ever and he had a 1985 black camero tricked out. Anyway we lived and breathed AC/DC. AND buy hanging out with are older friends even made us love AC/DC. Seen them 8 times. But AC/DC was at their best when BON SCOTT was lead singer. He had a great voice and the moral of the story is AC/DC was the best kick ass get drunk get laid and fucking rock band of all time. I like Phil Rudd and he was the original drummer. Best song for me is if you want blood you got it. I rock every day to them.RIP MALCOLM YOUNG. 🎤🔊🔊🍻🤘

The only perfect sound AC/DC ever got was with Phil on drums. Not sure what happened after FLICK OF THE SWITCH in 1983 or 84 but they should never have replaced him. That was when they started going downhill. Even when he rejoined in the 90s, something was lost. I have a lot of respect for Phil Rudd and think AC/DC should have treated him better.

@@dodibenabba1378 Did he actually do it or was it just something he said? Whatever it was, it got settled in court. Phil Rudd has been known to get occasional help for mental problems for many decades. Maybe if AC/DC had treated him better back in the 80s, he wouldn't have gone so far off the rails that he said he wanted to kill somebody (and is that really so uncommon?) He's one of the greatest rock and roll drummers of all time and AC/DC wouldn't have made it without Phil. He's back in the band where he belongs and they sound better than they have since the early 80s, a great rock and roll comeback! It's a long way to the top...

When I was a young drummer in the 80's (easily impressed by complex fills and busy grooves) I didn't realise that the best drumming on the radio at the time was Phil Rudd. Like Ringo, Bonham and others, he made grooves that were solid, iconic, infectious and exciting even when they were laid back. Usually no fills, but Jailbreak (a masterful groove) has a few very nicely executed fills in the break down. I wish I could go back in time and see Rudd, M Young and Evans working out the early grooves: just a video of those conversations and takes would be a musical education.

Having crashed and burned myself in life as the result of drugs, you wake up one day and wonder who that guy was who did all those horrible things and where the wheels came off (career, wife, money, house, legal issues, you name it). No matter how much you think you are in control, it has you and the consequences are always ugly - I've attended too many funerals over the years of friends I've met who were just as serious as I was about staying sober. Ten years sober this past August; humble and grateful for every moment, but still dealing with consequences because some people will never let you forget (that's their problem - I've moved on). I wish him all the luck in the world.

Agree. People were critics of Ringo's drumming too, but a good drummer plays for the band's needs. And if he was Keith Moon style it would have not complimented John and Paul's talents. He wasn't just keeping the beat he was accenting what they were doing, like his patterns in "A Day in the Life." Phil's style accented Angus & Malcom's style.

@@brandonmorris8891 keeping it basic isn't as easy as it sounds , flash and fills are normally associated with skill and talent but when it comes to this band's direction and sound you can't underestimate the value of Phil's contributions. His simplicity and the marriage of the brothers riffs is the genius of their sound , each integral part a contribution and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. What Phil doesn't play (flashy fills and difficult parts) means as much as what he does play , rock solid groove defining legendary performance. He can knock it out it's second nature. They define arena rock at the highest level and it just works, but politics and lifestyle are as much about keeping the gig for Phil ; sad but true . Actions Count.

hard to find drummers like Rudd... I have shot down dozens of drummers in try outs for my bands through theyears ...etc. they can't stay in the pocket... get bored in the pocket and play inappropriate beats for certain songs.. what matters is band tightness, what is appropriate for a beat in a song, dynamics ,etc.. so difficult for so many people who want to be good drummers to understand even guitarists endless guitar soloing and singers not shutting up at the end of a song... really it is overkill ... That is why you need a lead dog to rein in this crap... you might say a great conductor who will call out the nuances that can make you great or make you a garage band for life...

Phil Rudd drove in the backseat of my car with me and a girlfriend from Vets auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa after their concert in 1979 to the Hawkeyes Hotel by the Des Moines Airport, where they were staying. How, that happened, I have no idea. The other guys were in a bus. The stage hands went around during the concert handing out leg patches to all the girls; that got me and my friend backstage. We were clustered like meat waiting for the lions to be let loose. I remember Phil being very kind and gentlemanly; nothing pretentious. In a hotel room I got talking with some stagehand who gave me some Australian money, that I still have to this day!. I left the after party when I saw all the drugs come out. Never saw Phil again that evening.

Diogenes26 But those who stay maybe straights, likly as not wouldn't trade their perspective (take on life) for their drug taking life. Give me a million and I could take some drugs. But otherwise my guess is I have the best. Yet the material possessions are not as theirs is. In fact they are millionaires and I'm out of work and in debt. But I can still laugh some times. It's like the difference of being sane or insane. In control or out of control. Some of their laughter is paranoid insane laughter. Not knowing what is going on and so they laugh. It sort of fills up the insane gap so the audience might not suspect they are mad. But my laughter is paranoia free. Methamphetamines cause paranoia. Looking out of the cutain to see if they are being watched then telling them selves, Nah! It's just the drugs when in fact they are being watched. I wouldn't waste my time with jealousy of them. A bit jealousy of their volume of money. But after another 10 days I may have a bit. At least enough for my rent. Contentment is obtainable with or with out cash. It's not cash dependent. But I'd rather have cash and contentment. So not all is rosy for me. But I wouldn't change to a druggie. Been there, done that.
