Are we to forgive people who don't ask us to forgive them? What if you tell someone you forgive them and they say I don't want it and I will continue to do things to hurt you. For Jesus to forgive us we need to ask him to.So why would we be required to forgive someone who did not ask us to. And say they do not want us to.

I heard a good answer from this preacher: Pastor Mike Fabarez www.oneplace.com/ministries/focal-point/listen/ask-pastor-mike-peace-on-earth-437554.html Not sure if it is the right sermon or not. Hope this helps.

+cooldog60 To forgive is to absolve the offender of any wrong-doing and to free the person of any punishment that was due them. You do not need them to ask for it.

To forgive is to set yourself free from the curse of the fact that you will do and be like the offender in the future because your mind always focus on his sin. What you focus on , keep in your mind all the time, will manifest in your life. To forgive him is to do you favor: not to be like the offender. You will be free to be the loving, just person you want to be when you let go of the offenders' sins, mistakes from your mind and heart. You forgive for your own peace of mind and happiness. Life is tiring, exhausting when you always have to carry the heavy luggage of judging, blaming, unforgiveness with you, even in your...sleep. BE FREE.

I did not do anything wrong. My dad insulted and belittled me and my family and always is very negative. He was very mean. I don't understand.

When we forgive, we are free to fly in joy, to live a joyous life, not having to drag the heavy luggage of blaming, judging, unforgiveness with us all the time because it is a pain to carry it wherever we go, even in our...sleep! When we forgive others, especially our parents, we will not commit the same sins, mistakes that they did because we do not focus on their mistakes anymore. What we focus on all the time will become our characters. The bible said : where the heart( mind) thinks, the man follow. Even if we do not like their mistakes and we think they are wrong, we will end up doing what they did, being like them. The only way to be free from that curse is to forgive them, let them be free from your unforgiveness and from your judgmental mind. And guess what? You will be the amiable, loving , kind, just, harmonious person that you want to be, not being haunted by your parents or others' mistakes anymore. God bless you all.
