I wanted to warn you about your forge and the uncoated wool insulation you have in and around it. I found this on the IFI site and it states the danger very well... "You need to rigidize and coat your ceramic wool insulation to keep from having the fibers from blowing in the air and landing in the lungs of you and your family. That can result in severe granulomas of the lungs and eventual silicosis and cancer of the lungs in any age group with the risk climbing with each exposure." A little research on this will confirm what I am telling you. BTW... Nice job on the power hammer.

Hi, thanks. My plan is to cover it with sheet metal from outside. But im not sure about the inside, everyone seems to have just uncovered wool inside. Maybe the heat melts small fiber particles, so they will not fly around. I got this wool from a guy who builds glass making forges and ovens(kilns maybe). So i will also ask him about this issue. Thanks anyway. Have a nice day.

KarlMetalworks - No, it won't melt and be safe. You should use a product like Kast-O-lite 3000 to cover the ceramic wool, and then paint with an infared reflective material like Plistix or Metrikote (or an equivalent that you can source locally). You don't need the external layer of ceramic wool, I believe.. if you do keep it, encapsulating it is absolutely necessary too. Sheet metal would not be adequate unless it is air tight, but that would probably create problems of it's own (think BOOM!). There is a lot of advice (good and bad) on the internet. You might check Wayne Coe's website out. He's got a lot of good info and can supply materials for making good and safe forges. Waynecoeartistblacksmith.com
