Forging a Mini Naginata: The Samurai Challenge
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hey all, welcome back and boy is this a long one! After spending 3 months procrastinating, I finally decided to get started!
I forged the blade out of a piece of 1075 on Monday the 9th and annealed it in my forge. On Tuesday the 10th I rough ground the blade and heat treated it. I quenched it in old motor oil and tempered it in a toaster oven at ~ 425 degrees Fahrenheit or 220 degrees Celsius. I also did the rough shaping on the handle. On Wednesday the 11th I did the final shaping on the handle and fit the blade to the handle. I then glued up the blade. On Thursday the 12th I finished the handle and sharpened the blade. I charred the handle and finished it with a beeswax furniture polish. Last I made a leather sleeve to improve durability and aesthetics where the handle meets the blade.
Huge thanks to @TyrellKnifeworks for organizing this whole challenge and enjoy the video!

Dude, what an insane amount of work you put into that! I really like the way you put that together! Definitely a very rewarding thing to do making something by hand!!!! Great video brother!

Thank you 😊 It can be moved, yes, but not much farther than my yard. I don't have a forge truck or anything like that. Taking it places would be a big hassle. Thanks for watching!
