I've been making knives for nearly 11 years now. I've struggled multiple times with ill fitting pins. What I've done is the past is used my belt grinder to slim them down a bit to fit, but it almost always wasn't perfect. I about slapped myself in the face when I saw your method of using a hand drill. 🤦♂ Thanks for sharing that little tidbit! Thank you for sharing your process. You have a new subscriber in me. I'd love your feed back on my own channel if you've the time. Great work, keep it up and I look forward to seeing more in the future!

@@MartinHuber_Knives seen people use coffee!? …. Same idea? Does the acidity help with contrast or more for deeper etch?
@MartinHuber_Knives

@@OGfrenchy1986 Yes exactly, it doesnt make the etch deeper, but darker. The one thing i disslike about coffe, that it etches the nickel steel aswell a little. The orange juice does not :)
Your beard turned that color because of all the sparks hitting it while grinding! What a great build!

You guys should have sealed the 2 steal folds between the sheet steal first that way your stop the extra O² getting into the forge weld
@MartinHuber_Knives
3 ай бұрын
Yeah would have been possible to do, but then we would have to grind away the weld afterwards. We do this for more complex stuff line mosaics or similar, but not for normal random damascus :) and Borax does a great job at this aswell
Servus ein super video tolle Arbeit.was hat es mit dem Orangensaft Aufsich mfg herlei

How does the modern technology being used here affect the final product if at all?
@MartinHuber_Knives
2 ай бұрын
Modern technology just helps you to make the knife faster and easier. Sure could do something like this with a handhammer, coal forge and some files. But it would take AGES. And the one important thing about modern technology is the Heat-treatment. Percise temperature, holdtime and tempering is what makes the knife a working mashine! :)
Why do you pour salt on the block , before keeping it in the oven ?
@MartinHuber_Knives
11 күн бұрын
This is Borax, its helping the steel by not reacting wit hair and to not form any scale so the weld is cleaner!
