Dude NEVER apologize, for natural sounds of work, it is without a doubt the craftsman's harmony,

Aww, man. I need some springs - and there are some cheap knives going in the pound-shop this week. Make a video and show us the method please. Thanks! :-)

From a guy who just started forging, the narrating helps a ton. So many skilled craftsmen on KZread, but you're the first I've seen to explain your process

For sharpness test, only True test is can it filet onion skin paper and not go through?
I would gladly accept that as a gift thank you very much. As much as you put it down it still showed it’s beauty.
I watched this video back to back again. I love his videos more than anything on KZread.
Hey man, a cool trick to drilling round stock like that is to chuck the drill bit in upside down then lower it down and clamp the bit in the vise. Then chuck the round stock. Kinda like a lathe. I was able to drill an 1/8th" hole in 3/16” aluminum.

YES my favorite knife maker, is back :)
The end result is beautiful with nice lines. If it was in front of me, I would have tried to buy it. It's a treat to see how you went about making it, learning your techniques and mistakes.
From an automotive spring to a beautiful knife. What's not to like. Amazing.
Toaist saying of the day: The mark of the true master craftsman is not that his work is free of mistakes but that after years of hard use one is still unable to find where he repaired them.
WHAT DAT? NEW GREEN BEETLE VIDEO? AW YES!
Wait, you're not using 1k RC car springs or 100k Bic pen springs. Just an actual car spring? You never cease to amaze.

I won't lie, it annoyed me. but what annoyed me most was making a takedown construction knife and then EpOxYiNg It ToGeThEr
@GreenBeetle
5 жыл бұрын
It's not a takedown. screw is ground down flat in the back. epoxy keeps moisture out from under the hood and cinches up the fit.

just a tip: normally when folks do that no-hands tomato slice test, they have taken a nice flat cut off the underside surface of the tomato where it contacts the cutting board. that make sense? like, you create a straight facet that adheres nicely to the cutting surface because of moist vacuumy effect and increased contact surface area. apologies if you know this and are intentionally trying something physically improbable.

Most automotive leaf springs and shocks are 5160, any made in America that is. If you can get ahold of some leaf springs off of any farm equipment from the early 60's back to the 30's you get some amazing spring steel. I have some off of a 1950's tractor that I would be happy to send you a piece of. Semi leaf springs are great as well.
It has been a blast, watching your journey in smithing. Your work just keeps getting better and better. And too thick or not, this is a beautiful knife
Diggin this one, really useful all purpose blade shape.

The end product looks beautiful, and I think the cheeky little handle hack actually enhances it.
I think you underestimate yourself. This knife is a work of art. And I'm not saying this lightly, like I like the knife. No, this is truly a beautiful item. All the curves, edges and shapes are right. Congratulations!

Beautiful work! I love it. I feel inspired to make one too
Love the geometry of this one, and it's beautiful as always.
I've been watching forging/knife making videos for about 1.5 years now, and yours is one of the most honest down to earth (not constant talking) enjoyable vids out there. Great stuff. Subscribed.
I LOVE this knife. Work of art. Brass, leather, bird and trout style? Wonderful.
I found it inspiring, because that is exactly the issues I come up to. I also found your honesty refreshing, but you did not need to be apologetic. As some one commented, I also love watching your videos and often out of the box thinking. the shape of your knife really appeals to me and the wood is lovely and pleasing to the eye. Thank you so much.
Gorgeous knife, and thanks for the candor on the overall process. Amazing work. Thank you for sharing this.
My favorite knife you've made sir. I've watched this video about a dozen times !
I actually like the leather spacers. My favorite knife is one my granddad had with a leather handle. That's just plain ol' ingenuity, not bad work.
Handle is GORGEOUS! Nice end product, GB.
all defects aside, that leather and brass is a nice touch
Liked the knife and the video enough that I subscribed... Well done!
Looks Fantastic. Gotta say I love your commentary, very amusing and educational. One of the best.
Not only are you extremely entertaining, but your knives are absolute works of art! I'm certainly proud to own a couple!
Congratulations and the best to you! May all your forging dreams come true. I’m very proud of you! Best regards, J-Ray
Your videos are so amazing. So much information but also so digestable and enjoyable. Keep up the great work.
Man! That is beaitiful!!! I've been trying to figure out what knife I'm gonna do next, and this really helped. There are several things in this video I haven't tried before. Thank you so much for the quality content.
I like how you talk your way through it, unlike some other videos that just speed there way through it without any explanation, good job by the way...
I'd pay for a Knife like this, partially to have a cool knife, partially to have the video of how it was made like this.

I love that knife. For a crappy learning knife it sure turned out beautiful. I for one would be proud to have it in my camping kit. Please keep these videos coming they mesmerize me. Thanks
"Is what it is" Most beautiful knife I've ever seen XD
These two videos really helped me, I dont know if they are applicable, but they really helped me with drawing out stock and squaring up round stock
I think its a amazing knife from a old rusty car spring. Love the handle.
This is probably my favorite knife you have made so far. Thanks for the vid
you know how many videos i've searched looking for someone making a stacked leather handle in the style of the kabar or the camillus with the big nut as the handle tap? countless, countless hours. awesome video.
@Green Beetle One of my favorite videos of the year!!
Really digging that handle material, and the leather and brass look amazing with it. Always looking forward to your videos.
Beautiful results man. Love your work, glad to see you back!
Your attention to detail is fantastic, your patience must be saintly!
Excellent work as always. I've missed you and your work glad to see you back
Beautiful blade. Excellent craftsmanship, nothing to be ashamed of for sure
Fantastic job. Great usage of car scraps. I love the knife.
That tomato is gorgeous
In this video a master of the craft of knife making beats any knife i made in an exponential fashion while not even knowing the exact steel
You sir are an inspiration! Love your vids Sir. The Green Beetle forever! lol Its a beauty of a knife! keep it up.
This looks like a great all around kitchen knife to me.
"I don't know what it is..." It's a freaking fine knife! Great work.
the black epoxy as gap filler looks cool as hell its like a really thin black ring
That's a beautiful piece. I like the way the handel compliments the whole knife. Well done !!!!
Beautiful as usual! Thank you for the great content.

Great job, I love the shape of the blade and the handle they complement each other, that knife could be used for anything I can think of very versatile. Thanks for the video and the information.
I’m glad I stayed for the spittle! Great vid! Beautiful knife!
I don't see the issue with the leather. It's simply a design solution, that makes the knife more extraordinary and beautifull. ^^
Beautiful Knife and Very Functional!! Great Video! Liked !! Thank You!
Beautiful!! Very wonderful work all the way around!
Looks beautiful! Love the integral bolster
Looks amazing fine craftsmanship as always!
That’s quite an attractive knife. Lovely form and the handle looks very comfortable. 9/10 👍🏻
So glad you’re back! I was starting to suffer from beetle withdrawal. Glad to see you were able to overcome the dreaded knife proof 🍅
Hi mate I’ve watched this build 2 or 3 times and really enjoyed it every time,, it’s a great knife thanks for sharing......
This is pretty cool. In Nepal they make khukuris out of leaf springs so its cool to see it done with a coil spring too.
Beautiful knife. That shape looks great for the kitchen.
It definitely has personality. Great video!
Just a quick tip for drilling (mostly) round stock... load it in your chuck, then center your drill vice on the lowered work. Release the chuck, insert your drill bit and drill that center. As long as your pedestal drill doesn't have a ton of play you should be spot on every time.
love your honesty!
Stunning!
Loved it. Glad to see a new video!!
Gorgeous knife my man. Simply beautiful. Thank you for the video, cheers
Awesome video! Outstanding work!
Great job as always!
I’ve watched hours and hours of your videos. You do amazing work. Great job 👏👏
My favorite knife you've made. Is gorgeous
Nice knife and good job.
I love that you put a thumbnail at the end of you shaving with it!! Priceless!!! Great video man, as always!!
It is beautiful. To me it looks like a nice kitchen utility knife.
Awesome job! I liked it very much. Thanks!
Beautiful knife. Burch bark works so nice. I have used it to make a whole handle (50 pieces).
This goes to show that great big knives aren't the only game in town
I really like the handle, the wood and the rings great job.
another great video! always enjoy them
As usual fantastic work. I just forge welded on my first integral guard. thanks
Love watching these videos... I just finished my 1st integral(a collab someone else forged, I do all stock removal), it isn't as pretty as what you got, but for my 1st try, I'm pretty happy with it... Thanks for all the tips, been watching a while(even started doing videos too), alright, have a great day, keep up all the great work, take it easy...
Stunning knife and excellent video - thanks
I actually *love* the integral portion, and think it’s a particularly beautiful knife. Good job man, you got yourself a sub.
Looks great! Love it.
