In this knife making video we're tackling a complicated and beautiful damascus Japanese sushi knife. The knife is made from a beautiful high layer raindrop damascus that we make from scratch in the video. This is not a traditional or historically accurate build, it's simply my modern take on the piece. Enjoy the process and thank you for watching!

I commend you for two reasons, 1. The amazing work you do on these blades, 2. The fact that you can do all this in silence (minus the work noises of course)

I much prefer the silence and the sound of my work in my shop. It's like a getaway from the entire world, including music (which can be annoying to me) and everything else. The most peaceful time in my life is in the workshop.
He doesn't need to say a single word. I love him.
You see from the comments, people from all over the world loving this build! Great job brother!

Really a very nice blade. Think I would used a smaller angle for sharpening. Amazing Art work!
I love all the small considerations you make for safety. You (obviously) don't comment on them but seeing them in practice is wonderful!
Wow. Possibly the most interesting, successful raindrop Damascus I have every seen. Holy cow. Wonderful! Great video. Better technique.
Keaton, wow the fact that you even poured the fittings took this one over the top man! That raindrop pattern came out really well. I love that you have incorporated the new forging tools. I am excited to see what you come up with moving forward! A+ man, bravo
Damnnnnn your shop/skills has sure improved over the past few vids. You've taken it to the next level. Impressive
This feels like asmr...so tingly.
Bro I’m new to this channel and it just tripped me tf out seeing the press go from bottom up😂
What a beautiful piece great job
I am actually blown away by this
10:22 this already seems like a tradition in this chanel
Beautiful, beautiful knife! That raindrop fits really well! And I'm guessing that's an Amboyna Burl on the handle? Nicely done mate. You got some cool new toys I see! Congrats!
Love the raindrop Damascus!
You should really test them out on stuff I think seeing it cut or stab something would be incredible granted all the other smiths do that on their channels but I would enjoy it
Absolutely stunning. Beautiful work and amazing skills.
A beautiful work of art!
Fantastic work , Man . We want more interesting video like this .
A true master craftsman.
Love the detail in the prep. work, using a magnetic welding block to sand the metal.
Rain damascus, nice !!!
Master artisan level craftsmanship, Wish i had your skills Well done, man
I've seen how you've progressed with your work and lemme just say, that looks fantastic, nice work man :)
Challenge for you. Create a sword (type/style/design of your choosing) But it must be a sword. Here is where the challenge comes in. - 1: It must be made from sourced raw ores. 2: It must be practical and fully functional. 3: It must be a representation of ANY sword type that has been used in history.
9:38 amazing! I had no idea! Thx for the info 💕

Oohhhh!!!!!!! Raindrop Damascus!!! 😆 I always love how that turns out.
Well done..Great work
really amazing job! Lovely handle actually!
very nice chatoyance , bet it looks way better in person the glimmer is hard to catch or appreciate on camera , very nice work
Who else thought "Wow, nice wood dude" when he pulled that block out?
Great video! So much patience with the drilling

An inspiration, thank you.
Coolest video I’ve seen in a very long time hands down
A joy to watch

Excellent work!!
Amazing work!
I think the handle would have been WAY cooler more ergonomically shaped, but either way this is a super badass knife 🔪
i bet you could get one or two nice little paring knives from those offcuts
Is there any reason to not just bend the hot steel over on itself and join end and then bend again? Vs cutting in section and welding together? Or does that not work due to furnace size?
Great work. Love that handle. Would have been ill to see it with a metal butt cap, but its awesome as is.
All is cool, but pls tell me, for what u dropped stone holder in water?
Very nice your chopsaw I have the same one if you move your bracket up a little bit towards you instead of cutting off the back of the wheel we will cut off the middle don’t know if this helps just wanted to say thank you
Just asking a noob question but why go from the press to the power hammer? Beautiful work!
That looks fucking awesome
This is a masterpiece
Dude, I've never seen anyone do a short tang handle like that. How does the weight and balance compared to a longer tang knife? Looks beautiful by the way.
when i saw damascus in the title i thought it was alec steele lmao. im glad it wasnt him. too much talking for me.
So I have a question. Sometimes when I see these videos and you guys put them in the press I see what looks like an oil or residue squeshing out. What is that and why. I know the metal is about 1800 or so degrees
That is one amazing looking blade. What is the powder you put on during the heating process?
@FarawayForge

Thank you! It's household borax, it acts as a flux to keep the welding surfaces free of scale
Beautiful work, I’d like to have a knife like that one but I don’t care for sushi all that much. By the way a good tip for getting a better “raindrop pattern” is to use a variety of drill bit sizes thrown in at random.
Awesome video!!
imagine just having a chunk of 100 degree metal that could burn thru your body and then just chillin with it
Surival knife or karambit
Beautiful!!!
Belo trabalho e boas dicas continue passando seus conhecimentos obrigado . Mogi Guaçu S.P Brasil
I have to ask.... you go to the effort of forging your own stock, why not forge the blade to shape?
@georgegordonbrown9522
3 жыл бұрын
Didnt occur to you that it would habe didtorted the damascus pattern itself?
@giggidygiggidy4884
3 жыл бұрын
@@georgegordonbrown9522 I appreciate that it would change the pattern but that’s not really what my question was. I wanted to know why he didn’t forge to shape, there are ways to do so whilst still keeping an eye pleasing pattern.
what a stable forge you have....
This is a beautiful knife. Really enjoyable to watch your process, well done on the fantastic result

Man you should go in forged in fire show
A beautiful knife. I enjoyed the technique you used. A little constructed criticism, this is not a true japanese sushi knife. It's a great slicing knife in a Japanese style but the metal is not traditional. But it's still a great looking knife
Yer pretty sauv'e with that big blu monster! Nice job!
I think he is making rain drop Damascus Edit:- yes he is
Caution while filming welding, It can cause damage to your camera
handle material?
Can you do a flaming katana?Like the way you made the flaming sword before :)
Why does it seem he uses AC to weld his billet together?
@joshlego4775
3 жыл бұрын
Yea i said the same thing thats AC. Should have just floored it Autogenous on DC it works well for the billets ive made.
@FarawayForge
3 жыл бұрын
It's pulsed DC, just sounds weird when the footage is sped up
mesmerizing
Is the risk of warping the metal reduced cutting it that way or is it done for some other reason?
@FarawayForge
3 жыл бұрын
I cut the profile of the knife (instead of forging it) in order to maintain the pattern
@BomaniChisulo

@@FarawayForge Oh I can understand that but I was meaning for around 00:28. Not trying to take away from your work in anyway as it is a beautiful knife, I just don't really know anything about metal working.
@FarawayForge
3 жыл бұрын
@@BomaniChisulo Oh lol I cut it like that there just because it's the fastest tool I have to cut it!
What's the reason you repeatedly cut and soldered the steel together instead of just hot-folding it?
@FarawayForge

Just my preferred method, gives me more options to get rid of any cracks that may pop up. Either way is viable tho
