In this video, I construct the crest for the bronze gladiator helm. Various pieces of bronze sheet are shaped, polished and then riveted together to create the finished shape.

the sarcasm is thick
It is always a pleasure to watch you work your magik on metal. Concurrently it is humbling as I need another 50 years on earth (which I ain't got) to even approach your skill level. No apology required for employing the imperial system. It is used by real people in the real world and it got the Americans to the moon in '69. And no apology required for not being historically accurate. Tell me that the Roman armourers did not experiment with form and design and had a damn fun time in the process. Final thought: you'd best do a month of serious neck muscle exercises before you put that thing on your noggin.
Best Chanel about antic forging on youtube!! Thank you !
Needs Thakistry added...🤣🤣... Gorgeous!
Gladiator helmets were meant to be outlandish and spectacular, I'm sure the Romans would approve!
By now, without the typical extended brim of the gladiator helmet, it actually reminds me of a french cuirassier helmet from about 1870. Really beautiful, love it!
"For fun and profit, but no profit." That's pretty much all of my blacksmithing endeavors tbh
The fluting on the sides were definitely worth the effort. It looks much better than being completely unadorned. The weight, for a costume piece, is a bit heavy. But if it were being used in real combat, a lightweight helmet wouldn't absorb much force, so maybe the weight is OK?
Espectacular!!!!
Amazing as always, keep it going!
Awesome!!
I would love to see some videos about your day to day jobs as you describe them, that door is absolutely awesome! Greetings from Germany!

@@ThakIronworks wow! awesome, thank you very much!
annealing those rivets before use is a good advice, some have been laying in storage so long that they got harder then when new, after hammering and snapping to shape, they´re hard and strong enough.
Let's check out the door build
Love the extra hole in the T-shirt, anyone who’s spent a fair amount of time with an angle grinder knows how that happened

Hello there!
Leningrad Cowboys style helmet :)
Fantastic and realistic!
impressive!
looks awesome
The crest looks great and I think the fluted lines are definitely a good addition
Wow that crest looks incredible, really enjoy the flowing lines. I was internally shouting "why not just TIG weld it" to save weight and make it easier, but I forgot you were trying to use semi-historical methods. The rivets definitely look awesome I think it was worth the effort.
Awesome work ever thought of doing a death dealer helmet

Any tips for only heating using an oxy torch?

I always find that very tricky...easy to burn and destroy bronze....go weaker on the oxygen...hope that helps. a propane tiger torch is a safer option
