He did a cat pose at the end. Basically, with the body parallel to the water, you bring your feet together in front of you along with your arms, tuck your head in and pierce the water with the tip of your hands and your feet. It's a way to safely land either a failed dive or a trick jump without damaging yourself

@@rekaadang The contestants are standing shoulder to shoulder, and they just showed how much damage either of the blades could do. Unless the judges have teleportation skills they haven't mentioned, they're not stopping anything in time. That said: I very much doubt we'll ever see an enraged contestant try to put his weapon to use.

Something about this show is strangely wholesome. Its just a bunch of skilled guys who enjoy a craft taking the time to deliver high-quality products. And there's no drama and no filler, it's just good, clean destruction and craftmanship

Not exactly. Usually the weight is an extremis cause of loss when blades are equal. In this case, the handle of the losing one wasn't very well fit

They also said in the intro to the finals, this heavy blade. I got nervous when they said heavy side. But when Mr. Doug said hand fit great and the blade was quite balanced, it gave me hope. Plus, the guard going up, seemed to block part of the blade and less function, while the other guard did its job and wasn't to the point of impeding the main function

I like the balance and weight of Doug's blade but the handle and lesser force were major drawbacks. If Neil could get more and deeper grooves with his to reduce the weight, it would've been much better.

I don’t agree with you, that blade was made for non military personnel and weight plays a huge factor. This is the only time that I’ve seen so far that the judges voted for the heavier sword. I don’t understand at all

Blacksmiths are pretty used to sparks. They try to be careful, but mostly after a while most basic sparks don't phase them.

@Mirai*Santos though it was heavier, his handle didn't allow the sword to slide and turn in one's hand. Imagine using it in actual combat and the sword just keeps slipping in your hand, it won't be good, that's why the heavier sword won.

Exactly, both blades were done well but the hilt, handle and pommel/counter balance were clearly superior. That's the difference between having a blade and having a sword. The only reason lighter blades usually win is because they're easier to balance and don't require the grip to be overly refined for control. A properly balanced heavy blade with a comfortable grip has no issues in feel or control and can add more cutting power and even functionality depending on the purpose/intent of the weapon. The best weapon smith's know the blade is only half of the weapon.

By far my favorite part of every episode is watching Doug say “your blade will kill” with the biggest smile on his face.

When the two weapons are so close to eachother they dont give feedback at the end, you know both contestants did very well

This is like the only game show with the most little prize and yet with lots of skill and knowledge involve.

Yes, I was thinking about how a noble although might be versed in sword play would not have the athleticism to wield a blade that was heavy, but would be able to kill or lethally harm anyone at close range so speed was the limiting factor. Historically noblemen have had access to better blacksmiths and steel which leads me to believe the blade would have been light weight. Comming to my point is I believe a sharper lighter blade with less toughness, or better yet less strength be that metal fatigue or creep weakness. They not should have made lighter and thinner blades but apart from that they both deserved to win as there are merits in both blades. I would choose the handle of the winner with the blade if the looser.

I love how every single time a person loses a competition on this show they are like he made a better blade than me and he deserved to win like noone is mad at all

As a Hawaiian resident, I congratulate Neal on his win. I will congratulate both for having really good swords.

Been watching Neil's stuff on Instagram for a little while, so I was happy to hear that he won this competition. His win was well earned.

Watching that guy save his blade from bending brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye

Fun Facts: 1. The Cinquedea starred in a different episode, during which a contestant lost because the blade was too heavy for not placing enough fullers. 2. Neil has had problems with his blade being too heavy in a different episode. 3. A heavier blade may lose on its weight alone but it often loses due other associated issues like bad weight distribution or a duller edge. 4. A heavier blade has won before when the opponent's blade broke. 5. A heavier blade has won before when the handle was also too uncomfortable.

These contestants were really cool and charismatic. I think they both did very well but in the end it just came down to how sharp and durable the blade was. Both of these blades are pretty awesome

ChickenSnitchzel it would still be terribly flimsy, due to the blade not being structurally secured well to anything. It would also have no point as you can easily hide a small blade in your sleeves.

When they mentioned an Assassin's Creed sword in the title i thought they were gonna make Altair's sword. But they instead made the best dagger in AC2.

@@erikhawk8437 only in the first game. i don't think we get his dagger in any other game. we do find his sword though.

First time I've seen a heavier blade win. Wonderful pieces from both contestants either way.

There's quite some other cases (like the cutlass), but yeah, it's rare to see the heavier winning.

Two Really Likeable Humble guys doing amazing blades. Wow this was the Pinacle of this show

he won because even tho his sword is heavy, you still can wield it properly. The other sword may be lighter, but what does it get to you if you can't wield it because of the crappy handle

Usually the "Heavy" word is the word of death in this comp. I don't think I've ever seen a blade win where that word is used.

Peter T especially the signature of this sword is the fullers and the purpose of them are lighten the sword. Otherwise it is just a wide-blade sword

@@petert3355 Yep, though an equally important word is "balanced". Even a blade with a higher total weight can be easier to use if the weight is balanced better. The two words that are usually a death knell when put together are "forward heavy". There have been swords that have been disqualified on that alone, as in Doug picks up the sword and just says "nope, not even swinging that".

His son holds the sword and feels like "What's this amazing power"😂

One of the rare occasions where the heavier weapon won when they both passed all the tests. The other guy's handle much have been bad enough that they considered the heavy one easier to control.

Judges saw him doing the belly flop from that height. Thus the winner was selected 😂

So humble and the weapons looked really well made. Nice.

This is really interesting. Here you have two very good blades in their own merits-the kinda of thing that would, for a customer, come down to personal preference. A lighter blade that is easier to swing around, or a heavier blade that can deliver more power? Well done.

well. I've been playing Assassin's creed 2. and that was my main weapon I using mostly. but in forged in fire series. it's awesome to see em forge to a real thing on screen

I get that a lot

I believe Neal won for only two reasons. 1. His blade fit better in the judges hands. 2. His blade is more aesthetically pleasing. More so than Dan's blade.

does anybody know, is this an old episode? Assassins creed 2 (the person wielding it at 0:55 is Ezio from AC2) and was released in 2009 which in videogame terms is quite a long time ago - eventhough it still is my favourite assassins creed game

That's 11 years ago, the 1600's were 420 years ago. So 11 years looks pretty recent in comparison

I have to say, this is how judges are supposed to be. Nothing but constructive criticism, plenty of compliments, and they never insult or belittle any of the contestants. Bravo!
