It's crazy to think that not even a decade ago, you'd get a polybag as a GWP that you could find for $3 at Wal-Mart! In terms of remakes, I can't wait to see what LEGO might bring out for the 100th anniversary,

I disagree, there are no real black trees out there, they are always slightly brown. I would definitely have preferred a very dark brown.

No matter what your videos are I watch them because they are always quality.

@@CheeseyStudiosI think that’s when you know Lego hit a home run. All of their 90th anniversary sets released this year are phenomenal in the sense that both kids and adults are able to appreciate these sets both as toys, display models, and the history that is inserted in each of them. I myself grew up in the 2000s so I never played with any classic space or castle, nor was I ever into any of the modern versions of those themes. However, I absolutely adore these sets for the amount of care they put into them to bridge the gap between the younger fans and the older fans. Just 10/10 job from Lego. I cannot wait to see what kind of special sets/promotions they run for year 100!

Would love to see them do the outpost set. 6066. It was my most fun forestmen set. Both these sets mesh well together and it would make use of the more modern brick techniques to make the cave. The only issue is that it had all the different color torso printings. 6 figures total. I wonder if they would still do it with 6. And have the different printings. I always loved the blue and black ones.

Wow, we created such different videos about this set! 😅 I agree with your take here though - this set is wonderful and serves as a faithful update to an old classic. If only The Lego Group had chosen to release this as a purchasable set alongside the Galaxy Explorer and Lion’s Castle instead of muddling it as a “Gift” with Purchase. The way in which this set was released severely taints it and makes me worried we will see more like it in 2023… Don’t get me wrong - I want to see more classic sets recreated like this one, but I don’t want to see them all locked behind ridiculous GWP paywalls with a single week of availability. Great video, as always though! Your channel has simply exploded since I started following you a year ago. 😊

I do remember watching your video when it came out, what, nearly half a year ago now? I'm definitely a bit late to the party, ha! I'm so glad you made the video you did though. The release for this was a mess and I prayyyy we don't see similar things in the future, but I think we know how that'll go.... What's louder in LEGO's ear - the GWP backlash or the sound of all that sweet sweet cash they made off the botched release? This easily would have been my favorite set of the year if people could actually realistically get their hands on it. Is the castle 'line' (if I can dare call it that) going to be confined to expensive models like the Blacksmith and Lion Knights' Castle and crazy GWP thresholds from now on? I sure hope not.

@@CheeseyStudios it actually might be the plan of Lego, to only release such sets behind big gwp paywalls or super expensive sets. Because there are a lot diehard fans who definitely want these no matter the money, but if there would be cheaper alternatives they'd go for the cheaper ones.

I would kill to be able to have the opportunity to redesign/remake such a perfect classic set for the LEGO group.

I have this set! It was a gift from a friend along with the set it came as a gwp with. I agree the building process was so much fun and it captures the classic lego essence so well while also showing how far they’ve come.

I unfortunately couldn't get this when I bought the Lion Knight's Castle because it had been sold out. (Dang scalpers..) but I do admire it all the time. It's beautiful. I'm most likely going to get it off the secondhand market.

While I personally liked the Cosmic Cardboard Adventures GWP from earlier this year in May quite a lot more than this because I really like space themed stuff, this was still a nice GWP to throw into my August 1st purchases & it brings a nice commanding green to the edge of one of my shelves which is dominated by the trans dark pink of the Ninjago Crystalized sets. I’m really excited for the rumored Blacktron remake GWP next year though as I have the series 19 CMF Blacktron character.

I havnt seen any vids on your channel covering the atlantis sets. Maybe I was one of the few that really enjoyed those sets, they were released when I was about 7, the sea creature designs were always interesting to me.

In my country this GWP was 'sold out' / no longer available after the first day of the second time it appeared. I didn't manage to pick it up, wanted to buy the Lion Knights Castle to get this but because it wasnt available anymore when the castle was available to buy (day 4 of the promo) I passed on buying the castle already. Gotta wait for another reeeally good gwp if I ever buy the castle..

Love this promo and could not resist it! I assembled my original alongside it. Love the modernization, BUT, the blue roof on the promo falls off too easily AND my baseplates keep falling off. This could have easily been prevented with a couple small pieces so I don’t understand the build in those two areas.

It's amazing for sure. I know it's a bit steep for a smaller set, but you can pick one up for about $40. @@CheeseyStudios yeah. The problem is that I live 2 U.S. states away from the nearest LEGO store in every direction (except North, because that's Canada). I would have to go to either Minneapolis, Minnesota, Seattle Washington, or Denver Colorado. I visited the Denver store once while visiting my sister for Thanksgiving 2020, so I have the Charles Dickens Christmas Carol set. However the Pick-a-Bricks wall was closed because it was Black Friday during a Pandemic. Also, the Mos Eisley Cantina was out of stock. I saved up my money specifically for that set, and it was cleaned out lol

While this was a great GWP and my favorite of all time, the release was one of the most botched I have ever seen by LEGO in my opinion. Should not have made this available until the Lion Knight's Castle was released. I could not realistically afford to spend the $150 to get this GWP when it was available in June because I was saving up for the $400 Castle in August. And the GWP was sold out when the Castle was released.

For my personal taste, this set isn't very appealing at all. The colours feel mismatched, there's no break between any of the black elements, it just looks like a big black silhouette with some leaves on it. But for what it is - an update of the classic - its excellent. The parts usage modernizes the look drastically, but notably keeps the entire essence of the original intact and improved. I think the unfortunate part is that they released this as a gift with purchase instead of as a stand alone set. Lego really needs to revive the castle theme. Not to bash on Lego city builders, but we've got way too many AFOLs building city layouts and not enough building castles (or other fantastical themes), at least as far as I can tell.
