Forest are RIGHT! So is Mark! Corruption in English Football?

Спорт

A look at the disastrous refereeing this weekend in the Premier League and FA Cup which has led to the incredible statement by Nottingham Forest and by Mark Goldbridge. Is English football corrupt? Are the Premier League referees corrupt? Why do the football media protect the corruption? Why is English football any different when it comes to greed and corruption compared to other countries?

In my mind, it is not even a matter of the mistakes. What disgusts me is the belief that no error, not matter how atrocious, is likely to result in any meaningful negative repercussions for those involved. PGMOL is 100% about protecting mates and 0% about having understandable professional standards to be upheld. It is not that I feel the need to see referees sacked. But habitually apparently doing nothing about extremely bad calls has allowed the standards to drift downwards with no bottom in sight. What disgusts me is the belief that it is going to get worse before it gets better, and a whole lot of people who should know better and are in positions of power are going to pretend otherwise, including most pundits.

And how come that the Forest and Everton offences got charged so quickly but with Man. City, it seems to just drag on? I think they're waiting for the end of the season when the FA can't dock them points, but just give them a meaningless and pathetic fine instead.

It's time for all football fans, regardless of what team you support to campaign, for VAR to be abolished and put our faith back into the sporting pride and integrity of the 3 men in black! I don't see how the public can verify these VAR calls because we have to use their evidence to define it. For example, In the Coventry-United game, when i saw Coventrys 4th goal live, i thought it was onside. When i saw a still shot of the incident, i still thought it was onside. Then the magic line gets drawn from VAR and its offside. Clearly, something like that can be adjusted & the adjustment only seen by VAR officials. Given who was involved, and the financial benefits of United qualifying, i just assumed corruption. When you get to a point where you just assume corruption, it means the public have lost trust in the sport.

It isn't though. I drew my own lines on my own screen (not literally of course), and sure enough he was JUST offside. So maybe he had to say that. As for Dermot Gallagher, I always think he looks very uncomfortable sometimes on Ref Watch. He knows he is a puppet but those numbers....... As for Michael Oliver, he has his own suite over in the ME. The case of managers criticising refs started at the very beginning of the season with Klopp. I remember him saying if he made more comments, his bank balance would suffer. Farke at Leeds is on record as saying Leeds have received 8 apology letters from PGMOL this season for incorrect calls by referees. If those 8 incorrect calls cost Leeds 1pt each then that is the difference between already being promoted to £100+mill in the EPL and living in fear of being in the CS playoffs. The reality is the TV companies don't want a procession to the title but a close finish. Its good for the viewing figures. They have that this season in both the top two divisions. Coincidence? You also have to ask why PGMOL is independent of the FA/EPL and not a department of the FA. Could it be the FA knew what was coming and wanted deniability. Can't see any other reason for PGMOL being an independent org.

Well, that VAR official failed spectacularly under that harsh bright light. The situation was easily avoided. Avoided by changing the assignment. Avoided by the VAR official bothering to be even a little bit competent on that day. I do not blame Forest a bit for running with the narrative handed to them on a silver platter. The corruption is flagrantly obvious. Team positions and outcomes of games are manipulated by their decisions. It is manifestly unfair and corrupt to impose points deductions mid season and particularly towards the end of the season. Especially so when there is no way of fairly assessing the number of points to be deducted. To then change that number after imposition is absurd beyond belief. These things should be obvious to anyone but are deliberately ignored. There are after all, other ways to sanction financial breaches that do not involve rigging team positions. All this with the backdrop of 115 breaches of financial regulations that involve deliberate concealment by Man City. We already know there is a strong correlation between money and trophies which in itself is a form of corruption and quite obviously unfair. That is one reason why Leicester winning the Premier league was so popular, because they did it without buying it. We all know that Arab money has far too mush influence upon football, indeed upon the nation and it is very probable that government secretly urges not to punish corruption involving Arab money for fear of reprisal. Arab nations have not shown themselves models of integrity. The inconsistency of decisions is flagrantly obvious but it is even worse because some decisions are actually made against the existing rules. The process of the decisions also often does not follow their own stated procedures. This would be easily actionable at law so why hasn’t it been? All that is needed is to prove on the balance of probabilities and the resulting damages would bankrupt these corrupt people and bring an end to their corruption. The only problem is it might also in the short term, bring an end to professional football. They would have us believe they make mistakes but when those mistakes are admitted there is no remedy applied which simply shows they are deliberate and can get away with them with impunity. The integrity of the game is lost and the results have now lost their meaning. There is so much wrong with the way football is managed by the authorities, space forbids detail but those authorities refuse change because they want it so, in order to be able to continue their corrupt manipulation. Although the technology of VAR is a great advantage, the way it is operated is to better enable interference in results. That is obvious.Simple changes to prevent that are absolutely resisted. Within games there is still great appreciation for the skills displayed and the high class performances by teams and individuals but the results have become meaningless. There is also much that is wrong in terms of professional fouls and dishonest play which also mars the game. Sadly money has ruined the game. That cries out to be addressed. There is far, far too much money in the game. In all walks of life much money is always attended with corruption. Is football really the one shining exception???!!! Limits on players wages, eligibility, money spent by clubs, transfers mid season except for loans, all these and more should be restricted. All teams should be put on a level competing basis so as to throw emphasis upon character, team spirit, ability, and sportsmanship which are the aspects that make football such a great game. And other ruining aspects such as political interference, social engineering/woke culture and other things have not even been mentioned. Money has ruined football.

The Everton Forest game gave Attwell 3 VAR decisions to make. The Rayna penalty call would have been given to any one of the big six clubs. The other two were clear penalty calls - Young's arm fully extended and stopping the ball falling to Wood stood just behind him with an easy tap-in, and then the dangerous slide tackle by Young to take out Hudson Odio. Referees get away with changing games by citing their 'error' as a mistake. How can anyone cite three mistakes out of three calls as an error. It's not! it's an obvious bias/corrupt decision, especially when the VAR ref has minutes to analyse slo-mo video footage from various angles, before making a decision.

The seniority system of English football referees is to blame. Rugby League referees do a training course similar to what a paratrooper would do and the top refs are in their 20s. In English football, the so-called top refs are always older because they don't want the best at the top. The seniority system is to blame. They are untouchable. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are biased. I would just say we don't have the best refs at the top. It's more ineptitude than anything else. You're spot on that the likes of Carragher (who should be fired after spitting on a fan) and Neville are part of a media cult. In the USA, Robbie Earle says the same thing. I agree. IMNSHO the other problem is the PGMOL is a cozy bunch of mates who love officiating on the pitch and despise working the VAR booth. They have been footdragging about putting any real effort into getting good at VAR duties for years -- they cannot be bothered, especially because becoming genuinely good at VAR might annoy their mate on the pitch. If the the Tottenham-Liverpool disallowed goal 'eff up had happened in 2019 or 2020, I might cut them some slack. What the audio of that event showed us is they are just bunch of chickens with their heads cut off in the booth in late 2023. @@ComradeOgilvy1984 it's appalling mate. The ineptitude of English referees has been a thing all the 6 decades I've watched football. It's clear that the powers that be don't want to improve the situation. I could write a book on it. Look no further than the farcical timekeeping in football. Other time sensitive sports start and stop the clock. They added that "added time" board as a way of getting rid of "Fergie time" but how has that helped? The ref still adds on a random amount of time! You can watch a dozen games and you could never accurately predict the added time. And how can added time always be a rounded off increment of a minute? My #1 sport is rugby league. We don't have any of these issues in that sport and fans know to within 1 second when the game will end. In fact, the timekeeper is an external official so the man in the middle doesn't even need to be concerned with time.

The EPL is bent, but refereeing is the least of the issues. Look at how the Big Six have gerimandered the financial rules (changes to FFP), look at how the Big Six influence the fixtures, look at how the Big Six influence the rules (so they can have £100m available talent on the bench), look at how the Big Six even change the rules to the FA Cup potentially bankrupting small clubs. I've followed Sheff Utd since 1970 and had relatives play for the Blades in the 60s. I've had a gut full of corrupt football - of turning up (and paying) to watch an unfair contest where the billionaire owners of the opposition in practice bought the results during the transfer window. I pay to watch sport - a fair contest between similar sides. That's no longer the EPL, so I now go to watch cricket on Saturdays instead. I have better things to do and to spend my money on than the predetermined EPL.

As I see it, the PGMOL is corrupt insofar that they cannot be bothered to be competent at their VAR duties. Such a debacle was accomplished by years of continuous professional neglect by everyone in the PGMOL. PGMOL is a bunch of mates protecting mates who love officiating on the pitch and despise VAR duties. Being genuinely competent at VAR risks annoying your mate on the pitch, and so they do not care to make a real effort. If the Tottenham-Liverpool debacle occurred during the teething pain period of 2019 or 2020, I might afford PGMOL a degree of leniency. VAR is and always was and will continue to be an accident waiting to happed due to the lack of professionalism of the PGMOL. They are really bad a VAR duties, and it is not going to improve. Listen to the audio. They are a bunch of panicky chickens with their heads cut off in the booth, when asked to perform the simplest and most common VAR check possible. It is not a mystery why the results of a review seem completely random when they have more than one thing to check. They suck at their jobs.

@@analoguearchives4578 I would point out that the official on the pitch gave Curtis Jones a yellow card for his foot sliding over the ball -- VAR intervened because it was allegedly a "clear and obvious error to not award red". VAR did more than enough to decide the result on that day, even if we cut them some slack for the offside call. I said at the time that I was absolutely sure that nobody would believe it was "clear and obvious" Curtis Jones deserved a red there by the time 2024 rolled around. Looking around at a lot of worse fouls being no calls for "mysterious reasons", I would say I was proven correct.

Remember when Cantona drop kicked the racist bloke and every single pundit or talking head, or former player all feigned outrage and clutched their pearls about how awful it was? About how they screamed that this was the worst thig they had ever seen? How they said Cantona should never play again and he was a disgrace? What Cantona did was the single greatest thing in the history of modern sport. He was a genuine hero and 99% of all fans said it at the time and still say it now. He drop kicked a racist. HE was right. None of this 'well he was maybe right, but..'. Although the circumstances are totally different, it's the same here. What Forest have said is the equivalent of drop kicking useless refs and the whole clown show of the Premier League in the face and it's about time someone did it. Neville and his crony mates can pretend to be outraged as much as they like, but days after they banned FA cup replays and after the 5,000 dodgy VAR decision and teams getting away with FFP whilst other teams who file their accounts a bit late get punished, and Chelsea selling themselves hotels and unaccountable officials and whiny pundits and lines drawn on the pitch and the game stopping for ten minutes and then restarting with nobody any the wiser, each one of these death by a thousand cuts, someone has finally drop kicked the FA in its stupid face. About time.

At this point it can only be one of two things incompetence or corruption. If we asked the top officials from the EPL to review each of these calls without previous knowledge of the in game decision they would struggle to get 50% of them to match, so either the training for these officials leaves so much gray area that they are basically left with a coin flip to decide the outcome or there is some sort of corruption going on, either way the league with the most revenue in Europe should demand better of its referees. Secondly, can any of us say VAR has made the game better, do we really need to disallow a goal because some was an inch offside? Just ditch the whole thing, keep goal line technology and ditch VAR.

  • @thetopfootycoach

The refereeing is disastrous every weekend. It annoys me how the world of social media pundits just pick out one or two matches where they feel the pgmol have crossed a line. In reality they have bent the rules so far out of shape that referees can interpret any given action on the pitch any way they like. You see it when so many fouls are given then a ref lets one slide on the grounds it isn't a heavy enough contact and he is doing us a favour letting the game flow for once. The first penalty claim for Forrest is one that Everton and Watford had denied many times when they had Richarlison. He used to get a yellow card for diving for it too. Also one of the examples in the above footage a ball blasted at a player from less than a metre away and you want a penalty for that. For Forrest to say Attwell is against them because he is a Luton fan is mad. A Luton fan would surely look at the table and fixtures and see Everton have Liverpool Arsenal and a trip to Luton in the run-in. An Everton win wasn't any use to Luton. They know the blues must surely drop points in two of those matches unless that closet Evertonian Attwell can do something about it. If Everton had dropped points against Forrest then Luton would merely have had to defeat Everton at home to ensure they finish above them.

So pleased P(lastic) League clubs are raising their "Most affordable" season tickets to a grand. If any lingering real fans dont like it,well, bugger off then, your plastic club has a queue of plastic sports franchise fans to take your place (when will THEY take the hint they're not wanted) Wouldn't watch a tedious sports franchise game for any money.
