Greggs is nice and reliable. If you find yourself in a strange town you know what you're getting when you go to Greggs and honestly it's going to be more than half decent, even if not as exciting as you might get from a local baker. I'd go to a local bakery first but I'm not going to turn my nose up at Greggs. The vegetarian sausage rolls are also well worth trying even if you are a carnivore (as I am).

I'm in the north so it's almost required to like Greggs. We even have a Greggs drive-through up here. I don't like coffee, but I once had some Portuguese coffee-aficionado friends come to visit me, and they insisted on trying every coffee shop that they didn't have in Portugal, and Greggs actually got the nod as the best one.

As a formerly puzzled American l’m so glad to finally find out what a Greggs is. I’ve seen them loads of times on Google Street View and for some reason it never crossed my mind that it could be food. I thought it could be a stationery shop, convenience store, book shop…baked goods never crossed my mind. I checked their website and I wouldn’t mind trying a few things there if I ever visit the UK again.

I don't hate Greggs, but I regret that a year or so after they moved into my small town, two excellent family-run bakeries went out of business. Their pies, pasties and sausage rolls were much better than Greggs and, despite being smaller companies, they had a wider range of cakes, pastries and bread. Greggs was slightly cheaper, but not dramatically, so I guess it was the Greggs brand-name that drew the customers, especially the younger generation, and the smaller shops couldn't compete in the end. Such a shame!

Trying to work out where Greggs was in Rainham, then I saw the Tesco store sign. Got it. So that's where it is. Wetherspoon is easier to find.

It's definitely at least a rung up the ladder from Spoons! I don't mind a Greggs but I wouldn't say I love it.

Never seen a Greggs as there isn't one here on the Isle of Wight, mind you we are so far behind the times we only got our first Burger King a couple of years ago.

Just in case you didn’t know. Iceland sell Greggs products. 8 Greggs Sausage rolls for a fiver. They were £3.75 about a year ago but Iceland decided to take advantage of the cost of living crisis and increase the price by over 30% admittedly, they did it in increments but even so. Anyway, if you do fancy a sausage roll every now and then. It saves having to go to Greggs every time. By the way. They take 25 minutes at gas mark 5/6. Do not follow the cooking instructions on the box unless you want them burned.

Greggs is not so bad and there’s always one handy no matter where you are in the UK, but this is the commercial side of bakery foods. This brand came from the little shops that every town and city had in the uk, we still have a lot of the wee private bakers in Scotland and I would visit them before Greggs if one’s handy. My goto is defo sausage rolls although they are not as good as they once were, great video thanks

Greggs are obviously doing something right, as their ever-expanding empire shows, but they don't offer anything that wouldn't be tastier from your local bakery. It's really a triumph of marketing profile and careful choice of location.

I have never been into a Greggs until recently because I hate flaky pastry. Although it is very nice for sweet pastries with cream in them, it's just dire for a savoury item. My brother drove me to a hospital appointment 60 miles away and pulled into a Greggs for a snack on the way. I went in just for a pee. I recently learned that the toilets are always to the right in Greggs and that was true. To get there I had to fight my way through a very long queue inside. Tim Martin may be controversial, but he is the typical English eccentric, which is a unique feature of this country. He is not afraid to say what he thinks even if it loses him trade. I too am a Brexiteer, but even I thought his contribution to the debate was over the top, and yes, eccentric.

I'm like you, they are not the best but I would still get lunch there if that was what there was. It is an old established bakery in Newcastle but I think they only became a national firm within about the last 15 years or so. I do tend to get a sausage roll but also some kind of cake such as bread pudding, an Eccles cake or a doughnut.

When I moved to the south coast in the mid 90s there were no Gregg's down here. The cheapest cheese and onion pasty in a local bakery was £1.00, whereas in Gregg's in Durham it was 41p. I had worked in London before moving here and there was a Gregg's in Wandsworth, where a cheese and onion pasty was 55p. I thought that I was being ripped off. One Christmas after visiting home I brought a load of Gregg's pasties and stotties back for my poor, deprived southern friends to try.
