Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo Gr. 5 OnBoard Laps at Mugello Circuit!

Jump on board the beautiful orange Jägermeister Ford Zakspeed Capri of @breittracing for a couple of qualifying laps around Mugello Circuit, fielded in the Classic Endurance Racing 2 (CER 2) series and driven by Emile Breittmayer! My friend @Italiansupercarvideo and I recorded this car during the last two editions of the Mugello Classic historic racing weekend by @peterautoracing.
Definitely my all time favorite Group 5 car, the Zakspeed Capri is a 850 kg race car featuring a Ford Cosworth BDA (modified by Zakspeed) 1.75-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which in its last evolution was able to produce around 600hp at 9,000 rpm and 482 Nm of torque at 6,800 rpm.
Huge thanks to Emile, Breitt Racing and Zakspeed mechanic for their kindness allowing us to record some on board footage of this jewel.

These types are my favourite looking race cars. Street car body but huge race flared extensions and super wide tyres. Just awesome 👌

There isn't much left of the street car body, only roof, and parts of the pillars.
Group 5 was such a fantastic era and I was lucky enough (or old enough) to see it in period, including the Zakspeed Capri's the one time they came to the UK. Fantastic cars, all flames, noise and no enough downforce, which is just what you need for fun and excitement.

@@AndyFromBeaverton Both great an Group 2, this is just one awesome Zakspeed Capri though. The Ford Cosworth BDA 1.75-liter 4 cylinder turbo sings, love hearing it being warmed up ready to go out an sit pretty. This an the Ford Capri RS3100 Cosworth V6 GAA are my go to Lap music tracks 😉

@@chris425amp7 We used to watch Trans Am during the 70s and 80s. Those cars were so fun to watch. Never got a chance to see Group 5 or B.

Totally agree. I used to watch US GT racing in the late '70s early '80s...with the Monzas, Corvettes, and BMWs and such chasing the 935s. Nothing today even comes close. All the Group 5 cars raced in IMSA "GTX" category.
Got Damm, I love this video, I can so relate, I had a 1977 V-6 Ford Capri, lowered, Headers, with a dual Anza exhaust tips, my license plate said, HummV-6. Also had a 1978 VW Scirocco. At 75 years young I've been driving a 2014 Fiesta ST since new, it has 105,000 miles on it, with a Cobb stage two Tune, short shift kit, motor mounts, and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport tires, street legal Go-Kart. Awesome in car video. The Fiesta Flash.

Die Gruppe 5 Autos als Autos ohne Schnick Schnack zu bezeichnen ist aber auch schon etwas hart, wenn man bedenkt, welche Register gezogen worden sind um die Autos zu bauen. Die Gruppe 5 war irgendwann so teuer und es kam absolutes High End Material zum Einsatz.

Because back then you could do what you wanted. People only cared about maximum speed. Now theres too many rules.

Left foot braking is to set pads from knock back.

That foot cam still exists in NASCAR, but only on road course races at Sonoma, Watkins Glen, Road America, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, Charlotte Roval, Daytona Road Course, Circuit of The Americas, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and the Chicago Street Course.
It's amazing that anyone could get a turbo 4 cylinder to sound so good. My poor Audi S3 sounds horrible in comparison. The only solution is to get a Zakspeed car for my daily driver. Cheers to another great video, Bozzy! You take care of the car community so well.

Go for it...cut your downpipe, raise the boost pressure to 1,5 bar and rev it up to 9500rpm.... good luck!😉

4 cylinder engines actually have great potential to sound great. You just need the right mods. Depending on where you live and what's allowed there, you could make a S3 sound great.

Motorcycles is what you need, friend. Inline 4 engines sound great when you get the right exhaust kit, and no internal engine work required. Plus they are extremely fast

Der Turbo Capri war ist und bleibt legendär. Ich kenne einige Lackierungen vom Turbo Capri. Aber die Jägermeister Lackierung ist definitiv die schönste. Die passt wie die Faust aufs Auge. Es gibt einige Legendäre Autos im Rennsport Porsche 917 Porsche 935 Porsche 962 Ford GT 40 Audi Quattro Ford Capri Turbo

Zakspeed invented a cooling system for the pistons in this turbo engine , it consisted of a separate oilpump sending a stream of oil up under the pistons thereby helping with keeping the temparatures down - this system is now in use in the diesel engines from Peugeot and Citroën and many more

Piston cooling jets have been in production turbo engines since at least the mid 80's. Porsche may have even had them in the 70's for the flat 6 turbo engines.

What a great vid to watch early on a wet Thursday morning..:)) The Ford Capri was my favourite car when I was child. I think this car is now one of my favourite cars as an adult. How can you not just love it for everything it is, handling, style, looks & power. Just awesome!!

This specific one is very new actually, Zakspeed is licenced to build replicas of their older race cars, I was lucky enough to see this one built and even helped a bit with detailing some of the lexan pieces. This car would be 1,5 to 2 years old now since construction began

I had a Zakspeed Capri model as a kid, but I think this is the first time I've seen some decent quality onboard footage. Now safe to say it wasn't all show and no go, Man that thing is seriously quick, sounds superb too!

That was awesome. That car sounds so nice. I would love to drive that track in real life. I've driven hundreds and hundreds of laps on it in Forza. Such a nice flowing circuit.

That's a great 4 cilinder sound. 😊 Pops and bangs when he lift off are 🤤. The camera mount could be a bit more rigid.
My dad had a white capri,when I first met him,he had a bright (fleuro)yellow 318/20..after that back then..Besides meeting him the fact he had these machines then I knew was special..I would get him to take me out everytime we saw each other.I have had a Bm,hope they bring another capri out,or get to drive an old one at some point.Subscribed,wicked video!

Buff.. ese capri...brutal...lo dicho...en los 70...no habían de Scalextric...ya en los 80..los hacía de maquetas de armar en escala 1/24 para slot...y ya en los 90 compré mi primer capri III ...en el 96...brutal...con llantas 16 bbs adaptadas de mercedes...16x9...y bajado...era motor 2000 y 4 cilindros...grandes recuerdos...luego capri 3000...todos los ke pillé estaban destrozados..pero con trabajo..los sake...muy wapos...ahora kien los pillara...jaja...de todos modos tengo Mustang 73..V8...jaja sorry...un saludo a todos...y disculpen...y sigo esperando más vídeo wapos como siempre...😁👍

The Zakspeed Ford based engine later went into rallycross with huge success into cars like the Escort Xtrac.

I'm don't know how you can "see" what a shifter feels like, but, if you're referring to the way it shimmies side to side, it's because it is sticking directly down through the top of the tranny, which being on a rubber mount, along with the engine, moves side to side under acceleration, and deceleration. It's a top loader shifter. Probably pretty accurate shifter actually.

@@hugejohnson5011 If you looked at the start up, you would notice that the engine is solid mounted. They also ran a Getrag 5 speed.

@@MrDavee1 I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing that out. Then, where does the shifter mount? Tranny can't be moving around at all if the engine is solid mount. Bellhousing would break. I'm not familiar with where the shifter mounts.

The driver has probably suffered a catastrophic brake failure in the past. He’s just setting the pads tight to the discs before he hammers the brake pedal for real .
Are three 2 turbos to reduce lag?
Zakspeed developed a series of winning cars across several race classes. Group 5 and Rallycross i am pretty sure they used a version of the same Power plant in the equally successful Rally Cross MK3 escort .
