Joe's question about the government covering for a possible shortfall was irrational and misplaced, as well as politically motivated. The past support of automotive plants, due to a black swan event, has nothing to do with the topic. Yes, the contract seems to be on a rather high side, but that's a different topic that requires more detailed analysis on a different occasion. I frequently find Joe's opinions and comments biased and based on his political views, not to mention that, in many cases, they are not very insightful.

Even more for those who were on wage tiers below assembly. With COLA this purchasing power is locked in, so inflation is now irrelevant.

I care about all persons, especially the working class people, I am very suspicious at the timing of this strike. I am glad it is drawing to an end. I love my American made vehicles/ American owned companies and want workers to be well paid. But, I digress. I participate in and support major street protests and pickets that try to better lives for the 99%. But no more. Why? It occurs to me that most, if not all, major street protests and pickets tend to favor the political party that seems to stand for the “ little guy” - ergo Democrats. Wide sweeping major street protests and pickets are tools for re-electing beleaguered Democratic incumbents, especially the POTUS with low approval ratings facing tough (re)elections. This strike is highly suspect. I surmise it is setting the tone for more to come over the next 10 months or so. We Americans have been and are royally played. I am no longer participating in sweeping protests and pickets occurring during the months leading up to a POTUS election. These tools of political manipulations no longer affect this voter.

Yes, still another sellout deal with the much dreaded temporary and multiple tier systems remaining in place. In addition, a 25% wage increase over 5 years was nothing considering that inflation had risen at least that much since the last sellout contract. In fact, that was a huge stepdown from the 40% wage increase that Shawn Fain was originally demanding. Yeah, a meager starting wage of $28.00/ hour was thrown into the sham deal as well, and not to mention the absence of any pension plan. I can just imagine how those working in the battery plants will fare. Quite predictably, these UAW auto workers will be cajoled as before into approving yet another sellout contract.
