    Your shots from behind the spreader reminded me of an old joke an equipment salesman once told to my dad -- I was just a kid of about 9 or 10 at the time and thought it was hilarious but it was probably an old joke even then some 50 years ago -- he said, "we stand behind every piece of equipment we sell, except the manure spreaders" . Thanks for the memories.

    Many farmers are doing just that. At our local fall consignment sale in October, usable equipment from the 70s-90s was going for strong money. Even an old 1066 International that needed at least an engine overhaul and new rubber went for $7500.

    Jason, really enjoyed this video and thank you for taking the time to make it. To me, there is something very evocative about the sight, and especially the smell (which I love - yes I'm wierd), of well rotted manure being spread. It takes me straight back to when my dad was alive and slurry was not even a thing. All of our cattle were bedded on straw and the main heap was straight behind our milking parlor so any waste passed by the milkers was scraped into a trailer and it was my job to take it and tip it each day, and push the heap up every 3 or 4 days, come rain, snow or sun, birthdays or christmas day. I loved it then and I miss it now. I still believe to this day that proper manure (instead of slurry) is better for the fields as you have the extra fiber content from the half rotted straw. Manure, spreading, fresh cut grass, combining and damp earth from (proper mouldboard) ploughing are the scents of farming to me.

  • @bigtractorpower

    @bigtractorpower

    2 жыл бұрын

    They are definitely the smells of the farm and the country side. When I was very young I remember large piles of manure on local dairy farms. I remember the first time I saw liquid manure on a local dairy and thought what is that. That farm was kind of cool because they had a Hesston liquid spreader which backed down a ramp into the pit and self filled.

    I know a guy with 3 early 70’s Ford tractors. He told me he picked up all 3 for the price of one used 4020 and has worked them for 30 years. He is a cheap bastard, but he gave each of his 3 kids 1000 acres of land, and he’s still farming his 800. His kids together have to be up to 10-15k acres now. They really get after it. Their dad sold some patents and got out of engineering early, and bought a farm in the early 90’s, raised his kid there.

    We use a Ford 1910 MFWD with Ford 770 end loader around our farm. It’s not big tractor power by no means, but it’s handy little tractor power. We use it primarily for all end loader work, and brush hogging operations. And I don’t care what company made a manure spreader, it’s just one thing a company won’t stand behind :D!

    The 1910 is a nice tractor. I have a 1/16 scale FORD 1710 on display in my office. A dairy down the road from my parents had a 1910 just like yours with the Ford loader. They had manure forks on it and it was used to clean up after the cows. They also used a 7000 and 5000 Ford for plowing, disking, harrowing, planting, haying and chopping. Their 1910 was their newest tractor and worked year round. It’s a handy tractor for sure.

    Great video! The best part about that tractor is that it has a muffler on it yet! LOL at the binder twines wrapped on the beaters slapping around! brings back memories, binder twine wrapped on the rear beater is like a tradition, maybe even a requirement for dairy farms haha. This is weird though. I mean this tractor was the BIG guns when I was still farming. Manure duty was for the old tricycle tractor when I was young, and for the semi retired 40 or 50 horse chore tractor when I was a bit older, especially during the warm months. But times change, you could fit the entire spreader I used, even towards the end of things, inside the one that guy is pulling haha. the one we used when I was a kid you could probably put the whole thing plus the IH H we pulled it with inside haha.

    Hi! I'm from Poland. I want to buy a Ford tw 30. I have a few questions about this tractor. how does driving on dual power look like, can you drive all the time or only when under heavy load? What are the biggest disadvantages of this tractor? And most importantly, what to look for when buying (what breaks down the fastest and is expensive to repair)

    @bigtractorpower, a question. Do you ever get correspondence with Australian agri fans/content creators? Just asking as in 2022, it'll be about then that the worlds largest air drill (used by the Zell farm) will be brought out of storage to be used. The ground out there is so dry, it has to be laid fallow for 3 years to allow moisture buildup, before planting can be performed in one go. Hence the need for a very big drill. It was last used in 2019, going by previous footage. It would be great if we could see a lot more footage of it in action, but that would require youtuber collaboration Down Under.
