Ford Select o Speed Transmission Differences

Not all Select o Speeds are the same. The early 1959 models had some faults with them and Ford replaced them under warranty. Newer models were upgraded and were more durable and better but the damage was done and they had a bad reputation. I show how to tell the early models from the newer ones and what one of their issues was. Thanks For Watching

To add to this information. The early SOS Direct drive clutch was a roller clutch. Later are hydraulic. Early only a a suction screen for transmission pump, later had an replaced filter and oil cooler. The speed selector on the Early SOS has red dangle lines on the speed sections that have no engine. braking

What problem are you having with the transmission?
Had a sector speed in a Ford 4000 bought in 1972 here in Australia. I never had any real problem with it at all. Serviced regularly it ran like a dream on the dairy farm cutting , raking bailing hay and sowing 100 acres of crop each, which some was cut for hay . year till 1994 6800 hours on it, it did a lot of work . Swapped it out for a manual gearbox in 1994 because it was too expensive to rebuild and hard to get parts for . Underrated gearbox

What did you do with the SOS 'box that you took out ? Theres a lot of guys out there that would like to get hold of it

@daneenmurf1043 it seized up was cheaper to put a manual gearbox box on it than get it repaired, expecially in the middle of making hay . I the mechanic who was going to repair swapped it for part payment on a rebuilt manual gearbox and manual bell housing. I never really had any problems with the select o matic if you treated them right and got them serviced like I was told when I bought it new it would last. It was just worn out I quess and wouldn't change gear correctly.

@@aussiesmoko The SOS box is so rare at this stage that classic tractorfans would happily pay whatever it took to have a working example. Just look at the kind of money big Countys can make. PS hello from Ireland :)
