no joke, i said it on facebook and ill say it again. you're a bloody legend not even ford could help me with this issue, i had taken it to tyre shops with the same result. very hard to find this solution on the internet so I applaud you for helping me :)

Legend, agreed, even my workshop manual does not mention anything about steering box adjustment, I have just adjusted mine and the wobble is gone, saved me a lot of cash in the process, thanks

Cheers mate. Fixed my Ranger today. Only took about 15 minutes to do, mine only required about a 1/4 of a turn to solve the problem.

cheers mate, I bought one of these at auction for $2600 with 359000 on the clock, spent a bit of money and time sorting out the driveline and clutch but have been ignoring this issue since I got it, will get it sorted now!

My 2008 Ranger 2.5 TDCi is a little unsettled at the front so I’m going to check for play tomorrow. 👍🇬🇧I was just about to buy new shocks but you might have just saved me . 👍

Been struggling with this for years. Just recently replaced both control arms after 2600 Australian dollars still the same problem. Not to mention the numerous tyre and wheel alignments. Plus upgrade to old man emu suspension. Will try this tomorrow and give feedback.

worked well. Hardest part was loosening the bolts on the battery bracket

Same. I sliced my finger open when one finally gave and my hand went flying on the end of the wrench into a sharp edge of a bracket haha!

question , every other video i have watched on this issue , they only turn screw 1/4 turn, as it can lead to being too tight on hard lock and damage. You turned yours about 10 full turns ??,Thanks

This is one of the solutions there are many that can cause this, mine was the idler arm that was worn.

I did as the video instructed however when I re connected my battery my alarm went off and anti theft struck

Mine won't turn in any Direction I've loosen the bolt but nothing any ideas???

Physically can't believe that many services didn't know it was the steering box. It's very well known by ANYONE in the mechanic world, that float or play usually comes from the steering box. Sounds like all of them need to find a new profession. Good vid anyway mate.

"Float", "Play", or "Lash" as I like to call it. I'm going to investigate to see how much "Lash" I have in my steering right now. 😀

Mines not great - 3.0 3” exhaust , Long range tank, custom tuned , steel tray - bullbar - side steps 10-11 ltr/ 100km

2 major faults a/ steer box adjustment ,,, Screw should be only backed off less than 1/8 turn [50% of 1/4 ] 99% str boxes are adjusted same way b/ Wheel alignment can add alot of stability when done correctly RH drive Spec [60 minutes to 1 degrees ] 3mm total tow Camber LH -- neg 5--10 min // RH 0---10 minutes pos Caster LH ,, 2 deg 30min to 2 deg 45mins pos // rh 2deg -15mins -- 2deg 30min positive Result vehicle will be rock steady ,,very very planted

hi more positive caster by 1/2 degree [car will wander way way less] both sides and adjust steering box . These boxes are crap from factory and Ford will never fix under warranty .Although they are very very sloppy for a steering box . There were a few failures under warranty PkPj Bt50. My 60yo Holden has a better box than these sloppy units .
