Great video and yes took about 2 hours. None of the other similar videos show the lock pin tensioner detail. I did spend additional time sorting out the 38 mm. socket as the only size here I had was 3/4" drive. For a future job I would buy a 1/2" 38mm. socket. I was able to unbolt and wriggle the fan assy out of the engine bay (with difficulty) - This helped greatly to improve access for my 3/4" ratchet drive and also to view the pressure pump timing marks.

hi some tensioners come in 2 pieces and must be compressed and then pinned . Or if u have a pinned unit and pin comes out repin is ideal . Dealer did my t/belt and injector pump and the 2 piece tensioner was not collapsed and pinned at 70,000km. At 100k we found the tensioner bolt tight but tensioner destroyed from incorrect install ,,OH YEA the belt was way way loose . DOH effects 2.5 and 3.0ltr versions

Thanks for the video. I am going to have my timing belt replaced this week on my Ranger PJ Diesel Auto. It looks like it is do-able for the home mechanic. But what your video shows is that this is not a huge job, and when dealing with mechanics it gives an idea on how much labour is involved. Looking at your video I would expect to pay no more than 2 hours labour. What are your thoughts?

Hi, amazing video, thank you very much!!! Just a couple of questions if you don't mind since it will be my first time doing the timing belt on a diesel engine.... is it actually so easy to manually rotate it? In the gasoline engines it becomes easier once you pull the spark plugs out... And also is it really necessary to have such a short 38mm socket or is it doable with a "normal" one? Thanks a lot!!!!

As it’s just a “top half” belt as long as everything stays inline there’s no need to check it at the crank

@@diydaly There is ALWAYS a need to check the timing lines up properly. You are working on the assumption the timing isn’t already a tooth out. Very unprofessional indeed !!

@Jake Gulliver hi Jake , P0340 is the camshaft sensor , if the sensor is ok the first thing I’d do Is remove the cover and see if you can get the Cambelt timing marks to align .. the crank shaft timing is set through marks on the gear wheels where they mesh
