Great video and yes took about 2 hours. None of the other similar videos show the lock pin tensioner detail. I did spend additional time sorting out the 38 mm. socket as the only size here I had was 3/4" drive. For a future job I would buy a 1/2" 38mm. socket. I was able to unbolt and wriggle the fan assy out of the engine bay (with difficulty) - This helped greatly to improve access for my 3/4" ratchet drive and also to view the pressure pump timing marks.

What about keeping the hydraulic sub assembly hard against the tensioner pulley? What's the procedure if both become separated before install? Eg no rubber sleeve on the bolt from factory to help the two stay together?
Straight forward 👌

hi some tensioners come in 2 pieces and must be compressed and then pinned . Or if u have a pinned unit and pin comes out repin is ideal . Dealer did my t/belt and injector pump and the 2 piece tensioner was not collapsed and pinned at 70,000km. At 100k we found the tensioner bolt tight but tensioner destroyed from incorrect install ,,OH YEA the belt was way way loose . DOH effects 2.5 and 3.0ltr versions

Thanks for the video. I am going to have my timing belt replaced this week on my Ranger PJ Diesel Auto. It looks like it is do-able for the home mechanic. But what your video shows is that this is not a huge job, and when dealing with mechanics it gives an idea on how much labour is involved. Looking at your video I would expect to pay no more than 2 hours labour. What are your thoughts?

Hello mate, is Sohc WLT an interference engine? Timing belt snapped
Hi, amazing video, thank you very much!!! Just a couple of questions if you don't mind since it will be my first time doing the timing belt on a diesel engine.... is it actually so easy to manually rotate it? In the gasoline engines it becomes easier once you pull the spark plugs out... And also is it really necessary to have such a short 38mm socket or is it doable with a "normal" one? Thanks a lot!!!!

Hi, great video. I’m about to change the cam belt on a BT50. The tensioner has failed so the belt spins on the bottom pulley. Is that catastrophic on these engine and could I have bent valves? Or as you mentioned broken cam shafts? Cheers.

Hi changed my belt yesterday but I came across two white lines painted on the bottom pulley and a white line painted on the back of the cover but now it’s got loud tapping and it’s down on power I set it up how you showed in the video someone else has been in there before so I’ve no idea how they set it up

so did you have to move any of your pulleys once the belt was off? depends they may have just simply paint marked it In an location and just swopped the belt at that point
Thanks great video, what happens when the timing belt snaps while driving?

As long as you line all them pulleys up mate you wont have any bother... if your timing was out (from belt issue of valve failure etc) then you would need to set it all up but if you are just replacing the belt id just mark them all 👌

Not the best to be honest
My tensioner broke the other day. Replaced the tensioner and damged belt. Engine just does not want to start. Is there a way to check where the crank position is to make sure of the timing? Or do you think i should check the valves? I hear a hard deep knock when i try to start and the return pipe on one injector seems wet from diesel
@diydaly
2 жыл бұрын
When you say the tension broke, I presume it collapsed and the belt came off? Or atleast damage led everything enough to put the timing completely out?
@plantnerdsa

@@diydaly yeah. Everything was out. So need to check the timing. Did align properly again. And it feels like i have compression when i turn the motor over

Yeah it’s ok to refit the old tensioner 👌👍
How’s it, just a question... If the tensioner pin on the new tensioner happens to come out for some reason, are you able to put it back in and fit it? Or would you have to buy a whole new tensioner? Cheers

@diydaly

@@horimaikuku1556 bit hard to describe it in writing but basically it’s just sprung loaded so you need to find a way of holding the back while loading the tension on to refit the pin , you mind be-able to bolt it up finger tight the do it with an Allen key
@horimaikuku1556
2 жыл бұрын
Sorry what I was meant to say was... that the hydraulic actuator has become seperate from the tensioner pulley... and the piston of the actuator has completely exited the hydraulic chamber... I don’t know where the piston is
@diydaly
2 жыл бұрын
@@horimaikuku1556 arr right , you will definetly need a new tensioner then if that’s the case I’m afraid
Never ever have tensioner fall apart into 2 pieces ,, IT HAS TO BE THROWN AWAY . *** If the tensioner over extends there is an air bleed procedure . *** ALWAYS INSTALL TENSIONER FIRST //// SECOND CAM BELT ///THIRD,,, IDLER PULLEY /// 4TH ,,,REMOVE PIN FROM NEW TENSIONER
Will it be exactly the same for the 3.0L engine?
