I owned a mk2 Orion 1.6Diesel as well.. tought mine had a straight exhaust pipe (not downwards) ... its a hideous (in my opinion) steering wheel but the rest of the car was quite good.. and the engine was lovelly.. only 54hp but somehow it was happy to rev (for a diesel) and went all the way up to 5000rpm.. it could cruise in 5th gear at 140km/h .. could reach 180km/h downhill (indicated) and when uphill speed began to fall down downshifting to 4th gear actually worked.. and it was astonishing economic for a family car.. once did a 1000km trip at 130km/h in motorways plus some city and it averaged 5.5L/100.. the only problem of that car was not having Air con..but everything else worked fine..it was utterly reliable.. really miss it.

@@WymiataczPlays 6.5-7 is also what my mk2 Golf GTI or Skoda Fabia 1.6i average (usually closer to 7 than 6.5).. but the road trip was at highish cruise speeds and after driving a bit throught the busy capital.. i dont know.. the next diesel we had averaged 6L just driving economically on the motorway

I learnt to drive in 93 Orion 1.8 diesel... My grandpa had one... I can still remember the smell of the exhaust... Memories...

just the way any good healthy diesel should start even in a good frost, first heat, first crank & no long winding on, never good when people say have to heat them 2 & 3 times, if this case need new glow plugs, if that dont do it clearly compressions cant be as good as should & never good to need long cranking/winding on trying to get going

Hello, I have a Ford Escort MK4 1.6D. When i buy it 6 years ago (29 000km for Real, it was at an old man (92 years) that just use it to go shopping on the city during 30 years!! Since, I am the second hand, it has never start well when cold. I put New sparkplugs and no change. I was thinking that the pump was not so good, , I decided to took her on a "dieseliste" in France (don't know the word exactly in english, sorry!) But same problem. The year before, it sometimes stop for no reason (New filtrer on Since some kilometers, not a used one.) The problème was the support of gasoil filter that look good but was absorbing air Somewhere. I decided to change the pump on thé top but non success. Si, I removed thé entière support and filter to replace it with it's diesel hose, install a New Universal diesel filter (from an orher car with a molded inlet and outlet with a primaire bulb and a no-return valve. It is better but not perfect. When it's hot, non problem it starts directly! I have read Somewhere that this a problem on this motor. Really love m'y MK4D! Now, 78 000km but someone crash it on my back with his car some weeks ago. It will be repaire in some days because of it's good général conditions. If I had to buy an other car for some reason, will take the same in 1600D TOO!! Really hard to find here. SORRY for the long story but just want to explain to you. Have a really good day!

This must be an engine swap.. look at rev counter. No way a dagenham diesel couod redline at 6-7k rpm ;) I got my license on a Ford Fiesta XR2 swapped with a 1.6 dagenham diesel..

+Paweł Młocek Oryginalnie była tam benzyna, i ktoś włożył diesla. Już taki kupiłem. Kontrolka świec działa, a obrotomierz niestety nie. Żałuje, bo sam nie wiem jak go ożywić.

Nie dasz rady. Musisz kupić zdasz z diesla. Diesel bierze sygnał z - a benzyna z + jedyna opcja to zegar z Oriona z dieslem, bywały z obrotomierzem. Ja właśnie wsadzam 1.8td z mondeo, zamiast 1.3.

+Emmett Brown Jak na razie nie wiem, bo na razie łatam nadwozie :) Z tego co gadałem z herbaciażami to po delikatnym kręceniu pompy wtryskowej jedzie równo z RST, a zdecydowanie lepiej niż XR3i-które też mam tylko w kabrio :)
