Ford Mustang Mach-E Review: Interior, Price, Range & 0-60mph Test | Top Gear Tested
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It took Ford 50 years to officially bring the Mustang over to the UK, and now we're supposed to believe the Mustang can be an electric family crossover?
The Mustang Mach-E is Ford’s first fully-fledged electric car - saying that you won’t find a Ford badge on it anywhere. The Mach-E instead riffs off Ford's rich pony car heritage, giving this Tesla Model Y and VW ID.4 rival a bit of a "Land of the Free' USP.
Is it all just a clever bit of badge engineering, or is the Mach-E a genuine Tesla rival? Time for Top Gear Magazine's Serious Car Tester, Ollie Kew, to do some very serious car testing...

He’s wrong about the front and rear doors and potentially slamming your hand. Once you hit the unlock button you actually can’t close the door, there’s a mechanical mechanism that prevent the person from slamming their hand. Once the door is opened then the mechanism unlocks. There’s no way your slamming your hand against the door. For top gear they just gotta do more research
I just drove one of these on a road trip . . . . drove it ~2,600 miles in two weeks and between home and my destination was 900 - 1,000 miles (so there were two long legs to that drive). It was fantastic! I found it to be comfortable, and so great to drive on the road trip, I never got bored. Hell, I only used Blue Cruise when I was eating. I have this exact trim (MME 4X), and it's easily the best daily driver I've ever owned. The interior is waaaay better (for my money) than the Model 3 and Y, and it's been beating the Model Y in highway range tests (even if not by much). All-in-all, it's a great car that I can haul my family around in whilst also having a good time. Hell, I'd even call it nimble for it's weight/size.

How many miles per day and did charging cut into what you would normally have driven?
@QMaverick1
Жыл бұрын
@@rich7447 not really. I have a 5 and 3 year old, and they were the main reason we stopped halfway there and halfway back. Other families were driving ICE vehicles, and we were only like 15 min behind them (and one of that group left earlier than we did). They too have kids, and stopped more as a result. Point is, it mostly just felt like a regular road trip in a really nice car. Just needed a little extra planning up front (though, not much).
@rich7447

@@QMaverick1 Good to know. I'm normally in the 800 to 1,100 miles a day on a road trip but I don't have very young kids. On really long drives we take the RV which has onboard kitchen and bathroom facilities, so no real need to stop (enough fuel for 1,500 miles). Wasn't sure how good this would be as a mid-ranger.

Just like I expected we get the typical American car derision and then halfheartedly admit that it’s a decent car. It took the old Top Gear many years to get past that typical diatribe.
It took 50 years for the Mustang to come to the UK, coincidentally the same time period between the first reviews of the Mach-E and this one.
The reviewer has such a strong bias against American cars that the whole review has become too compromised with old jokes and outdated stereotypes, condescension and nitpicking. I have driven the Mach E on a road trip in Honolulu and it's the car I was most impressed with after using over 2 dozen vehicles driving across America.

Yep I agree , nothing wrong with American cars, especially the dodge challenger, and the Camaro, and Mustang bullet 👌
@shogun2215

The problem with American cars here in the UK is that they don't have the luxury of being extremely cheap. They are slapped with ENORMOUS tax hikes here, putting what is usually a really affordable car into the same territory as luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche. So the reviews end up coming from two different points of view.

@@shogun2215 Exactly. It's a value thing. In America, these are okay-ish value. It's a better way to go than a Tesla, likely. Theyre pretty great first big efforts at the technology in a mass market price range in the states.
The only con I have with this car is the name. “Mach-E” alone was already a great name for this car.
@Games_and_Music

I agree, they should've used the Mustang name on a more sleeker sedan, or a powered up/electrified version of one of their last Mustang lines. I don't get what's keeping Ford from doing just that. Or an electric Fiesta hatchback citycar. Are they this strapped for cash?
@omwnoobs1513

I feel like they didn’t want the Mach-e to turn into a cmax, so they used Mustang logo. I’m not a car guy, so it doesn’t bother me, and just from looks I think this is one the better looking all electric crossovers. I’m not sure how much that would have changed if it had a blue oval on the hood, but I think the pony helps.
It seems more like he saw the car and went: how can I show my bias against an electric Mustang as obvious as possible?

They must not be really good at reviewing cars. The rear doors have a feature where if you open up the door it's going to erect a sort of a kickstand to prevent that exact thing that he mentioned from happening. So if the door opens up and the kid accidentally leans against it or it's too windy, the door will not close on their fingers. They must have not noticed it. British people smh mate lol
@Arguing101

His point is that a kid might do that on other cars that don't have these features lol
well ,,,,, i have a 2013 Boss 302 and just picked up a Mach E all wheel drive with the big battery. and I just LOVE it yes its not the same as my 302 but this electric pony is fast !!! its more a suv .
Reviewing an American car without using overused stereotypes every 5 seconds (impossible challenge)
It’s “only” 100 Liters…referring to the frunk…well it’s 100 litres more that you get in a VW, Mercedes and BMW 🤔
Gotta agree, the rear handle was designed by dangerous idiots.

Once you open the doors with the button, there is a safety mechanisms so you can not squeeze your fingers.
The reviewer spent almost as much time talking about how 'American' this car is vs. the actual characteristics of the car itself. I think after the 3rd mention the audience gets it. The Top Gear Magazine crew usually do pretty good consumer level reviews but this one is a bit cringe to sit through.

The video is fine, it is the car that is stupid. Clearly the marketing department had more to say than the engineers, causing to car to have weird compromises due to the futile attempt to make it look like a Mustang.
It's a good review but we gotta work on the joke delivery because some of them feel quite forced like you've said the same joke twice but with different words but still a good informational video nonetheless
The noise the Mach-E makes on the move sounds like the opening of THX.
Surprised it was that slow in the 0-60 I got 5.4 in my select AWD and 5.6 in my RWD.
I think they should feature this segment in the TV program, cause it's very good!
I bought one of these about six months ago. Love it. Was curious how Top Gear ranked it. At least you didn't say it is the worst car in the world like you did the Lexus SC430 with the beautiful 3UZ engine.
It’s dark at the back… but has a glass roof 0_o
Hearing his anti-american dad jokes can be very exhausting.
Although its not a patch on the classic. I do enjoy the idea of the Mustang legacy living on in the electic era! I would defo love to review one on my channel one day!

Love the colour of this car looks amazing, I be happy to have the rwd one with extended range battery for more range , stunning car but needs white or cream interior an it be perfect , big thumbs up from me 👍👌🏴
I think all essential controls should be tactile. It's bad to rely so much on touchscreens. We're in the middle of the computerization of cars and a lot of this stuff is gimmicky, like an EV needs to convince you that it's futuristic. The technology is still expensive to manufacture, and it's like the wild west of car interior design. Some manufacturers are adamant on tactile buttons combined with a minimalistic screen that isn't obtrusive. I applaud them for that. I think time will show the iPad cars are going to age poorly. I think they're distracting at times. Sometimes it's better to just have a switch. Cars are starting to change. I personally think the reality is hybrids will be necessary and probably more common than full EVs. Unless some major change is made to battery technology.
@Chironex_Fleckeri
Жыл бұрын
That said, I like what Ford has done with this. They will be competitive very quickly if they learn just a few lessons and adapt a bit, drop the price by 25% and still be profitable - or just get better interiors and give their EVs a distinct feel. Hopefully these will prove to be reliable. I think Ford has made some excellent cars for decades. They always seem to have something going for them.
Good car, that guys sense of humor is awful
The stale American Vs European narrative and the jokes that don't land waters down this review. A glaring bias makes the review and Top Gear feel more like a joke...Please let Chris Harris run this show! and for the record, in any country, even in RHD European countries, the car is a great car!

Supersatisfied with my Mach E in the electric car country Norway Testdrove about 10-15 cars from Audi,WV ,Skoda several Chinese cars and Tesla but liked the Mustang best of all of them . Not the cheapest but the one i liked best . 2022 Mach E AWD ,LR
Only a year after everyone else...

Weird to hear it called Untamed mode, where in the US it's Unbridled mode. Not that either word sounds particularly good
I like the style of this car
It's all good if it doesn't understeer and can do powerslides. One of those pls instead of any silly sports car. 👍
The electric mustang would have been better as a budget taycan rival not an suv
I still think they should've just called it the "Mach-e" and made a separate, all-electric, real Mustang. No one is making an electric sports car that anyone can afford.
