hate the power shift box your right what you say about the correct oil if you use the wrong typeit makes the plastic spacers disintergrate in the clutch pack making the car judder and the plastic magnet holders on the selecor forks to brake away and the car dosnt know what gear it is in. what i would sugest and i know its expensive but get a box service kit from ford they come with the back seal for the oil filter housing that is bolted to the side of the box and replacement bolts and gaskets for the mechatronic unit so you can clean the swarf from the selector magnets runs like a dream after. the reason for going through the gears befor hand is it puts the box in service mode opening all the solenoidsalowing the oil to compleatly drain. you do the same after as it will purge the air from the system and take it out off service mode. its the same prosses when changing the clutch pack

Local Ford Stealers will charge anything from £250 -£400 for the service, I pay £250 obviously but will probably do it myself now after seeing the video! Ford recommend servicing the powershift every 37,500 miles or three years. My car is coming up for 110,000 miles. You know when the oil needs changing as the clutches start to slip to the point where every change is an issue and in gear acceleration is met with major slippage, change the oil and the car is beautiful and smooth again, I love it and have no complaints, I also tow with it and again it’s fantastic. I would definitely have another. Thanks for the video 👍

Certain I don't have any leaks so must just be wear and tear. Have owned the vehicle since 119,000 and now on 142,000 with no evidence it's (outbox oil and filter) never been changed. Just ordered the same kit that's in the video for £112. Just a case of trying to figure out how to get the car jacked up and level to carry out the drain and re-fill.

Just towed large caravan round Spain and Portugal, 3,000 miles with only one problem. 2 hours continuous driving including lot of hills at approx 55 mph, then turn off and immediately a 1 in 16 ramp up to campsite. car stopped and warning message "transmission overheating". waited a minute or so and proceeded slowly up the hill. No other problems but smell of hot oil that lingers, hence need to change oil. car has 95,000 miles on clock and don`t think oil has ever been changed. Good car, good gearbox. Hey Alan a very good vid again! Thank you ! Can you tell us a bit more about why the 2litre Diesel TDCi engine that is used on the Focus MK3 and Mondeo MK5 has DPF issues and is deleting and removing the DPF the right choise? Is it the style of driving, short runs , fuel qallity or else and how do you deal with this issue. I have the 1.6 TDCi Focus MK3 and never got anny issue but want to get the 2ltr 163 bhp one as next vehicle...... Cheers !

I also have a 2.0 TDCI Mondeo Estate with the powershift gearbox. I do my own oil changes and I'm also disabled. (hence the auto box)... I love the Powershift transmission... Plus I love the Ford Mondeo Estate. I just don't know how I'm going to cope with an Electric car when the time comes. They are not big enough like the Mondeo Estate. Plus You CAN NOT Tow a Trailer with an Electric shoebox. So I will be servicing and keeping my Mondeos on the road with the 6 speed Powershift Gearbox until the Government come and drag my beloved Ford from my cold dead hands after 2030. Long Live the Ford Mondeo.

I remember the first time I saw a Figaro and I was struck at what a great little car it looked. Nissan certainly boobed by not selling it over here. As for electric cars, I was watching Trucking Hell on Freeview the other night and a brand new electric/hybrid/whatever Audi caught fir on the back of a car transporter. When they got it back to the yard the recovery company had to submerge it in a skip full of water for a week because the batteries have a habit of going unstable and may explode!

Great video as always.. Just an addition to this MK4 facelift, the first version, from 2007-2008 they had 2 types of automatic transmission. Guys this box is the 6DCT450, from Getrag in collaboration with Ford at that time. But there is another one from AISIN W. (AWF21) with classic torque converter which has no exterior filter to change, and requires ATF red oil (WSS-M2C924-A)... for those who are still driving an old Mondeo, like me :))).

@@ln5747 well as you saw in Alan video, this gearbox has an external oil filter, and the classic torque converter has only magnets on the inside of the cover. I did not open it to confirm location etc.... If you remove the air filter you will see that there is a stamp with the gearbox specifications, but its possible not to be visible anymore... Jadder at 1st to 2nd gear is a common behaviour with PS boxes. Check how old is your battery. If battery cant hold the voltage the gearbox will jadder between 1-2. Please dont ask me why. This is the cheapest you can check before you start spending money on crazy expensive components.

Then another $250AD for oil the only reason I’ve heard that the powershift trans has a bad name is due to the sane use of name used in there dry clutch version behind the petrol variant the wet clutch one you serviced are so reliable and used in so many applications/manufacturers. Typical bloody Ford trying to claim something that’s not theirs and then stuffing their version of it up.

Nice and very informative video. I have a 2013 Grand C-Max 2,0 TDCI and I assume it is the same engine / gearbox as in the Mondeo, hence the same procedure?. I actually thought the oil- / filter-change on the PowerShift gearbox would be more difficult. In addition: There is a lot of confusion and debate in Ford-internet-forums concerning if the PowerShift-gearbox needs to be flushed or not. Ford does not do it (I guess ETIS does not recommend it), and some people even claim that a "flush" can do more harm than good to the gearbox. Is a "flush" recommended??

Change regularly for automatic/dsg/dct every 40k-50k. If ur oil is very dirty then do it Earlier the better if $$ is not an issue. And u will enjoy a long lasting trouble free gearbox n engine. For me flushing is a no no! My 6 speed automatic keeping running strong after 270k km. Just normal oil change 1-2 time per year will make them happy.

It should be revised version from 2017 and later. First versions of PowerShift 6dct450 have plastic guides on springs inside flywheel. Once plastic becomes brittle, it goes in flakes and mechatronic unit is fucked up. Not cheap to repair PS: 2017 gasoline Mondeo doesn't have PowerShift Getrag, it has classic torque converter, which is better. Diesels still have DSG style Getrag, but shouldn't have the same issues as first revision, since flywheel is outside of gearbox, so plastic can't contaminate gearbox oil
