Hello Everyone,
Today's Video will go over how to make your own Tie Down Bed Rails for your Ford Maverick Flex Bed. Ford put together a video of their own, but they're a bit off on the correct supplies, so I figured I'd take a swing at it.
Once you have all the supplies installation is quick and simple. The hardest part is finding the parts. I had to visit several hardware stores to find them all. Not ideal, but I only had to order one thing from the internet.
Here's the correct supply list for the build.
2 - 12 Gauge Slotted Strut rails
4 - 3/8 x 1 1/4" Washers
4 - 5/16 x 1 1/4" Washers
4 - 3/8" Strut Cone Nuts
4 - 3/8" Threaded Eye Bolts
4 - M8 x 1.25 x 25mm Hex Head Screws
4 - 12 Gauge Blue Strut Endcaps
I hope this help you with your own build. Having the correct materials before starting will make this project a breeze.
Thanks for Watching!

Thank you for this guide! I was able to follow it and install it on my Mav 👍
Good job. The strut channel and cone nuts sold in stores are thinly plated with zinc. A few uses scrape the coating off, allowing rust. You can find stainless or aluminum strut/nut options sold by electrical suppliers who cater to industrial customers.

Nice one! What are some applications for rails like this besides tying stuff down? Well played!

Mostly for tying down stuff, but I also made a flag pole that is secured from the rail using a pipe clamp so I can fly a flag during a holiday or tailgate.
Can anyone help with where to get the screws to mount the rails? I’ve bought 2 different kinds and one was too small and the other too big.
Dang, looking to do this on my '24 XLT and the plastic bed liner is not pre-drilled. So I get to remove the whole thing, find the holes (assuming they even exist on the '24), then drill my liner.
Where did you get the eye bolts at? I can only find 4” ones in stores.

I got mine off Amazon, but a marine /boating store should have better options than the regular hardware store locally. QWORK 3/8"-16 UNC Stainless Steel 316 Eye Bolt, 4 Pack 3/8" x 1-1/4" Marine Grade Machinery Shoulder Eyebolts www.amazon.com/dp/B08GQVTGWC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_KRZQPRERMAAPA86Z96PC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
What length with eye bolts?
I can’t get one of my 8mm bolts to screw into one of the pre-drilled holes in the truck bed. What else can I do?

I'd double check the treads on your bolt. Make sure they're all in good condition with no flattening or burrs. If those are ok, it's probably the threads on the welded nut integrated with the bed. You'd have to replace it, rethread/tap it, or drill your own replacement hole.
Hi Vlad, great video ! Question: Any particular reason why you are using a "Channel A" type of strut ? I am thinking of using a Channel B type of strut for this project (the channel is not as deep). And, in my local big-box store, the Channel B strut that they sell is 14 gauge instead of 12 gauge and it's not as heavy. I prefer to use a lighter-weight strut. Is there any downside to using a lighter-weight strut (14 gauge channel B type strut) ? Also, would the 3/8" strut cone nut that you recommend here, would that work for the Channel B strut as well ? It seems that most of the 3/8" strut cone nuts that I can find are designated as for use with Channel A, C, D, E ... everything but B ?? Are Channel B struts designed such that strut cone nuts cannot be used in their tracks ? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have !

I was originally going to use the type B strut. However my local stores had the precut channel A and not B. I was also having trouble finding the caps for the end for the B channel. The only concern you may have is the depth. While the cones nuts may fit for both channel A and B types, they could run into your fastening bolts to the bed with the B type due to their shallower depth. If the strut, cone nuts and fastening bolts can be found in your local hardware store you could give it a quick test while in the store.

@@VladministratorGaming Thank you so much for the reply, Vlad ! You are kind. I have another issue with this project ... that "gotcha" that you had mentioned, where you said Ford gave wrong info about the buts needed for those holes ? ... So, I got that it needs to be M8 instead of M6. But, how about the thread ? Does it need to be M8 125 or M8 100 ? I am running into snag in that .. I am pretty sure those holes are already threaded (no need to tap), but ... I cannot fit the M8 125 bolts into them (???) M8 is correct size for sure ... but .. do I have the wrong thread ? i.e. It needs to be M8 100 instead of M8 125 ? I thought of this because ... in your other video where you put in the back-hook, you had used a M6 100 tap, to tap the holes, to fit M6 100 bolts in them. So, maybe these M8 pre-drilled (and pre-tap) holes that Ford has done (for this Rail project) ... could it be that they are 100 thread instead of 125 thread ? Is that where I've gone wrong ? (I got M8 125 bolts, and maybe I should've gone with M8 100 bolts ?) ... Really appreciate your help 🙂

@@VladministratorGaming Yeah, that is what I have already ... M8 1.25 x 25mm bolts. But, I cannot screw them in (to the holes on side of the bed). You did not need to tap them, did you ? (When I look carefully into each of those holes, it looks like they are already threaded, so I don't think they need tap'ping ... but the M8 1.25 x 25mm bolts that I have, can NOT thread thru ... Can't figure out what am I doing wrong ... I look thru the comments posted on your video here ... and looks like there was 1 other person who had the same issue ?

Or ... maybe ... is there any harm in Tap'ping those holes again with a M8 1.25 Tap ? (even if it already has threads in them) ... Your thoughts ?
What are the actual lengths of the bolts etc? I see you posted the bolt type and thread type, but no lengths. Like for the m8 bolts, how long should they be? The eyelets, what the shank length and total length? Thanks.

I found this one on Amazon. Is this the correct rail? 1.625" x 1.625", 24 inches, 12 ga, Galvanized Steel, Half Slotted Strut Channel
@VladministratorGaming

Those dimensions match the ones I used.
why did you use the short rails? there is room for 36 inch?
@VladministratorGaming
2 жыл бұрын
You could go with 36", but be ready to cut the rail yourself to length. The bed has tie downs in all 4 corners already. For me there's no need for longer rails as you have tie points on the outer edges already. When Ford did this, they went with 30" rails. The bed is only 54" to begin with, so I'm quite happy with the 24" length.
Is there a reason you only made the rails that long? Just a matter of securement?
@VladministratorGaming
2 жыл бұрын
The bed itself is pretty short, 54 inches, and already has tie downs in the front and rear corners along with several in the bed floor. So two feet in the middle for the extra tie downs the rails provide is more than sufficient.

Agree, I removed the front tie downs to get full length rails to install bed cover, bed rack, and whatever else you want to mount on side walls of bed, more tie downs are lowest priority for me.
Was it A or B channel struts?

Still put the wrong washers for first one
so the M8 x 1.25 hex head would be 30mm, right? M8 x 1.25 x 30mm? that's the part that you left out and that's what people are asking in the comments, its not in your description. Because this is what the guy at the hardware store asked me, he said 25? or 30?

I got the rail from the Home Depot. Had to check online to see which one locally had the 24" so I didn't have to wait for it to ship. Got the endcaps from Lowe's, because they were the only local place that had the caps in stock. The two rails and endcaps were about 30 bucks total.

The rails I used are galvanized, so you would have to do some prep work to get most sprays to actually adhere. These have been installed for over a year now with no issues of corrosion.
