.............................................................
This is the all-new Ford Kuga!
Ford has completely redesigned their mid-size SUV, and they've got competitors like the Peugeot 3008 & Volkswagen Tiguan in their sights! The question is, does it offer enough to stand out from the crowd?
Starting with the exterior design, it clearly looks very similar to a pumped-up Ford Focus - but that's no bad thing! Not only that, but it comes with a slightly-sloped roofline and real exhaust pipes as well!
When it comes to engine choices, there are more than enough options available. The petrol range is topped with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol to deliver 150hp, while the diesel range is led with a 2-litre turbo which can put down 190hp! However, the hybrid model trumps them all... With a 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor, it can deliver 225hp and travel up to 35 miles on just electric power alone!
So it looks good, has got a great range of engines, and with a starting price of just over £24,000, it's affordable as well! So surely it's the must-have family SUV of 2021, right? You'll have to keep watching to find out!

    The Ford Kuga (at least for my country's car market) is by far the best value for money choice you could get for a mid sized SUV. Within 35k Euros you can have the 2.0 Diesel with 190 HP, decent acceleration and almost perfect steering around corners with little to no rolling effect. Also it has every single specification you could get on a mid ranged, nonpremium car, while still paying this (relatively small) amount of money and receiving up to 7 years of warranty. A Skoda Karoq (which is the correct competitor of the Kuga) with the same specs would be around 42k Euros, while less fun to drive and with only 4 years of warranty. The same goes for Seat Ateca, albeit it is similar fun to drive. And last but not least, the VW Tiguan would cost you a small fortune of at least 50k Euros to reach the same level of specs, which ain't worth it. If you are able to spend 50 to 55k Euro on a Tiguan, you should just go for a mid specs Q5 which offers a completely different feeling than an overpriced VW. The asians are doing pretty fine as competitiors, but their cars are a little bit more expensive for the same specs and the in-built quality could be questionable, besides Mazda CX-5 which shares some common ground with the Kuga anyway, but has better interior quality even for the rear seats (at a higher price tag).

    Idk why he is talking about the Kodiaq as if it where Kuga's competition. The direct segment competitor is in fact the Karoq. Perhaps British people are not able to buy that model, but you can't compare the almost 5 m long Kodiaq to a 4.6 m Kuga and expect them to be evenly matched in cargo volume. Also, the Kodiaq is a much more expensive car, starting from 40k Euros with a decent package of car specs, while the Kuga is available with every spec available for this class, with 35-36k Euros. The same specs would push the Kodiaq to nearly 50k.

    I've had problems with the 12V starter battery going flat, which means the car has a total power failure - no way of opening the door unless you use the emergency access key in the fob but then, of course you can't start the car so you need a jump start, which means opening the bonnet which is not easy bearing in mind that the passenger door can't be opened to release the bonnet, as the passenger door needs to be fully open; the bonnet can be released by fiddling around with the lever whilst lying across the front seats and groping around in the footwell. The bonnet release mechanism needs to be positioned or redesigned so that it can be operated in the event of a power failure, or else put manual locks on both front doors to allow them to be opened in the event of a power failure.

    I think this video was made some while ago, possibly because of the PHEV fire problem with the defective battery packs fitted. Some details were missed in the range like the 2.5 hybrid engine only, Self-parking options and Ford pass app to name a few. Possibly, 2 separate videos would have been more informative. The Petrol/Diesel and the MHEV/Hybrid/PHEV vehicles in the range.

    Just Purchased the ST-Line in Oz. Slightly differently spec’d to the model you tested. Particularly the engine, ours has 2.0L Turbo with 250hp and 390nm, so it’s quite feisty and would give a few hot hatches a decent run between the lights I reckon.

  • @sjb2471

    @sjb2471

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@CarMasteronly years ago, pretty average, noting that Ford Australia has a very different history to Ford in Europe. But these days - other than the Getrag dry clutch dual clutch transmission debacle - the reliability of the cars is considered (by anecdotal reputation, not facts) as middle of the road - not as good as Japan’s best, but way better than say VW. As a company Ford Australia used to have very poor customer service, especially where warranty issues were concerned, however they responded very positively to punitive intervention by Australia’s regulators a few years ago, and now offer a very high level of customer service generally. Ford’s biggest problem in Australia is that they are considered the company that sells only Rangers these days, as the Australian market is absolutely obsessed with light truck utilities

  • @sjb2471

    @sjb2471

    3 жыл бұрын

    That’s because this is the ST-Line X, which we don’t get. Ford Australia needed to bring it in at a very sharp price point to gain any interest against the established players in this scheme, so they didn’t specify things like the upgraded leather and Alcantara seats, electric seat adjustment, sunroof, etc on this model. It’s a pity, but it really is exceptionally cheap here - this level of engine spec were it available would be around AUD70k in the UK, were it available, and not much less on the Continent where Ford is considered to be in the same league as VW is here, so people don’t understand what an absolute bargain this car is here!

    I recently test drove the PHEV and I wasn't hugely impressed: it felt really heavy and the gearbox sounded like it was forgetting to change gear. It seemed to hold onto high revs for too long. The brakes were inconsistent too. One minute they were sharp and responsive, but the next time they felt like there was excess travel. That said, the 1.5 petrol manual 150bhp seemed to have none of those issues. Maybe it's just the hybrid?

    Bought new Kuga. After 30,000 kilometers, the differential broke. Given that the vehicle was under warranty, it was completely replaced. No one has an answer as to how this could have happened considering that it was an automatic, that it did not suck from the asphalt, that it was not hit and that there was enough oil. Allegedly, the price of the replaced part is EUR 9,000, and the question arises as to what would happen if the vehicle was not under warranty.
